Kmart only has three locations left. |
Three stores left in the United States.
It is officially the end of Kmart. I don't see it lasting any longer than 2022.
Kmart has just three locations nationwide—in Westwood, NJ, Long Island, NY, and Miami, FL.
Transformco, the company owned by controversial hedge fund investor Eddie Lampert ruined the once viable and iconic brand. He literally piled debt on Kmart and Sears. He failed to stay with the times. He would ignore the concerns from workers, shoppers and business executives.
The pandemic also doomed the company. The holiday sales didn't pull in the good.
So we came to the final months of Kmart. These three locations will remain open for the time being. It will eventually begin the closing phase by Summer 2022. I will officially declare it the end of Kmart on this blog.
The company was incorporated in 1899 as S. S. Kresge Corporation and renamed Kmart Corporation in 1977. The first store with the Kmart name opened in 1962. At its peak in 1994, Kmart operated 2,486 stores globally, including 2,323 discount stores and Super Kmart Center locations in the United States.
There are only a dozen or so Sears locations left in the United States and territory of Puerto Rico.
