Darius Rucker Broke His Voice Literally!

I'm losing my voice.

The frontman of the legendary rock/pop group Hootie & The Blowfish announces he had strained his voice and if he continues, he could permanently lose his voice.

Darius Rucker, 59 recently issued refunds to fans who attended his concert at the Hard Rock Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, July 12.

The country singer was forced to abruptly end his performance after losing his voice mid-show.

“Y’all, I can’t sing anymore,” Rucker told the audience. “This [has] never happened. I physically can’t sing, and I promise you on everything that I stand for I will make this up to you.”

The three-time Grammy winner was, however, able to finish singing his 2013 hit “Wagon Wheel” before leaving the stage.

The next day, Rucker took to his Instagram story to address the unexpected early end to his performance and apologize to fans.

“I feel awful, and I’m so sorry — I have never lost my voice in all my years of performing,” Rucker wrote July 13. “We looked at every option to reschedule, but unfortunately, it’s just not possible this year, so we’re issuing full refunds.”

“Thank you so much for all your kind messages wishing me well,” he concluded. “Love y’all, and see you soon!”

The concert marked the third stop on Rucker’s international tour, which kicked off in Maryland July 10.

Benzino: No Neck And No Cake! 🎂🫡

Raymond Scott (aka Benzino) is a former rapper and media personality. He turns 60 year old today. Today no trolling.

Those who listen to hip-hop barely heard of him. I have.

For over 20 years, I have watch the downfall of a media personality and rapper who underestimated a rival he wanted to battle.

His feud with Eminem (which is still ongoing) cost him everything. He is struggling like most Americans. President Donald J. Trump will lead the United States into a chaos once again.

As a token of goodwill, I will not be trolling Raymond Scott today.

Today is Raymond "Benzino" Scott's birthday. He officially crosses over the 60 line.

The former rapper and media agitator turns 60.

He also became a grandfather this year.

Rapper Coi Leray welcomed her daughter in June and Scott is excited that he is back in her presence. Coi's first child and Trippie Redd's second.

The child is named Miyoco White. Redd's son Saint comes from a previous relationship. Coi and Redd are no longer together.

Scott is doing some things with Tubi and has hinted returning to the studio.

Shout out to The Evolve, Wack 100, Crypt, Cliff Beats, NoLifeShaq, Aayan X, N.O.R.E., DJ EFN, The Danza Project, 50 Cent and all the podcasters on YouTube. These podcasters are the reasons to why I address the crisis with Scott. It has put a real dent in Coi Leray.

  81. He has literally proven to Eminem, he is a "Stan."
  82. He is a grandfather to Coi Leray's child Miyoco.
  83. He is considered the worst rapper in modern history.
  84. He has no neck.
  85. He has no fame.

It is part of an ongoing feud that has been going on for over 20 years. It is the only thing memorable about him. Besides the reality series, "Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta", Scott was the former co-owner of The Source Magazine and Hip-Hop Weekly.

He started a feud with Em to promote his album in 2002. Scott accused Em of being a "culture vulture" and a "Rap Elvis." Eminem is white and probably the most successful rappers because of his rhyming skills, not his race. Em released two devastating disses at Scott and ruined his rap career.

Scott in turn, used The Source Magazine as a weapon to trash Em. He tried to brand Em a racist after he made a demo tape dissing a Black woman. The song was blocked by Em and Scott ignored the injunction and released the single in full. Em sued the magazine and its founder Dave Mays, a white business executive and Scott's rap manager at the time. The Source ended up wasting all its money and going into bankruptcy. The magazine executives fired Mays and Scott after the feud. Mays ended up doing other ventures and Scott ended up going broke. Mays helped Scott get on reality television with Stevie J. He ended up ruining that and as of today, Scott has struggled.

Just to make this clear, Scott has tendencies to be bipolar, suicidal, violent and mentally unstable when he is under the influence of drugs and alcohol. So here the number for people dealing with mental illness and has suicidal tendencies.

Scott keeps saying that no one in the hood plays Eminem's music. Yet, he doesn't consider his music or even rivals Eminem defeated is played in the hood.

Scott said Em's music is trailer trash and most of his fans voted for Donald J. Trump. Eminem despises Trump and endorsed Kamala Harris for president. He normally doesn't get politiical but he hates politicians who target his music.

