A California teacher was recorded on Zoom calling a Black child a "piece of shit." 

Now his mother is filing a lawsuit against the school. She said the whole ordeal scarred her child. 

So what happened?

Kimberly Newman, the science teacher for the Desert Willow Fine Arts Science and Technology Magnet Academy in Palmdale, California was caught on a video conference call insulting her student. She didn't realize that her student and his mother Katura Stokes were listening to the whole rant.

So this teacher was making the claim that Stokes and her son were making ridiculous excuses for not getting proper access to the internet. Stokes had to struggle keeping lights on because she lost her job due to the pandemic.

Neither party officially ended the Zoom conference call -- but unbeknownst to Newman, who immediately complained about the student and his mother to her husband. When Stokes heard the remarks, she immediately got her camera to record the audio.

Newman claimed to her husband that Stokes had been avoiding her and only returned a missed call from the teacher by mistake -- an action Newman ultimately equated with the mother's skin color.

"She answered her phone for the first time the entire year," Newman said. "I mean these parents, that's what kind of piece of shit they are."

Newman kept going deeper.

"Two kinds of pieces of shit," she continued. "They're Black, he's Black."

After calling Stokes' son a liar who resorts to make excuses, Neman offered her take about it.

"Your son has learned to lie to everybody and make excuses to be a child," Newman continued. "Since you’ve taught him to make excuses that nothing is his fault. This is what Black people do."

During the rant, Newman also accused Stokes' son of having learned to lie to everybody. The teacher continued, "You've taught him to make excuses that nothing is his fault."

"This is what Black people do," Newman added. "This is what black people do. White people do it, too, but black people do it way more."

Newman was initially placed on administrative leave. She decided to resign instead of facing a cannon firing. Stokes had filed a complaint with the school board and has taken her son out of the school.

"Ms. Stokes is concerned about her son's ability to get a 'fair shake' at school since ... other teachers appear to share similar feelings about he and Ms. Stokes," the lawsuit said.

The teacher has not commented since the video went viral but it appears that she's not going to be able to teach in California if they remove her license.
