Dr. Scott William Atlas is out. The controversial doctor was forced out.

He was a member of the White House’s coronavirus task force. Sources say that Atlas turned in his resignation letter to President Donald J. Trump on Monday.

Atlas tweeted his resignation letter. In the letter he said that his “advice was always focused on minimizing all the harms from both the pandemic and the structural policies themselves, especially to the working class and the poor.”

“I sincerely wish the new team all the best as they guide the nation through these trying, polarized times,” he wrote.

Atlas was a Fox News commentator who was appointed to the coronavirus task force. He brought some of the most outrageous claims about the pandemic.

Scott Atlas has been pushing for relaxed restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic.

Atlas appeared on the far-right network to celebrate the comments from New York’s Democratic governor Andrew Cuomo and Dr. Anthony Fauci. Cuomo is considering opening back schools in the state. The state has seen a rise in coronavirus cases.

Atlas’ stint with the White House was controversial. He was decrying the ideas of closing up schools, businesses and government because in his mind, the coronavirus pandemic is “mass hysteria.” He was also advocating for the return of college sports.

Atlas was criticizing Michigan’s Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer’s decision to shut down the state. The comments came shortly after the feds broke up a terrorist plot to kidnap her.

Stanford University has also distanced itself from Atlas. They believe that his remarks “underscores the triumph of science and truth over falsehoods and misinformation.”

“[Dr. Atlas’] actions have undermined and threatened public health even as countless lives have been lost to COVID-19,” said the university.

There are over 16.3 million infections, 200,000 daily cases and 320,000 deaths from the coronavirus.
