Bonnie Pointer of The Pointer Sisters passed away.

The lead singer of sister group, The Pointer Sisters passed away.

The Oakland-based R&B group achieved mainstream success in the 1970s and 1980s.

Comprised of June Pointer, Anita Pointer, Ruth Pointer, Sadako Pointer, Issa Pointer and Bonnie Pointer. The group spanned over four decades with songs that crossover pop, disco, jazz, bebop, electronic, blues, soul, funk, dance, country and rock.

The most popular songs from The Pointer Sisters were, "Jump (For My Love)," "I'm So Excited," "Automatic," and the "Neutron Dance."

It was confirmed that Bonnie Pointer had passed away.

Bonnie Pointer was a successful solo singer.

Her sister Anita confirmed that she passed away Monday morning.

"It is with great sadness that I have to announce to the fans of The Pointer Sisters that my sister, Bonnie died this morning. Our family is devastated, on behalf of my siblings and I and the entire Pointer family, we ask for your prayers at this time."

Bonnie was one of the original members of the group. When the group originated out of Oakland, California, it was just two sisters and Bonnie was the lead singer. She left the group in the mid-1970s to pursue a successful solo career.

She is best known for the single "Heaven Must Have Sent You."

Anita said of Bonnie, "was my best friend and we talked every day, we never had a fight in our life, I already miss her and I will see her again one day."

Bonnie had signed a deal with Motown during the 1970s and 1980s. She released three albums and produced a handful of singles.

Bonnie would appear with her sisters occasionally to sing their greatest hits.

Born Patricia Eva Pointer she was an American singer. She released four albums in her career.

She was married to Motown producer Jeffrey Brown in 1978. As of 2014, Bonnie separated from Brown and finalized their divorce in 2016.

Tragedy struck in 2006 when June passed away from lung cancer at the tender age of 52.

Her siblings were all by her beside, all except for Bonnie.

The feud deepened when Bonnie appeared on Entertainment Tonight saying the other sisters had not fulfilled the burial wishes for June, instead having her cremated because it was cheaper.

Bonnie also claimed the sisters had not let her ride in the family car at the funeral.

The sisters were estranged from Bonnie until she joined Anita Pointer on the Idol Radio Show in 2007.

And by 2009 Ruth, Anita and Bonnie had reunited with gusto.
