Yaphet Frederick Kotto passed away on Monday in Manila, the Philippines.
The 81-year old actor retired from acting in 2014. He was living in the Philippines with his third wife Tessie Sinahon.
The cause of death was not confirmed.
He had been an actor since the 1960s and remained steady into the 1990s.
He played a pimp and villain Harvard Blue in Truck Turner.
He played chief engineer Parker in the horror/sci-fi movie Alien.

Yaphet had career that spanned throughout his years. Standing at 6'4'' he was a towering figure in the movies and on television. He was born in New York City in 1939. His mother was Gladys Marie, an American nurse and U.S. Army officer of Panamanian and West Indian descent. His father Avraham Kotto was a businessman from Cameroon who came to the United States in 1920s.
His father was Jewish. His mother and him converted to Judaism.
Kotto began acting at the age of 16 studying at Actors Mobile Theater Studio and at the age of 19, he began his acting debut in Othello. He would do acting on Broadway with The Great White Hope and many other productions.
He got an uncredited role in the 1963 movie 4 For Texas. He performed in Michael Roemer's Nothing But a Man and played a supporting role in The Thomas Crown Affair. He also had a role on the CBS police drama Hawaii Five-O.
He would also have a music single out there. The single Have You Ever Seen The Blues/ Have You Dug His Scene on China Records.
In 1973, he landed the role of movie villain, Mr. Big in the James Bond thriller Live and Let Die.
He would also have numerous roles in the 1970s like Truck Turner, Raid on Entebbe, Across 110th Street and Blue Collar.
The biggest movie franchise besides James Bond was the Alien franchise. He had a role in the movie.
His best known role on television is Homicide: Life on The Street. He played Lt. Al Giardello.
Many in the entertainment industry have praised Yaphet for his acting and his humbleness.
Yaphet was a lifelong Republican and he endorsed Washed 45 in a lengthy post on his social media.
Yaphet leaves behind a large family. His first marriage was to a German immigrant, Rita Ingrid Dittman, whom he married in 1959. They had three children together before divorcing in 1976. Later, he married Toni Pettyjohn, and they also had three children together, before divorcing in 1989. Kotto married his third wife, Tessie Sinahon, who is from the Philippines, in 1998.
