Eddie Van Halen is the iconic rocker of a generation. He passed away from throat cancer.
A sad day in the music world. An iconic rocker and activist passed away.

The man who gave his band the namesake has passed away from cancer. Eddie Van Halen passed away at the age of 65 from cancer, his family says.

The trailblazing rocker is perhaps one of the greatest guitarist in the world had been battling throat cancer. I guess he was suffering from terminal cancer but kept it out of the public eye.

His son, Wolfgang Van Halen confirmed on social media that his dad passed away peacefully and praised his dad for being a legend to so many. He said that he was his best friend.
Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang broke the news on social media today.
He leaves behind his second wife Janie Liszewski. His first wife, actress Valerie Bertinelli is the mother of his only child, Wolfgang.

A god of the guitar and the legend of rock and roll, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen was a Dutch-American musician, songwriter, producer and inventor.

He is the inventor of three patent guitars. A folding prop to support a guitar in a flat position, a tension-adjusting tailpiece and an ornamental design for a headstock.

Listen to Van Halen's greatest hits.

He along with brother, drummer Alex Van Halen, bassist Mark Stone and singer David Lee Roth formed the band Van Halen. The group formed in Pasadena, California in the early 1970s and have been credited for "restoring hard rock to the forefront of the music scene."
Eddie Van Halen married Valerie Bertinelli in the 1980s.
Born in Amsterdam, Eddie was the son of Jan Van Halen and Eugenia Van Halen. He and brother Alex moved with their family to California and became naturalized citizens. As a child, Eddie and Alex had played the piano as children and learned classical from their mentor Stasys Kalvaitis.

He admits he couldn't read the music sheets. But he learned from being visual and learned the art of music through his teacher. He studied Mozart and Bach and had found a new way of playing.

At first, he felt like he messed up the classical piece. The judges didn't think he messed up. Yet, he motivate himself to become a talented musician. After hearing the music of The Surfaris album, he decided to form a rock band.

He and Alex decided to form a band with three neighborhood boys. They called themselves The Broken Combs and performed at their elementary school in Pasadena. He said he wanted to be a rocker.

He said that the British rock collective of Cream inspired him to be the greatest rocker ever.
Eddie Van Halen leaves behind his son Wolfgang and second wife, Janie.
The Broken Combs would change their name to Van Halen in 1972 and become a very powerful rock group of the 1970s and 1980s.

You may know the best song for weddings, graduations and workouts. The song "Jump."

It is one of the best rock singles I've heard.

Mind you that Van Halen is a part of my 1980s childhood.

Eddie admits he lived the rock star life. He was a heavy smoker. He binged on cocaine and alcohol and cheated on Valerie numerous times. He admitted his faults. But he knew the risk.

He felt blessed to be a father and a motivator to so many who wanted to be musicians and entertainers.
