Activism works. It appears that the truck driver who caused a major accident on Interstate 70 in Colorado is getting his time off after he was sentenced to 110 years in the iron college. The driver claims his brakes gave out when he zoomed through traffic and crashed directly into vehicles waiting in a traffic jam.

Rogel Aguilera-Mederos' sentence was commuted by Gov. Jared Polis. The Democratic governor heard the calls from activists who thought the sentence was too harsh and the driver didn't merit intent.

He will be getting 10 years instead of that massive sentence.

The move came days after a judge scheduled a hearing in January for a consideration to reducing the term.

Over 5 million people signed a petition for the governor to ease up on the guy.

Aguilera-Mederos' attorneys, Leonard Martinez and James Colgan said they were "surprised" by how fast Polis acted, adding that it is "unusual" for a governor to act on clemency before the appellate process takes place.

But now that Polis has acted, Colgan said they believe that the case is no longer in the jurisdiction of the courts or the DA's office and King's promise to release new information is a case of "sour grapes" and based on "political motivations."

"It wouldn't matter what she disclosed now," Colgan told ABC News.

"I'm not aware of any law that allows [the DA's office] to have jurisdiction over the case," he added.

Asked what the new information may be, "I have no idea," the attorneys both said.

The driver killed Miguel Angel Lamas Arellano, 24; William Bailey, 67; Doyle Harrison, 61; and Stanley Politano, 69.

The state prosecutor overseeing the case is disappointed. She believed that his actions should merit a lengthy bid. Had he used the runaway ramp, none of this would have happened. He claimed that he couldn't catch the ramp and his brakes gave out.

This incident is an example of how people of color are being sentenced for lengthy bids despite white people getting the same.

In 2022, we will continue to fight for criminal justice reform.
