Born in The Bronx, Carlton Reiner was an American comedian, actor, director, screenwriter and publisher whose career spanned over seven decades. During the early years of television, Carl has co-wrote and acted on Caesar's Hour and Your Show of Shows, starring Sid Caesar. In the 1960s, Carl as best known for being the creator, writer, producer and actor on the hit series The Dick Van Dyke Show.
Reiner has been famously tied to the American funnyman Mel Brooks. He starred in the 2000 Year Old Man and acted in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, The Russians Are Coming, the Russians Are Coming, and the Ocean's film series.
His talents go beyond stage, television and motion pictures. Reiner has won many awards and honors including nine Emmy Awards and one Grammy Award and The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
His family is a full of talent. Besides Rob, his daughter is author Annie Reiner, his other son is Lucas Reiner, a painter, print maker and photographer, and granddaughter, actress Tracy Reiner.
Carl was born in 1922 to Irving and Bessie Reiner. His parents were Jewish immigrants/ His father was from Austria and mother was from Romania. His other brother Charlie served in World War II in the 9th Division.
Carl was drafted in the Army Air Forces and served during the war achieving the rank of corporal.
He would serve in the Pacific Theater.
Reiner was performing in the several Broadway musicals (including Inside U.S.A. and Alive and Kicking) and had the lead role in Call Me Mister.
His break came in the roles of television. When he met Sid Caesar, his career took off.
Using his experiences as a television writer, Reiner created The Dick Van Dyke Show, starring Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore and occasionally himself as temperamental host Alan Brady.
When the show ended in 1966 after five seasons, Reiner began directing films, notably the box office hits Oh, God!, starring George Burns," and The Jerk, starring Steve Martin.

In his later years, Reiner returned to the screen, making guest appearances on Mad About You and Beggars and Choosers, and co-starring in the remake of the Rat Pack classic, Ocean's Eleven and the film's two sequels.
Carl Reiner's assistant, Judy Nagy, confirmed to ABC News his passing last night of natural causes at his home in Beverly Hills.
Carl wanted to live to see that day that Donald J. Trump got voted out of office.
