It appears that the Democrats will retain the seat in New Mexico's 1st Congressional District.

One of the first Native American women to be in Congress is now the first White House Cabinet official.

Deb Haaland was picked to become the Secretary of Interior and it left a vacancy. Now with a razor thin majority, the Democrats need to retain every seat. With the redistricting coming next year, Democrats could lose control of the House of Representatives.

Enter the race to replace her. 

Today is the special election. Two candidates running for the seat are competing for the spot. It appears that Democrat Melanie Stansbury is expected to win. 

The district has been trending solidly Democratic since 2008, and voted for Joe Biden by 23 points.

With the races in Ohio being held in August for Marcia Fudge who left to join Housing and Urban Development and Steve Stivers who left to join Ohio's Chamber of Commerce, Democrats need all the energy to beat back the white nationalists in Congress.

Republicans are hoping to capitalize off of selective memory and culture wars. The window is so fucking short for President Joe Biden.

Republican Mark Moores who is expected to run again if he loses is going to bank on Washed Up 45's theme of being a "stolen election."