Eminem has dissed Candace Owens, Bill O'Reilly, C. Delores Tucker, Tipper Gore, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Dick Cheney, Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy and Majorie Taylor Greene.

He said thinks Em rhymes "masturbater in the elevator" whenever he's on the mic.

While Em does say controversial things, most of his lyrics are mostly double entredre. It usually flies over Scott's head. If Em was being subliminal, Scott would be spared the wrath.

Scott aimed at Em's family (daughter and grandson). Eminem responded in due time. He personally goes after rap rivals who still don't understand why he is considered one of the greatest rappers of all time.

Tell me:

Has anyone in the hood ever heard of a Benzino song (other than the most recent disses)?

Or perhaps has anyone ever played any of Benzino's music?

Let me make this clear. If you believe your street credibility leads to you being arrested, financially struggling, estranged from your family, constantly angry at people, always trying win favor for unruly behavior; it's not the streets, it's you.

Raymond Scott, please get some mental health treatment. Try to repair the broken relationship with Coi and Zino. Stop capping. Act your fucking age. Stop obsessing with Eminem.

Your behavior is a totally a prediction of being a stan.

By the way, I will be posting my 50 50 post soon. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson turned 50 in this July. We will pay tribute to the rapper, media mogul and online troll.

Trump Slow Walks!

This isn't three dimension chess. This is fucking reality.

Overnight, the president went into a late night rant about the public's concerns with the Jeffrey Epstein files. He ordered Attorney General Pam Bondi to release grand jury testimony to the public.

It comes on the heels of a bombshell story involving President Donald J. Trump's involvement with the late billionaire who is a sexual predator.

Former president Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew have alleged ties to Epstein.

The Wall Street Journal has released an article detailing how the president had sent a explicit photo and well wishes to Epstein on his 50th birthday in the early 2000s.

Trump wrote Epstein a letter for his 50th birthday in 2003 which included a crude drawing of a naked woman, with Trump’s signature as pubic hair, along with the message, “We have certain things in common, Jeffrey […] Happy Birthday — and may every day be another wonderful secret.”

Trump denied having written the letter, claiming, “I never wrote a picture in my life. I don’t draw pictures of women.”

Trump had threatened to sue because the story comes at a time where the president is trying to move on from this.

MAGA isn't letting it go.

Democrats aren't letting it go.

The president and Republican have pretty much sank their credibility by blocking even one aspect of the Epstein files. The Republicans and far right agitators for years demanded the secrets to be released. Now we have him in his second term and the president chickened out because clearly he is named in it.

Y'all voted for this.

The second term curse came quick.

The president imposed tariffs which rose consumer products and inflaton increased.

The president plans on violently seizing Canada, Greenland, the Panama Canal and Gaza. These were met with uproar and questioning of his cognitive abilities.

The president was spotted with bruises on his hand. He failed at covering them with makeup which lead to questions about his health.

The president in the campaign said he could end the conflicts within two weeks or sooner. Still chaos between Ukraine and Russia. Still chaos between Israel and the Arab league nations. Still a genocide in progress. Still chaos between India and Pakistan. Still conflicts with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Sudan.

The president launched attacks on Yemen, Somalia, Chad and Iran. So much for the no new wars.

The Big Beautiful Bill Act is passed but you barely hear anything about it because the Democrats and the junk food media are focused on the Epstein files too.

The Republicans are going to pass more draconian laws and gerrymander every fucking district to favor decades of rule.

The Republicans are afraid to stop him. If they attempt to stop him, they could be killed.

How To Ruin Your Life In One Photo!

The face of MAGA. Don't let them gaslight you into not believing it.

Peter Cytanovic will forever be the face of an iconic picture.

In 2017, the Charlottesville, Virginia city council approved the removal of a handful of confederate memorials around the city. It riled up the far right.

They organized a rally to protest the removal and a slew of extremist concerns.

It was the infamous Unite The Right rally.

Of course, this happened in President Donald J. Trump's first chaotic term.

He is predictably failing. The second term curse came very quick for a twice impeached, habitual liar, warm found liable fruadster, ajudicated sexual predator, gun violence victim struggling with cognitive mental decline.

The Unite The Right was the first test of a president in the time of unrest and injustice.

Counterprotesters met the Unite the Right members and it became a full scale riot.

