Sean Connery Passed Away!

Sir Sean Connery passed away at the age of 90.
 

The original James Bond himself, Sean Connery passed away in his sleep in The Bahamas. 

A truly iconic legend of film, television and radio. The Scottish actor whose five-decade long career was dominated by the role of James Bond, died at the age of 90.

Connery, who was awarded an order of knighthood in 2000, for his contribution to the arts, played the iconic spy in seven movies, beginning with Dr. No in 1962, the first of the Bond movies.

Connery was more than Bond. He started in the Alfred Hitchcock film, Marnie opposite Tippi Hedren, and was a part of an all-star cast in the 1974 movie Murder on the Orient Express.


He also played Indiana Jones’ father in the Lucasfilm/Amblin Entertainment movie Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. He won an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his performance as Chicago cop Jim Malone in the 1987 movie The Untouchables.

“He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words ‘The name’s Bond… James Bond’ -- he revolutionised the world with his gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent,” James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said.

They said they were devastated by his death.

“He is undoubtedly largely responsible for the success of the film series and we shall be forever grateful to him.”

Sean’s most famous movies included: The Hunt for Red October, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Rock, Entrapment, Finding Forrester, Rising Sun and Medicine Man.

He had served in the Royal Navy from 1946 to 1949. He was the rank of Ableseaman on the HMS Formidable.

He began acting in 1954 until he semi-retired in 2003. He would do one acting gig. He last roles before retirement were Sir Billi and a documentary Ever to Excel.

Thomas Sean Connery was born in 1930 in the Fountainbridge section of Edinburgh, Scotland.

He was a supporter of an independent Scotland.

He was married to Diane Cilento from 1962 until 1973. He had one son, Jason Connery. He would later remarry and be with Micheline Roquebrune until his death.
