Madeleine Albright, an iconic secretary of state passed away.
A true American diplomat and one of the world's most respected has passed away.
Madeleine Albright passed away from terminal cancer. President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton, James Baker, Condoleezza Rice, Henry Kissinger and John Kerry, former presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and George W. Bush, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Congress were informed.
I did not mention Washed Up 45 or his former Secretaries of State because they would not offer any remarks on any passing of any influential political leader (unless it's an insult).
Albright, who fled the Nazis as a child in her native Czechoslovakia during World War Two then rose to become the first female U.S. secretary of state and, in her later years, a pop culture feminist icon, died on Wednesday at the age of 84.
Her family announced her death on Twitter and said she had died of cancer. Leaders, diplomats and academics remembered her as a trailblazer on the world stage.
Albright served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 1993-1997 in U.S. President Bill Clinton's administration. He then nominated her to become the first female secretary of state and she served in that role from 1997-2001.
"Madeleine Albright was a force. She defied convention and broke barriers again and again," U.S. President Joe Biden said. He directed U.S. flags be flown at half-staff at the White House and government buildings, including embassies, until March 27.
She was a tough-talking diplomat in an administration that hesitated to involve itself in the two biggest foreign policy crises of the 1990s - the genocides in Rwanda and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
She once upset a Pentagon chief by asking why the military maintained more than 1 million men and women under arms if they never used them.
The plain-spoken Albright took a tough line on a 1996 incident where Cuban jet fighters downed two unarmed U.S.-based planes, saying: "This is not cojones, this is cowardice," using a Spanish vulgarity meaning "testicles."
While at the United Nations, where Security Council members stood in silence on Wednesday to honor her memory, she pressed for a tougher line against the Serbs in Bosnia after Bosnian Serb military forces laid siege to the capital Sarajevo.
During Clinton's first term, many of his administration's top foreign policy experts did not want to get involved because they vividly remembered how the United States became bogged down in Vietnam.
In 1995, Bosnian Serb soldiers overran three Moslem enclaves, Srebrenica, Gorazde and Zepa, and massacred more than 8,000 people.
The United States responded by working with NATO on airstrikes that forced an end to the war but only after it had been going on for three years.
Albright's experience as a refugee prompted her to push for the United States to use its superpower clout. She wanted a "muscular internationalism," said James O'Brien, a senior adviser to Albright during the Bosnian war.
Early in the Clinton administration, while she unsuccessfully advocated for a quicker, stronger response in Bosnia, Albright backed a U.N. war crimes tribunal that eventually put the architects of that war, including Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and Bosnian Serb leaders, in jail, O'Brien said.
The painful lessons learned in Rwanda and Bosnia served the United States well in Kosovo, when Washington saw the more powerful Serbs begin a program of ethnic cleansing of ethnic Albanians. NATO responded with an 11-week campaign of air strikes in 1999 that extended to Belgrade.
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani said on Wednesday she was “deeply shocked by the loss of Kosovo's great friend,” adding that the intervention "gave us hope, when we did not have it."
During efforts to press North Korea to end its nuclear weapons program, which were eventually unsuccessful, Albright traveled to Pyongyang in 2000 to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, becoming the highest ranking U.S. official to visit the secretive Communist-run country at the time.
Reuters describes her as a feminist heroine.
Once the Clinton years and the 1990s were over, Albright became an icon to a generation of young women looking for inspiration in their quest for opportunity and respect in the workplace. Albright was fond of saying: "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help each other."
Albright was a marked contrast to her predecessors and male colleagues in uniform suits. She used clothes and jewelry to send tart, political messages. One favorite was a snake brooch, a reference to Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein calling her an "unparalleled serpent."
Téa Leoni had Hillary Clinton, Colin Powell and Madeleine Albright on Madam Secretary.
She wrote a book about her signature jewelry, one of several bestsellers, explaining that the pins were a diplomatic tool. Balloons or flower pins would indicate she felt optimistic, while a crab or turtle would indicate frustration.
Born Marie Jana Korbelova in Prague on May 15, 1937, her family fled in 1939 to London when Germany occupied Czechoslovakia. She attended school in Switzerland at age 10 and adopted the name Madeleine.
She was raised a Roman Catholic but after she became secretary of state, the Washington Post dug up documentation showing that her family was Jewish and relatives, including three grandparents, died in the Holocaust. Her parents likely converted to Catholicism from Judaism to avoid persecution as Nazism gained strength in Europe, the paper reported.
After the war, the family left London and returned to Czechoslovakia, then in the throes of a communist takeover.
Her father, a diplomat and academic who opposed communism, moved the family to the United States where he taught international studies at the University of Denver. One of his favorite students was Condoleezza Rice, who would become the second female secretary of state in 2005 under Republican President George W. Bush.
