The world's richest billionaire is stepping down as CEO of the world's largest shopping and media conglomerate. Jeff Bezos is stepping down from Amazon and it shook the industry.

Bezos is the world's richest man. Amazon is by far one of the most productive companies in the world.

On Tuesday, Bezos announced he would step down as the CEO of the company to become an executive chair of the company,

Bezos started Amazon 27 years ago and built the company from a mere web service to the large conglomerate it is now.

He said that Andy Jassy will take the helms of the Amazon in July. He was the chief executive or the Amazon Web Services. That web service severed ties with far-right media platform Parler in the aftermath of the U.S. Capitol Chaos.

In his memo to employees, Bezos said the transition will give him"the time and energy I need to focus on the Day 1 Fun, the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, The Washington Post and my other passions."

Bezos' ex-wife MacKenzie Scott Bezos also announced she will donate $4 billion in her fortune for charities.

Bezos often was vilified by former president Donald J. Trump. The former president often wanted to punish Bezos because of The Washington Post's coverage of him.

Bezos has a net worth of $200 billion and is either tied or second with British-American billionaire Elon Musk for the most richest person in the world.

His real name is Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen. He was born In Albuquerque, lived in Houston but grew up in Miami. He studied computer science and engineering. He founded Amazon in 1994 on a cross country trip from Seattle to New York City. It first started as an online bookstore but now expanded to ecommerce, video streaming, audio streaming, cloud computing, online sales and artificial intelligence.
