This morning, I was briefed on the devastating tornadoes across the central U.S. To lose a loved one in a storm like this is an unimaginable tragedy. We’re working with Governors to ensure they have what they need as the search for survivors and damage assessments continue.

We are praying for our Western Kentucky families. 2/2

Our hearts are broken for all those suffering from last night’s terrible storms .
— Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul) December 11, 2021
I and my team will do all we can to assist local and state officials as they lead the immediate response, and will aggressively help families, businesses, and officials access recovery resources.
I am praying for the lives lost and communities impacted by the tornado devastation throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Thank you to our brave first responders. I will work to aid our communities with the federal funding and resources they need to rebuild. My full statement: pic.twitter.com/ZNqisgBCFn

MAYFIELD, KENTUCKY: WDRB's Travis Ragsdale has arrived in Mayfield, Kentucky, one of the locations hardest hit by overnight storms. He describes the town as "basically gone" with "just about every building destroyed." @TravisRagsdale #tornado #kytornado #kytornaoes pic.twitter.com/uFB5a8aRIV

Over 36 tornadoes touched down in the Midwest and Southeast. States affected include Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana, Tennessee, Illinois, Oklahoma and Ohio.
A catastrophic tornado tore through Southwestern Kentucky town. It has killed over 100 people. The devastation is bad. Gov. Andy Beshear, President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Obstructionist Leader Karen McConnell (R-KY), Sen. Karen Paul (R-KY), Rep. Karen Comer, Jr. (R-KY) and the five other U.S. Representatives were notified.
Now I wonder if these Republican asshats would vote for the Build Back Better bill?
Paul and McConnell are standing in the way of passing the infrastructure bill that includes reducing climate change. Many of these Republicans refuse to acknowledge climate change is real.
Paul will still vote against funding his own state. He is by far the worst legislator in the country.
Knowing now a major disaster hits a Republican state and the two main obstructionists senators and five House members' refusal to invest in infrastructure now finally comes to head.
A December tornado destroys a town of Mayfield, Kentucky. The governor estimates over 100 people are killed.
A possible EF-4 or possibly EF-5 tornado destroyed the heart of the town.
The tornado's path was over 200 miles. |
Mayfield is located in Southwestern Kentucky. Interstate 69 (The Purchase Parkway) travels through that town.
An Amazon facility was damaged in Edwardsville, Illinois. At least one person is confirmed dead from the tornado damage. Gov. J.B. Pritzker was notified about the tornado damage.
Arkansas tornadoes ripped through the northern section of the state. There was a nursing home that was destroyed and five people are confirmed dead. Gov. Karen Hutchinson was notified about the damages.
We gonna need some lawmakers who will acknowledge climate change. We gonna need lawmakers who will pass laws to strengthen the safety net. We gonna need lawmakers who will do more than offer thoughts and prayers to tragedies.
So if you live in the area affected by the tragedies, please have patience. The law and emergency crews are overwhelmed. You have places that offer heating/cooling centers, shelters, Wi-Fi, water and food.
Also, please understand that the federal government is activated for the states affected by this.
Climate change doesn't care about your politics. The coronavirus doesn't care about your politics.
Expect the president to be touring the region in the coming days.