"It is quite remarkable that this Czech émigré professor has trained two secretaries of state," Albright told the New York Times in 2006.
Albright attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts, and got a doctorate from Columbia University. She became fluent or close to it in six languages including Czech, French, Polish and Russian as well as English.
In 1959, she married newspaper heir Joseph Medill Patterson Albright, whom she met while working at the Denver Post, and they had three daughters. They divorced in 1982.
She followed her father into academia but also became involved in Democratic Party politics. Albright joined the staff of Senator Edmund Muskie, a Maine Democrat, in 1976 and two years later became a member of President Jimmy Carter's National Security Council staff.
Since leaving the Clinton administration, she has written a series of books. One, "Hell and Other Destinations," was published in April 2020. Others include her autobiography, "Madam Secretary: A Memoir" (2003) and "Read My Pins: Stories from a Diplomat’s Jewel Box" (2009).
The plain-spoken Albright made forays into popular culture. "Parks and Recreation" star Amy Poehler's character had a picture of Albright in her office.
In 2005, the "Gilmore Girls" television series the character Rory dreamt that Albright, wearing a red suit and an eagle pin, was her mother.
In 2018, she and fellow former secretaries of state Colin Powell and Hillary Clinton briefed a fictional secretary of state in "Madam Secretary," a TV drama where she spoke passionately about the dangers of abusive nationalism.
Conor Lamb will be the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania's open U.S. Senate seat.
This is going to be an interesting race in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Republicans and Democrats must select their nominee for the U.S. Senate race. I am going to strongly endorse Rep. Conor Lamb (D-PA) over Pennsylvania Lieutenant governor John Fetterman and former state senator Malcolm Kenyetta.
If Lamb becomes the nominee, he will face off against likely former TV doctor Mehmet Oz, who decided to carpetbag his way into the U.S. Senate race. Oz is a registered Republican and a conspiracy nut who panders in junk science and false cures. He was one of Oprah Winfrey's most notable successes besides Gayle King, Dr. Phil McGraw, Rachael Ray and Iyanla Vanzant.
The leftists are once again betting the farm on a candidate that Republicans view as their perfect scapegoat. In a swing state like Pennsylvania, Democrats need a strong contender.
President Joe Biden's popularity is tanking but given that Republicans are desperate to win, they'll rely on culture wars and distractions to win. They need a polarizing figure like John Fetterman.
The Bernie Bro became Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania after beating incumbent Mike Stack. This is Fetterman's second time running for U.S. Senate. He failed to become the nominee in 2016. Now in 2022, he is hoping to win with the help of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and white leftists. They are touting a poll saying Fetterman is in the lead.
Now they are saying that Fetterman could win. But we heard that story back when they thought the leftists would have won the open seat for Ohio's 11th congressional district, Louisiana's 2nd congressional district and Buffalo's mayor race.
The news of a Fetterman lead comes shortly after Bernie Bro agitator Daniel Marans wrote his latest hit piece for HuffPost. It touts a polls from a SuperPac endorsing Lamb showing him trailing Fetterman.
Fetterman is 52 years old and is a first term lieutenant governor. He was mayor of the borough of Braddock from 2006 until 2009. He towers at 6'9".
Marans, a leftist writes for HuffPost has been promoting candidates like Nina Turner, India Walton and now Fetterman in attempt to promote a white leftist agenda. Marans is a crappy opinion writer and a shithead at the highest degree.
It may not be a big deal to leftists but John Fetterman's attire shows that he lacks seriousness. Conor Lamb takes his job as a lawmaker seriously. The two are the top tier candidates.
Last year, I said that Blacks will decide who will win the race between Turner and Shontel Brown. I said Blacks and moderates will decide who will win the race between Buffalo mayor Byron Brown and Walton.
I predicted that Shontel Brown will upset Turner despite all the hype from Marans and the leftists. The Intercept, The Daily Beast, HuffPost, Jacobin and The Young Turks were heavily promoting Turner and Walton.
How I enjoyed watching the white leftists lose their shit over Brown beating Turner.
White leftists were online trolling and sowing discourse. Each one of them throwing the claims that the Democratic opponent was going to jail or has corruption under their belt.
See what these leftists are failing to understand is that Fetterman is actually the candidate the far right wants as the nominee. At first I believed that Kenyatta was going to be the weakest. Kenyatta is a Black openly gay and progressive state lawmaker. Black men who are religious and lean conservative are not willing to endorse a gay Black man.
