Ilhan Omar Will Keep The House Bern'n!

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) defeats a tough primary challenger.
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) faced a tough challenger from the left and managed to beat him.

Omar was outraised by her opponent, Antone Melton-Meaux, a Somali-American lawyer who started gaining momentum in the run up to the primary.

Melton-Meaux has criticized Omar for being too much in the limelight and not backing Democratic presumptive nominee Joe Biden. He said that Omar is too toxic for the district.

Omar, a refugee from Somalia came to the United States after war. She strived to become the first Muslim woman to be elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party. After a few years of serving, she ran for the open seat that was being vacated by the first African American and Muslim to hold the seat, Keith Ellison. Ellison would end up winning his election to be the Attorney General of Minnesota. Omar would end up winning her primary easily and became one of two Muslim women to become the members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Omar had the backing of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the House Speaker, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). She also got backing from Gov. Tim Walz. She had the backing of the unions and local activists.

The George Floyd tragedy turned her campaign around. She is now thrusted into the limelight as a civil rights activist.

Omar was the last of the Squad to face a tough primary challenger. Her fellow lawmakers, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) managed to beat back tough primary challengers. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) easily won her primary because no one challenged her.
Antone Melton-Meaux may challenge her again in 2022. He concedes that he didn't have the backing.
The three faced scrutiny over their tepid endorsement to Joe Biden and their endorsement of the Bernie Bros, a toxic bunch of supporters of Sanders.

The KHive, a toxic bunch of supporters of Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) started an online campaign to funnel money to the Democratic challengers of AOC, Ilhan and Rashida. The progressives are feuding with the leftists. They believe leftists are trying to sabotage Democrats attempts to defeat Donald J. Trump.

The leftists upset that Sanders lost are pushing Russian Active Measures to undermine Biden. To make this clear, the three were feared they would be primaried by the mainstream progressives.

She expanded her base by winning 57 percent of the vote against her two challengers during the election cycle, compared with her 48 percent victory in the 2018 primary.

"In Minnesota, we know that organised people will always beat organised money," she wrote on social media following her win. "Despite the attacks, our support has only grown."

Omar's district is predominantly Democratic, and she is expected to win in November.

One of the first two Muslim women to be elected to Congress in 2018, Omar, 37, is well-known as a member of the "Squad" of four freshman liberal congresswomen.

Cori Bush, a Missouri activist and former nurse will become the Democratic nominee running for the seat occupied by St. Louis lawmaker Rep. Lacy Clay (D-MO).

(William) Lacy Clay was defeated in his primary challenge against Bush. Bush will likely win the seat and become a member of the Squad.

Omar represents the 5th Congressional District of Minnesota. She is part of the Justice Democrats and is a member of Black Congressional Caucus.
