Before the mass shooting in the Oregon District, Dayton marked the destructive tornadoes. It's the second year since the series of dangerous storms pounded Ohio and left a trail of destruction in the city of Dayton.
It happened on Memorial Day (May 27, 2019).
On this day, Dayton, Ohio had a monstrous tornado destroy portion of the city and its neighboring suburbs. The Ef-4 (later confirmed as an Ef-5) tornado ripped through Northwestern Montgomery County and ran a 20 mile path through the county and into neighboring Greene County.
I was working that night when the word got out that there was a "Tornado Emergency" issued for city of Dayton and neighboring communities.
The "Tornado Emergency" is the highest warning in a severe weather event. It warns that a dangerous and powerful funnel cloud has touched down and its impact will destroy buildings and has the potential to be deadly to those who don't take shelter.
It's basically, get your asses to safety now!
I never thought I see the day that a destructive tornado would destroy parts of my community.
The tornado's path began in Brookville before crossing into Englewood, Clayton, Trotwood, Harrison Township, Dayton, Riverside, Wright Patterson Air Force Base and lastly Beavercreek.
Another destructive tornado an Ef2 (later confirmed Ef3) touched down in Vandalia. Other tornadoes touched down in Tipp City, Troy, West Milton and Xenia.
The tornado damage was estimated to be over $3 billion in damages. Ohio governor Karen DeWine had issued a disaster declaration. It took over three days before Washed Up 45 issued a federal disaster on the city of Dayton.
I remember heading to my home and seeing debris throughout parts of the city. I live near the major impact zone and to this day, I literally can see Interstate 75 now because the tree line was completely wiped out.
The tornado picked up steam when it got around the Stillwater River and Great Miami River.

Outgoing mayor and Democratic candidate for governor Nan Whaley has continued to seek funding from the Congress. Back in 2020, Whaley had urged Sen. Karen Portman (R-OH), Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Rep. Karen Turner (R-OH), Rep. Karen Davidson (R-OH) to pass an infrastructure bill.
They failed to do it.
Now we're two years later, Dayton still has tornado damages and Congress is stalling President Joe Biden's America Jobs Plan. The proposal was to get $2.4 trillion into building America's crumbling roads, bridges and homes.
The white nationalist Republicans continue to distract us from a pandemic and the insurrection.
They want us to worry about Hunter Biden's laptop, "imaginary" voter fraud, big tech banning far-right agitators, Americans using the safety net, transgender Americans playing sports and using public restrooms and cancel culture.
The white nationalists have no plans to improve Americans of walks of life. They rather let a washed up politician and reality television personality control their party and platform.
Dayton will rise hopefully again!