The rally occurred amid the controversy which was generated by the removal of Confederate monuments by local governments following the Charleston church shooting in 2015, in which Dylann Roof, a white supremacist, shot and killed nine members of a black church, including the minister (a state senator), and wounded another member of the church. The rally turned violent after protesters clashed with counter-protesters, resulting in more than 30 injured.

On the morning of August 12, Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe declared a state of emergency, stating that public safety could not be safeguarded without additional powers. Within an hour, at 11:22 a.m., the Virginia State Police declared the rally to be an unlawful assembly. At around 1:45 p.m., self-identified white supremacist James Alex Fields Jr. deliberately rammed his car into a crowd of counter-protesters about ½ mile (800 m) away from the rally site, killing Heather Heyer and injuring 35 people.

Fields fled the scene in his car but was arrested soon afterward. He was tried and convicted in Virginia state court of first-degree murder, malicious wounding, and other crimes in 2018, with the jury recommending a sentence of life imprisonment plus 419 years.

Incel claims to denounce white supremacy. We don't believe you.

The following year, Fields pleaded guilty to 29 federal hate crimes in a plea agreement to avoid the death penalty in this trial.

Trump's remarks about the rally generated negative responses. In his initial statement following the rally, Trump condemned the "display of hatred, bigotry, and violence on many sides". This first statement and his subsequent defenses of it, in which he also referred to "very fine people on both sides", were criticized as implying a moral equivalence between the white supremacist protesters and the counter-protesters, despite his clarification in the same defense that he was not referring to the neo-Nazis and white nationalists as fine people, "because they should be condemned totally".

The rally and resulting death and injuries resulted in a backlash against white supremacist groups in the United States. A number of groups that participated in the rally had events canceled by universities, and their financial and social media accounts closed by major companies. Some Twitter users led a campaign to identify and publicly shame marchers at the rally from photographs; at least one rally attendee was dismissed from his job as a result of the campaign.

While the organizers intended for the rally to unite far-right groups with the goal of playing a larger role in American politics, the backlash and resultant infighting between alt-right leaders has been credited with causing a decline in the movement.

Cytanovic is the angry face that held a torch.

Now everyday he regrets it.

His father died of cancer. He is banned from many nightclubs in Reno and Sun Valley. Cytanovic is often having trouble keeping jobs. Anytime someone recognizes him, he is immediately terminated.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters briefly employed him whose image was synonymous with the infamous rally that brought white supremacists to Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017.

The Teamsters hired Cytanovic for an administrative job at the union’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., before firing him during his probationary period, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The union was unaware of Cytanovic’s past when he came onboard, the source said.

The Teamster leader Sean O'Brien spoke at the 2024 Republican National Convention and endorsed Trump. O'Brien publicly declined to endorse him or former vice president Kamala Harris. We all knew that was a fucking lie.

More than seven years earlier, Cytanovic, then a college student, traveled from Reno, Nevada, and marched among neo-Nazis in the “alternative right” demonstration on the University of Virginia grounds. The dramatic Getty photo of a screaming, white-polo-clad Cytanovic — then 20 years old, his face lit by tiki torches — became perhaps the most iconic image from the rally. He has since said he is not a white nationalist.

Cytanovic declined to discuss his stint with the Teamsters during a brief exchange outside his home on Wednesday.

Union president Sean O'Brien is Teamsters worst leader.

“They can suck dick,” he said of the union, “and you can get the fuck out of here.”

The Teamsters declined to comment on the matter.

HuffPost has learned that Cytanovic told the Teamsters he had previously worked as an organizer for the Service Employees International Union, another powerhouse in the labor movement. SEIU declined to comment.

Cytanovic’s hiring at one of the largest and most powerful U.S. unions first surfaced publicly in an anonymous Reddit post last month. Someone who identified themselves as an employee at Teamsters headquarters said they learned about their new co-worker’s Charlottesville trip after googling his name. The poster said they reported their findings to a manager, and Cytanovic was terminated.

On Tuesday, John Palmer, a member of the Teamsters’ executive board, shared on Facebook a letter he had sent to O’Brien, asking critical questions about the hire, including how the background check was done. Palmer is a vocal O’Brien critic who’s announced a run against the incumbent president in the union’s 2026 election.

