227 celebrates 35 years on the air.

It's a reunion of friends. 

The classic sitcom 227 is on Antenna TV and TV One.

The series lasted five seasons it featured a gossipy housewife who lives in a Washington, DC apartment building with her husband and young daughter. They would have characters who had their own zany actions.

It starred Marla Gibbs, Hal Williams, Regina King, Jackee Harry, Helen Martin, Alaina Reed and Helen Martin. Also included were Curtis Baldwin, Countess Vaughn, Toukie A. Smith, Stoney Jackson, Barry Sobel, Paul Winfield, Kia Goodwin and Kevin Peter Hall.

The show was inspired by a play written by Christine Houston about the lives of women living in a predominately Black apartment building in 1950s Chicago. The setting was changed to Washington, DC in the mid-1980s and it was a starting vehicle for Gibbs who was best known for her role as witty maid and friend Florence on The Jefferson.

227 was a hit on NBC and is consider one of the best Black sitcoms of all time.

Marla played Mary Jenkins, a wise gossipy housewife who offered stablility to the family and friends of 227. She is married to Lester Jenkins (played by Hal Williams) who own a construction company. He was often working hard to provide for Mary and daughter Brenda (played by Regina King). They would often see Brenda go through the trials and tribulations of being a teenage daughter. She would have a crush and on-and-off relationship with neighbor Calvin Dobbs (played by Curtis Baldwin).

Mary would rely on her best friend Rose Holloway (played by Alaina Reed) who is a neighbor and single mother. Her daughter Tiffany (played by Kia Goodwin) was Brenda's best friend. She was written out of the show during the third season. Mary and Rose often enjoy talking about the latest things going on at 227 and often get some of the juiciest news from Pearl Shay (played by Helen Martin).

The ladies would often clash with the upstair neighbor Sandra Clark (played by Jackee Harry).

Sandra was the antagonistic neighbor who often boast about her latest relationships with rich and powerful men in Washington, DC. She would often rely on the luxury of life while still riding the Metro Bus. She often would be a foe in the first two seasons. Mary and Rose would grow to love Sandra and help her through heartbreak when she would find love in a man who she felt was the "right one."

Regina King reunites with Marla Gibbs, Jackee Harry, Curtis Baldwin and Hal Williams.

Marla Gibbs and Jackee Harry had a feud during the third season of the show. It brought tension to the set and the producers were considering a spin-off for Jackee.

The spin-off lasted two episodes and shortly cancelled. It was incorporated as lost episodes of 227. Soon Jackee would return to recurring for the final two seasons of the show.

Gibbs and Harry would reconcile after 10 years of not talking to one another.

In the first seasons, the 227 building was own by a slumlord who would pass away from a heart attack. Rose took over the building in the two seasons as the landlord. Then she was forced to sell her building to a greedy business executive played by Kelesy Grammar. Soon he would hire snobbish and devious Julian C. Barlow as the landlord of 227.
