It seems like the two got into a heated spat over that.
Donald J. Trump childed Sheldon Adelson, the billionaire Las Vegas casino mogul. Adelson, a big player in the Republican Party's donor listing was not amused by the Trump campaign's remarks.
Adelson, who is a huge supporter of the apartheid in Israel and Republican causes usually cuts a hefty paycheck for Trump.
The 87-year old casino mogul had reached out to the Trump campaign to talk about the coronavirus relief bill and the economy. But then Trump brought the conversation around to the campaign and confronted Adelson about why he wasn't doing more to bolster his reelection.
Three sources with direct knowledge of the call said that Trump had no idea how much Adelson had helped his reelection chances. Adelson chose not to back at Trump.
When word got out that Trump attacked Adelson, the Republicans panicked. They were so worried about the tension, some Republican operatives had to smooth things over. Some have said that the damage was done.
While it's unclear if Adelson will continue to back Trump's reelection through donations and campaign fundraisers, the fallout could put significant damage to Trump.
The White House decline to comment on the phone call.
