Brent Renaud was killed by the Russian military forces.
An American journalist was killed in Ukraine by the Russian forces. That assures the United States will engage in some form of retaliation. President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Congress were notified. The Russian Federation will denounce the death as "fake news."
To those who claim that journalism is dead, they might want to prove that by reporting a war.
The Russian Federation is committing war crimes by shooting members of the press covering the invasion of Ukraine. On top of that, Renaud has wore his press badge and literally was out there with press credentials.
The 51-year old Brent Renaud was shot and killed in Irpin, Ukraine by a Russian sniper. The journalist and filmmaker was shot in the neck while covering fleeing Ukrainians trying to elude military forces.
Another American journalist was injured in the attack. He is the first foreign journalist killed in the war.
BE WARNED THERE WILL BE GRAPHIC IMAGES!
Andriy Nebytov, the head of the Kyiv Oblast regional district posted on social media that the attack was callous and denounced Russia's military for committing a war crime. He said that journalists should be targeted for telling the truth. "Of course, the profession of a journalist is a risk, but U.S. citizen Brent Renaud paid his life for trying to highlight the aggressor's ingenuity, cruelty and ruthlessness."
The sniper did not care who it was. He saw a target. The Russian military is committing war crimes.
He shared on social media the graphic image of Renaud's lifeless body as well as his passport and press credentials labeled on his bulletproof vest.
Biden has not spoken on the matter but I can imagine he is clearly angry that an American died in the war. He has already sanctioned Russia and its president Vladimir Putin, what more can he do? I mean a "No Fly Zone" is a military warning before a full scale war. With Russia, being a nuclear power, it is doubtful that the U.S. and NATO will launch a counterstrike. As long as Russia doesn't move into NATO affiliated countries and the European Union and U.S. won't react with military response.
The Russian forces are trying to ambush military aid from the West. They have already struck a military base killing 35 and they are literally pillaging food and medical supplies. The images of children being killed is heartbreaking.
The sniper shot Renaud in the neck. The journalist covering had to leave his body because of the gunfire.
I am also saddened by Ukrainians, Romanians, Polish and Hungarian stopping people of color at the border.
This is probably why I haven't talked much about the invasion in Ukraine. The racist behavior of some Ukrainians makes me sick. The fact the U.S. is willing to accept Ukrainians to seek asylum but refuse Syrians, Haitians and Guatemalans and Colombians is racist.
We are supposed to be the country that accepts those who seek shelter. But given that this is a part of the Republican culture war, the talk about war and open borders are usual distractions Republicans.
Renaud was born in 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee. His brother Craig Renaud is journalist and filmmaker as well.
I don't want to hear the shit about guns saving lives. Cause a bullet does not have eyes and it's always likely gonna hit a target. These folks seem to not get it. These incidents are a tragic part of American history.
The website Officer Down is a memorial to those who were killed in the line of duty. Those who don't get their names mentioned in the junk food media. Also the website the National Gun Violence Memorial also keeps record of the many individuals killed by gun violence.
