Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) is going to be added to the list of President Donald J. Trump's headaches. The Republicans are very concerned that the president is going to cost them the House and maybe the Senate.
Salazar, a vocal supporter of Trump had released a campaign ad criticizing his aggressive deportation strategy. Many of the curmudgeon's staunchest supporters were Cubans, Haitians and Venezuelans.
Well ICE is removing everyone even the civilians who aren't U.S. citizens.
Salazar who is in competitive race despite her district being favorable towards her shook the Republican National Committee and House Republican Conference.
“Mr. President, some of your immigration enforcement efforts have gone too far. In July, 50% of the 50,000 people that were detained had no criminal record. Be careful what your advisors are telling you about immigration policy. The same Hispanics who helped you get to the White House in 2024 feel betrayed today,” she warned in the ad, which ran in both English and Spanish.
Salazar’s ad landed with the impact of a political earthquake as pundits from both sides of the aisle were stunned to see a Republican in a seat Trump won by 15 points so publicly breaking with him.
She cautions Trump that the exact same Hispanic voters who propelled him back to the White House in the 2024 election currently "feel betrayed" by his administration's broad-sweeping tactics.
She explicitly tells the president, "Be careful about what your advisors are telling you about immigration policies," heavily implying his hardline immigration architects are leading him astray politically.
Democratic challenger Elliott Rodriguez has dismissed the ad as a calculated political move to distance herself from the administration’s policies at the eleventh hour. The White House did not immediately issue a public response to the ad.
Salazar posted a photo of herself on social media with Trump, saying that when the twice-impeached former president occupied the White House there was no inflation, no socialist policies, no open borders – among other items.
The congresswoman did not wade into the election denial conspiracy which is the center of Trump’s re-election bid. He also faces 91 charges across four criminal cases and recently was ordered to pay $354 million for committing fraud through his businesses and $83 million to E. Jean Carroll for defamation after a judge determined he was liable for raping her.
The far right has publicly called for her to be thrown out of office and out of the United States.
