Joe Biden got the backing of Kamala Harris in a crucial fight for Michigan. |
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) managed to take down Joe Biden in the first debate. She addressed his record as a senator in the 1970s and 1980s. It proved to be harmful to him. He immediately lost his frontrunner status and propelled her to the top-tier standings. But when it came to the second debate, she tangled with Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) who managed to outmaneuver her on her record as California state prosecutor.
Since the debate, Harris struggled to gain momentum.
She would eventually drop out the race. It hurt me. I was hoping for either the California senator or the former Texas Representative to be the Democratic nominee. I had early backed them. I backed Michael Bloomberg before he dropped out.
Now I'm going to help Joe Biden win this.
Harris and Beto O'Rourke were the only candidates capable of beating Donald J. Trump. She and O'Rourke were in a crowded field of also-rans, never will bes and not the right time yets.
While campaigning in St. Louis, Missouri, Biden leaked the news that he's got Kamala's support.
"To all of Amy (Klobuchars)'s folks, to all of Pete (Buttigieg)'s folks, to all of Kamala (Harris)'s folks, to all of the folks who have, Beto (O'Rourke)'s folks, I'll tell you what? What a gigantic difference it's made," said Biden. "We're gonna unite this party and unite this country."
It's true, the California senator endorsed Biden over Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Kamala — You’ve spent your whole career fighting for folks who’ve been written off and left behind — and no small part of that alongside Beau. From our family: thank you.https://t.co/ePtRKVjzXB— Joe Biden (Text Join to 30330) (@JoeBiden) March 8, 2020
This is a big endorsement and a sign that the Democrats are unifying around Biden over Sanders.
Harris is a progressive fighter. She is a woman of color who has a lot of impact in the race.
Harris staid out of the California primary race. She didn't want to endorse a candidate while they were campaigning. Once the California primary was over, she came out in favor of Biden.
"There is no one better prepared than Joe to steer our nation through these turbulent times, and restore truth, honor, and decency to the Oval Office," she said in a statement. "He is kind and endlessly caring, and he truly listens to the American people."
Harris was critical of Biden on the campaign trail. Her criticism during the debate in June of Biden's record on racial segregation, including his remarks about working with two segregationist senators during his time in the senate became a defining moment of the night.
"I do not believe you are a racist. And I agree with you when you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground," Harris said. "But it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and careers on the segregation of race in this country."
She said that she will hold Biden to account and assure that her support will be useful. She also aimed at Donald J. Trump, the idiot who currently occupying the White House.
"We deserve a president with the knowledge and experience to reassure a nation weary of tweets, lies and incompetence," said Harris. "And we deserve a president who speaks to the best of who we are and challenges us to live up to our ideals."
"I believe in Joe Biden," she added. "and will do everything in my power to help elect him the next president of the United States."
Harris will join Biden in Michigan. She will campaign with Biden in Ann Arbor, Detroit and Saginaw on Monday. Biden will campaign in Flint, Grand Rapids and Marquette before the primary.
This is the latest U.S. Senator to endorse Biden over Sanders.
This comes at a crucial time for both Biden and Sanders. The Michigan primary could be a deciding factor in this race for the nomination. The nomination has turned ugly.
Sanders only has the backing of U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT). He has at least seven U.S. Representatives backing his campaign. The most notable ones were Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA).
Michael Bloomberg has endorsed Biden for president. He will begin taking on Trump on the sidelines and call upon Biden to address Trump's family, Fox News and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
Biden is facing an onslaught of misinformation and attacks. Trump, Sanders, their allies and Russia are trying to bruise his campaign. The talk about his age, health, his fitness and his behavior on the campaign trail will be used against him. The troll farm has been building a momentum of anti-Biden bullshit.
The reasons to why it's difficult to support Sanders, his supporters and media allies. They are insufferable assholes. They are just as bad as Trump and his supporters.
Trump is extremely polarizing and it's going to divide our country if he wins reelection.
