President Joe Biden announced in November his pick for the Attorney General and he vows to make the U.S. Justice Department independent agency and not the White House's personal lawyer.
Garland is counting on the Democrats, Sen. Angus King (I-ME), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Vice President Kamala Harris to officially confirm him to the position. It's likely that Garland will not get much support from the Republican minority.
The Republicans denied Garland a hearing when then president Barack Obama was expected to get his third Supreme Court nominee. Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), then Majority Leader denied Garland the opportunity to sit on the highest court of the land.
McConnell lost his majority when he decided to side with Trump. He rammed through Trump's three Supreme Court nominees despite denying Obama his nominee. The nominee Amy Coney Barrett was rammed through in less than 20 days.

Garland was held up for 294 days. Now as an appointee for the U.S. Justice Department, Garland was held up for 55 days. Now today as the Democrats are in control of the Senate, Biden's cabinet picks will finally get a chance to be confirmed.
Now with the Supreme Court bitterly divided with a 6-3 majority for conservatives, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Neil Gorsuch will be the swing votes. Yes, Gorsuch, the Justice who was picked by Trump has sided with the progressive wing on some occasions.
Garland was a political moderate and would have been a great benefit to the Court. Alas, McConnell, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and the Republicans keep the bullshit running.
