Angie Martinez got seriously hurt in a car accident. |
The New York radio personality was most notable for her role as afternoon deejay on Hot 97 from 1997 to 2014. She has joined radio rival, Power 105.1 shortly after.
The radio personality is of Puerto Rican, Cuban and Dominican heritage. She was dubbed "The Voice of New York" because of her then Hot 97 show being consistently being ranked #1 in the region and perhaps the whole country.
Martinez said on social media that she suffered a severe injury to spine and back.
According to BET, Martinez revealed that she suffered a shattered vertebrae and a fractured lumbar, referred to as the region of the lower spine and back.
According to the Shade Room, the Power105.1 host will undergo four hours of surgery in order to repair her vertebrae in her lower back. The reports reveled that she does have feeling in her legs and feet, despite the severity of the accident.
Martinez announced she will take a leave of absence to heal and recuperate.
In social media, her representatives offered her official response.
"I've always believed in angels and mine was with me the other morning. I was in a severe car accident and sustained a fractured lumbar and shattered vertebrae. I'm recovering and will be for some time, but I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to do that. Wanted you all to hear it from me first and know that although this is a difficult time, I am in the best spirits possible and determined to be back and better than ever soon! God bless and I deeply appreciate all the love & prayers."
Angie Martinez is an American radio personality, rapper, actress and reality television star.
Martinez has a 16-year old son from then boyfriend, former Dru Hill singer/producer Tamir "Nokio" Ruffin.
The only news report I can determine what happened to her was back in October.
A man was killed a woman was critically injured in a crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
This happened in the Bronx. A man was driving a Subaru crashed into a vehicle being driven by a 33-year old woman. The BMW was sideswiped by the man driving the Subaru. I don't want to speculate but that's the only acknowledgement of a severe accident on the radar.