“When we hire somebody at the international, they vet people and it takes at least three or four people signing off,” Palmer told HuffPost, referring to the main union, rather than its local affiliates. “I can’t speak to the vetting process.”

Cytanovic has maintained since the days immediately following the Charlottesville rally that he is “not the angry racist [people] see in that photo.” He said he was drawn to the rally in large part to defend the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee as a symbol of white, European heritage. Anti-racist activists had urged local officials to remove the Lee monument from a Charlottesville park.

“I hope people acknowledge that being a party to the alternative right does not make me an evil Nazi, and that being pro-white right now is dangerous, and being pro-white doesn’t mean I’m anti-anyone else,” he told Nevada’s Channel 2 News after the rally.

That article described Cytanovic as a “self-proclaimed white nationalist,” a label he disclaimed in a 2019 interview with The Beaver, a publication at the London School of Economics, where Cytanovic was studying for a master’s degree at the time.

“I thought white nationalism at the time was American nationalism, being proud of our history without condemning,” he said. “Without being an atomised individual, being part of a wider community. I’m ethnically American.”

Cytanovic also said he and other rally participants bear blame for the death of Heather Heyer, the counterprotester who was killed when a far-right demonstrator drove a car into a crowd the weekend of the rally.

“I caused hurt. There’s nothing I can do to change that now,” he said.

The viral 2017 image of Cytanovic has dogged him professionally and academically for years, long before his brief time with the Teamsters.

As HuffPost’s Christopher Mathias reported in 2021, Cytanovic joined the Nevada National Guard but was quickly booted before attending basic training. Although he had passed criminal and fingerprint checks, a guard spokesperson said Cytanovic was expelled due to his “affiliations.”

Before that, fellow students at the University of Nevada, Reno, had pushed for his expulsion, though the school’s administration resisted such calls on free-speech grounds. However, Cytanovic did end up resigning from his job with a campus escort service that provides free rides to students at night.

CBS Pulls Stephen Colbert!

CBS is ending late night. The Late Show is ending in 2026.

One of the biggest shocks in 2025.

To get the FCC to approve the Skydance merger with Paramount, Sheri Redstone will bend over backwards to appease President Donald J. Trump.

One of the president's critics is a comedian who has made fun of him and Republicans for years. Redstone will cut to make this deal work.

It will backfire.

CBS announced The Late Show is ending after the 2025-26 season. It rocks the junk food media and publicly shocks all the hard working people who helped Stephen Colbert become an iconic late night host.

This falls on Redstone and her old Zionst ass.

The decision — which ends years of original late-night programming at CBS that started when the network lured David Letterman from NBC in 1993 — comes as the economics of wee-hours TV have begun to accelerate, with media companies growing wary of the high price tags involved in producing the shows while the young viewers they try to attract watch more of them via digital video.

“We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire ‘The Late Show’ franchise” in May of 2026,” CBS executives said in a statement. “We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television. This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”

Colbert, who was informed of the network’s decision Wednesday evening, according to a person familiar with the matter, told the audience at the taping for Thursday’s broadcast about the matter.

There has been growing speculation that both Colbert and Jon Stewart, who hosts one broadcast of Comedy Central’s “Daily Show” each week could be under growing scrutiny from executives at Skydance Media, which is slated to acquire Paramount Global, the parent of both CBS and Comedy Central. David Ellison, who leads Skydance, has projected an image of being intrigued by the politics espoused by President Donald J. Trump, who Colbert and Stewart routinely skewer in monologues and commentary.

CBS has already been winding down its activity around midnight. The network recently cancelled “After Midnight,” a companion program that aired after “Late Show” and featured comedian Taylor Tomlinson. She decided to leave to focus on her own stand-up shows, even though CBS had sought a third season of the show.

America is in decline. Where elite billionaires are running things.

A civil war is coming.

CBS canceled SWAT, Poppa's House, The Neighborhood (2026), The Equalizer and other minority lead shows. Paramount is considering selling VH1 and BET.

Paramount is considering pulling South Park, SpongeBob SquarePants and The Daily Show.

Getting Old!

MAGA swollened.

When President Donald J. Trump, 79 was running in 2020 and 2024, he literally demonized former president Joe Biden because of his age and declining health.

Biden, 82 is diagnosed with terminal cancer has largely avoided the spotlight.

