The Kroger Company has decided to kill two birds with one stone by building a new location in Riverside, an inner suburb of Dayton, Ohio. It will be built on the old Kmart property.
Kmart and Sears are officially on the dead store walking list. Kmart is no longer in Ohio.
Kroger announced they are planning a Kroger Marketplace at the location of Woodman Drive and Burkhardt Road in Riverside. It will be the latest in Kroger's plan to eliminate its classic stores.
Kmart once dominated Dayton. Kmart now have 50 stores left. |
“When the new store opens, the Kroger locations on Spinning Road and Smithville Road will be consolidated,” Rolfes said.
It will force the closure of two locations that were a part of East Dayton and Riverside for decades.
“We look forward to welcoming customers to the new Riverside location for the Fresh and Friendly experience they expect from Kroger, alongside expanded offerings throughout the store,” Rolfes said.
Rolfes says the company anticipates inviting all current associates at the Spinning and Smithville locations to continue their Kroger career at a nearby store.
The East Dayton Kroger store on Smithville Road will close. |
A decision once again put a part of the community into a food desert and leaves another vacant property for taggers and arsonists.
Dayton has a huge problem with food deserts, graffiti, arsons and poor infrastructure.
There will be only one Kroger location in the city of Dayton. It will be the Wayne Avenue location. Eventually the company will built one in Kettering near Walmart and it will force the closure of that location.
Most Kroger locations are outside the city limits. That has been a big issue in the community.
Walmart, Meijer, Target and Aldi also have stores outside the city limits.
They should force Kroger, Meijer, Aldi, Target and Walmart pay for the demolition of abandon buildings.
The Gem City Market which opened in May is the community owned and operated grocery store on Salem Avenue in Northwest Dayton. The store is slowly building support in the community.
Hopefully, Gem City will break ground and build more stores. Because I am right now getting tired of these national grocers leaving our communities for the suburbs.
