The XFL Is Over!

The XFL folds again.
Donald J. Trump's best friend is the owner and CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment. He is about to see his dream to start a football league crash and burn, again.

The Great American Comeback folks.

Looks like the second time isn't the charm. It's been reported that that XFL is going out of business.

The second incarnation of the football franchise once again is folding and its due to the coronavirus.

The league has laid off all employees and those who were signed to the eight teams are opted out for teams with the National Football League and Canadian Football League.

This is the brainchild of media mogul and WWE CEO Vince McMahon. The last time he tried the XFL was in 2001.

"Given the uncertainty of the current environment, the XFL has suspended operations and is evaluating next steps," said McMahon in a presser.
Vince McMahon announces the XFL has suspended 2020 and is not likely to return in 2021.
ESPN said that the league isn't broke yet. However, the 2021 season isn't happening.

It was expected to be a 10-week season but it was cut down to five after the COVID-19 pandemic sidelined the teams and league grinded to a halt.

The TV ratings and attendance was respectable. The XFL promised it was going to return if conditions changed. It turns out that it's far worse than expected.

Games averaged a decent amount of attendance.

St. Louis lost the Rams to Los Angeles after a 30 years stint. They were hoping to bring football back to the Rust Belt city.

The XFL ceased operations on Friday.

But XFL Chief Operations Officer Jeffrey Pollack changed course by notifying the employees and teams that it's pretty much over.

The last football league was the Alliance of American Football. It only lasted one season and closed in 2019 after three weeks of games.

The eight teams that were with the XFL included:

DC Defenders
Dallas Renegades
New York Guardians
Los Angeles Wildcats
Houston Roughnecks
St. Louis Battlehawks
Seattle Dragons
Tampa Bay Vipers

Had the XFL succeeded, it would have expanded into Oklahoma City, Cleveland, Detroit, Salt Lake City, Atlanta and Memphis.

XFL was a part of the Alpha Sports and Entertainment Group. The owners are Vince McMahon, his wife, former Small Business Administration chief Linda McMahon, Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon-Levesque and Paul Michael Levesque (aka Triple H).