Biden has angered Democrats over his handling of the economy, foreign policies and refusal to fight the smears against him and former vice president Kamala Harris.

Trump and Republicans were constantly reminding us that Biden is a senile man who is in cognitive decline. They were chanting "Let's Go Brandon" and calling for Biden to be impeached.

Hunter Biden's laptop, Tara Reade, Burisma, his disastrous debate performance and other conspiracies plagued Biden.

Trump used those to force Biden out the presidential race. Then they pivoted to Harris on her laughter, calling her a DEI, slut shaming her for dating men, being a step mom and questioning her Blackness.

It managed to peel about 24% of the Black vote and it helped push Trump to victory.

For the first time, Trump actually won the popular vote despite being a sexual predator, a convicted felon, an old man and a twice impeached former president.

Trump is certainly going for his third impeachment. Democrats and Republicans are sick and tired of the president acting immature. They are tired of the bullshit.

The Jeffrey Epstein fallout has now placed Trump at odds with his most feverant supporters. They are turning on him because of the Epstein files.

Now some are questioning whether Trump is fit to be president.

Trump is being hit with allegations of him covering up his bruises with makeup, using a catheter and showing signs of cognitive decline.

Trump has a job approval of 37%

Vice President JD Vance has a job approval of 45%.

Congress has a job approval of 23%.

Trump disowned his supporters who have called for the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, chiding them Wednesday as "weaklings" who "bought into this bulls---."

The lengthy post on Truth Social represents the clearest split from the faction of his MAGA base that has questioned the Justice Department’s handling of the case.

My "PAST supporters have bought into this ‘bulls---’ hook, line, and sinker," he said in the post, adding, "Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work, don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore!"

The president and the conspiracy theorist.

The Justice Department published a memo this month determining that there was no evidence of an “incriminating ‘client list,’” prompting renewed consternation in MAGA world.

Attorney General Pam Bondi in particular has faced criticism over her handling of the case. Asked in a February Fox News interview about a potential client list, Bondi said that “it’s sitting on my desk right now to review.” During a Cabinet meeting last week, Bondi clarified that she had been referring to a file related to Epstein.

Trump has strongly defended Bondi from that criticism.

"Pam Bondi, I really think that she’s done very good," he told reporters Wednesday. "She says 'I gave you all the credible information,' and if she finds any more credible information, she’ll give that, too. What more can she do than that? I mean, honestly, what more can she do? And we do have bigger problems."

Pressed about his Truth Social post, Trump said, "I've lost a lot of faith in certain people ... because they got duped by the Democrats."

The White House did not reply to a request for comment. In recent days, several Republican members of Congress and other prominent Trump supporters have pushed for more transparency over files related to Epstein.

“I’m for transparency,” House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said in an interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson. “It’s a very delicate subject, but we should put everything out there and let the people decide.”

Greene groping a cutout of Trump in 2020.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said last week in an all-caps post on X that the Justice Department should "release the Epstein client list."

Asked to comment on Trump’s post, Johnson’s office pointed NBC News to Johnson’s statement Tuesday night about a Democratic effort to attach an amendment about the Epstein documents to the House cryptocurrency bill.

“All House Republicans are for truth and transparency,” the statement said in part. “And we know President Trump can be trusted to make the right decisions, to stand for justice, and to protect the innocent.”

Greene did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Minutes after Trump’s Truth Social post Wednesday, she posted on X: “My blind loyalty and faith is ONLY in God and Jesus Christ my savior. That is what will guide my decisions, actions, and votes."

Trump's post was bombarded with dozens of replies criticizing his remarks and the administration's handling of Epstein.

Debate over Epstein, the convicted sex offender whose death in 2019 was ruled a suicide, has emerged as a fault line in MAGA world. Trump and his allies have for years peddled theories about Epstein, only for Trump in recent days to question why the case "would be of interest to anybody."

"It’s pretty boring stuff. It’s sordid, but it’s boring, and I don’t understand why it keeps going," Trump told reporters Tuesday evening.

Trump was acquainted with Epstein, and he told New York Magazine in 2002 that Epstein was a "terrific guy." After Epstein was arrested, Trump said he had a falling-out with him "a long time ago."

Epstein's death in jail was ruled a suicide, and conspiracy theories quickly spread afterward that he was murdered as part of a plot to protect his wealthy and powerful inner circle.

