Well, compromise did come at a price for the Democrats and Republicans. They have reached a deal on the pandemic emergency aid.
The Democrat-controlled House and Republican-controlled Senate agreed to a $900 billion bill that will send long-awaited aid to small businesses, extend unemployment benefits, provide funding for vaccine distribution, send a $600 stimulus check to Americans making less than $75,000, and several other forms of economic relief and pandemic response assistance.
Congress will try to vote on this package by the end of the night. It will be accompanied by the funding to keep the government running until September 2021.
Americans are going to quickly condemn this. For example, getting $600 is a drop in the bucket.
Many can’t pay rent or any medical bills with this amount. Republicans were not budget hawks throughout President Donald J. Trump’s term. They supported giving tax cuts to the wealthy leading to massive debt.
Trump’s four years piled on more debt than his predecessor Barack Obama. Trump golfed far more than his predecessor in his two terms.
The Republicans obsession with curbing the nation’s debt and trying to stifle the safety net will be the usual tactics when Joe Biden takes office.
The president-elect will be spending the next four years trying to clean up the mess the Republicans made. The Republicans will try to rewrite history and pretend they had no role in the actions they committed during Obama’s two terms. Trump’s one term and Biden’s presidency.
It’s very pathetic that the middle class gets only a mere $600 while the wealthy continue to enjoy those tax cuts.
