As expected, the departure of Anna Faris lead to CBS and Warner Bros. pulling the plug on the sitcom Mom. The series had starred Faris and Allison Janney in a mother-daughter relationship strained from years of drug and alcohol abuse. Faris played Christy Plunkett, a single mother of two trying to rebuild her bond with her estranged mother played by Janney. The show was a hit and its was considered a spin-off from Two and a Half Men, a series where Faris had a brief role.

Janney won Emmys for her role as Bonnie Plunkett.

Chuck Lorre confirmed that the series will end after Season 8 in May. The series was expected to finish up its 22-episode series run. Nick Bakay and Gemma Baker also confirmed the news through their pressers.

"For the past eight years, we've had the great honor to bring these wonderful characters to life, sharing their struggles and triumphs with millions of viewers every week. From the beginning, we set out to tell stories about recovery from alcoholism and addiction that are rarely portrayed in a network comedy series."

The cast continued on with Janney, Beth Hall, Kristen Johnston, Jaime Pressly and Mimi Kennedy.

The show focused on Bonnie's marriage to Adam who is played by William Fichtner.

The ladies of Mom were caught off guard by the news.

In late October, three weeks before filming was to begin, Faris made the sudden announcement of departing from the show. It led to the series rewriting Faris' role out.

The Chuck Lorre universe included the hit comedy The Big Bang Theory which ended its run in 2020.

Two and a Half Men, Dharma & Greg, Grace Under Fire, Mike & Molly, B+Positive, Disjointed, Cybill, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Bob Hearts Abishola, Mom, United States of Al and The Kominsky Method come from the Lorre universe.