Ooh, A Shiny Coin: Trump's DOJ Fires Maurene Comey!

Trump's DOJ fires Manhattan federal prosecutor who is tied to James Comey.

Every distraction will not erase the anger that the president's most adamant supporters have towards him and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

The Department of Justice have dismissed U.S. District Attorney Maurene Comey.

She is the daughter of former FBI director James Comey.

President Donald J. Trump fired Comey in 2017 shortly after the FBI was launching an investigation into Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn, two of the president's allies for allegedly engaging with the Russian Federation to help him win in 2016.

Comey who has been a private citizen and public critic of the president is also being targeted by the Justice Department after he posted on social media the image of "8647" on social media. Many in MAGAland interpreted it as a threat on Trump.

Comey and James Brenman are being targeted by Trump because they are doing their jobs to hold people accountable.

Now Trump is planning on turning against Bondi, FBI director Kash Patel and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino. They are facing backlash over the Epstein files.

Comey is the prosecutor who oversaw the Jeffrey Epstein case and the Sean "Puffy" Combs trial.

Combs known as Diddy was convicted of prostitution procurement but found not guilty of trafficking and racketeering.

Comey worked like every U.S. Attorney, why was she targeted?

Because Trump hates her dad.

There was no specific reason given for her firing, according to one of the people. They spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity to discuss personnel matters.

Maurene Comey was a veteran lawyer in the Southern District of New York, long considered the most elite of the Justice Department’s prosecution offices. Her cases included the sex trafficking prosecution of Epstein, who killed himself behind bars in 2019 as he was awaiting trial, and the recent case against Combs, which ended earlier this month with a mixed verdict.

She didn’t immediately respond to messages seeking comment Wednesday.

It’s the latest move by the Justice Department to fire lawyers without explanation, which has raised alarm over a disregard for civil service protections designed to prevent terminations for political reasons. The Justice Department has also fired a number of prosecutors who worked on cases that have provoked President Donald Trump’s ire, including some who handled U.S. Capitol riot cases and lawyers and support staff who worked on special counsel Jack Smith’s prosecutions of Trump.

Maurene Comey was long seen as a potential target given her father’s fraught relationship over the last decade with the Republican president. The Justice Department recently appeared to acknowledge the existence of an investigation into James Comey, though the basis for that inquiry is unclear.

Most recently, she was the lead prosecutor among six female prosecutors in the sex trafficking and racketeering case against Combs. The failure to convict the hip-hop mogul of the main charges, while gaining a conviction on prostitution-related charges that will likely result in a prison sentence of just a few years, was viewed by some fellow lawyers as a rare defeat by prosecutors.

But she was successful in numerous other prosecutions, most notably the conviction of Ghislaine Maxwell on sex trafficking charges for helping financier Epstein sexually abuse underage girls. In that case, she delivered a rebuttal argument during closings, as she did in the Combs case.

Her firing comes as Attorney General Pam Bondi faces intense criticism from some members of Trump’s base for the Justice Department’s decision not to release any more evidence in the government’s possession from Epstein’s sex trafficking investigation. Some right-wing internet personalities, like Laura Loomer, who have been critical of Bondi’s handling of the Epstein files had been calling for Maurene Comey’s firing.

James Comey was the FBI director when Trump took office in 2017, having been appointed by then-President Barack Obama and serving before that as a senior Justice Department official in President George W. Bush’s administration. But his relationship with Trump was strained from the start, and the FBI director resisted a request by Trump at a private dinner to pledge personal loyalty to the president — an overture that so unnerved the FBI director that he documented it in a contemporaneous memorandum.

Trump soon after fired Comey amid an investigation into potential ties between Russia and Trump’s presidential campaign. That inquiry, later taken over by special counsel Robert Mueller, would ultimately find that while Russia interfered with the 2016 election and the Trump team welcomed the help, there was insufficient evidence to prove a criminal collaboration.

Trump’s fury at the older Comey continued long after firing him from the bureau, blaming him for a “hoax” and “witch hunt” that shadowed much of his first term.

Comey disclosed contemporaneous memos of his conversations with Trump to a friend so that their content could be revealed to the media, and the following year he published a book calling Trump “ego driven” and likening him to a mafia don. Trump, for his part, has accused Comey and other officials of treason.
