Shawntae Harris is a media personality, rapper, actress and DJ. She goes by the stage name of Da Brat and is one of the co-hosts of Dish Nation and the Rickey Smiley Show
She was one of the old school crushes I had back when I was in middle school.
Da Brat began her rap career in the early 1990s. Her debut album, Funkdafied sold over 1 million copies and it made her the first female solo rapper to earn a platinum certification.
She also released Anuthatantrum, Unrestricted and Limlite, Luv & Nightclubz.

She had run-ins with the law. She was accused of hitting a woman with a rum bottle at a strip club.
Da Brat had ended up with one year of in-house and ordered to pay for the victim's injuries. She also got into another server and hit her in the face with a rum bottle. It lead to permanent injuries and Da Brat get three years in the iron college. Upon release, she was sued by the victim. The victim, Shayla Stevens sued the rapper for nearly $10 million for injuries and past/future loss of earnings.

She credits her mentor and friend Jermaine Durpi (Mauldin) as her inspiration and motivation. Dupri was there for her throughout the ordeal. He even threw her a "welcome home" party once she got out the iron college.

Last month, Da Brat celebrated her birthday. She was shocked at the present. The present was a Bentley and it came from her girlfriend, business mogul Jesseca Dupart.
Dupart, who lives in Atlanta and founded Kaleidoscope Hair after her salon burned down in 2013, counts Blac Chyna, Christina Milian and Nene Leakes as supporters.
Yes, it's confirmed that Da Brat is openly gay or bisexual.
This is the first time the entertainer opened up about her sexuality.
"I've always been an advocate of privacy, pretty much to protect the interests of the other party involved. Because if you're not used to this life and the scrutiny that come with it, it can break you," she said.
Da Brat is the younger half-sister of actress, reality television agitator LisaRaye McCoy.