Interesting news nugget here: Despite trailing Fetterman in fundraising as of last disclosure, Lamb is outspending him heavily on TV this week. pic.twitter.com/76y5532Ixu
— Candidly Tiff: Establishment Dem (@tify330) March 23, 2022
This is the Bernie bro playbook, used by Bernie, Nina, and now Fetterman, be the 1st to enter the race, get your friends in the media to write glowing articles, when moderate enters race have those same journo bros write scathing oppo articles, tout early polls, then LOSE BIGLY. https://t.co/fQpAAnpgiRpic.twitter.com/WojwGqhivQ
If Fetterman becomes the nominee you will gift the seat to the GOP. Black voters aren’t going to support a racist vigilante. Any article that doesn’t mention this isn’t worth reading. https://t.co/GV6H48rh7a
Fetterman is a walking toxic waste dump. There is a story about him pulling a firearm on a Black man. This is his second time at running for higher office. Like Turner, Fetterman creeped into the scene as a local government worker. He would soon become a voice for the Sanders campaign. Sanders endorsed Fetterman in his first run for the Senate and I expect him to endorse him again.
The pulling a gun on a Black man will be his downfall. He claims that it was a huge misunderstanding and should not merit his policies.
Fetterman defended his actions in pursuing a man in 2013 and pulling a shotgun on him because he believed the man, who turned out to be an unarmed Black jogger, had been involved in a shooting.
While Fetterman has long said he didn’t know the man’s race, the incident was thrust back in the spotlight by his announcement Monday that he’s running for the U.S. Senate.
Fetterman was the mayor of Braddock when he said he heard gunshots not far from his home, then saw someone running from the area. Fetterman said he called the police, pursued the man, and said in a TV interview at the time that he confronted him with a gun to stop him from fleeing before police arrived. An officer who responded to reports of gunfire searched the man, Christopher Miyares, and found he was unarmed, according to a 2013 police report.
The incident drew relatively little attention in 2016, when Fetterman lost his first Senate run in the Democratic primary. But it has lingered in the years since, with a news report about it by Pittsburgh’s ABC affiliate circulating on social media, and in political circles among Fetterman critics.
With Sen. Karen Toomey (R-PA) retiring, the Democrats believe this could be an easy pick up. They just need a candidate who doesn't have controversy.
However, it's a difficult challenge to get the Democrats out to the polls. With Republicans determined to make harder to vote, plus their obsession with the southern border, inflation and high gas prices, the Republicans see this as their key to victory. Biden and Democrats need to acknowledge that Republicans, Sen. Karen Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Karen Sinema (D-AZ) will not work to get things done. These lawmakers are destructive to the country and Biden needs to keep the focus on them. We need to focus on trying to build the majority and keep focused on making sure that Republicans are held accountable for stalling Build Back Better.
Lamb is the only candidate to pull an upset in a heavily Republican district. The former Republican Tim Murphy left Congress after a sex scandal. Lamb has never lost an election since. He is only 37 and serves as an active reserve for the U.S. Army. He takes his job seriously and isn't trying to bring a circus to Pennsylvania.
He votes with Biden 100% of the time. He voted with Washed Up 45 only 20% of the time.
Pennsylvania Democrats, the choice is clear. Vote for Conor Lamb.
The 50 Senators in the Republican conference and the two Democrats in their caucus are white nationalists and enablers of white supremacy.
One dopey Midwest senator opens his mouth and let's out his foghorn.
Sen. Karen Braun (R-IN) believed that Loving v. Virginia was a mistake. That was a landmark decision that ended state laws bans on interracial marriage.
Here’s Senator Mike Braun saying that interracial marriage should be left up to the states. Its the year 2022 and a Republican senator is saying this.
— A Grand Romance (Kate) (@AGrandRomance) March 22, 2022
.@SenatorBraun thought it was wrong for the Supreme Court to legalize interracial marriages in Loving v. Virginia. Just like this Nazi (who got 56,000 votes or 26% in the 2018 Illinois Congressional race). Republicans are a danger to liberty.#GOPRacistspic.twitter.com/nrH2XuPHGa
While speaking to the Northwest Indiana Times, Braun on a conference call with Indiana reporters, unambiguously declared his belief that many of the high court's key civil rights decisions of the past 70 years were wrongly decided and an improper usurpation of states' rights.
Braun initially limited his claim to the national right to abortion established by the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision he hopes the current, more conservative, Supreme Court will overturn in coming months when it rules in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.
But, when asked by The Times, Braun admitted there are many Supreme Court decisions he believes improperly established federal rights that would be better handled on a state-by-state basis, including Loving v. Virginia that legalized interracial marriage, and Griswold v. Connecticut (1965) establishing a right to privacy concerning contraceptive use.
"You can list a whole host of issues," Braun said. "When it comes down to whatever they are, I'm going to say they're not going to all make you happy within a given state. But we're better off having states manifest their points of view, rather than homogenizing it across the country as Roe v. Wade did."
When asked about interracial marriage, he rejected the reasoning of a unanimous Supreme Court that the freedom to marry is a fundamental constitutional right and states depriving Americans of it on an arbitrary basis, such as race is unconstitutional.
He acknowledged leaving the question to the states where they can make a decision on whether marriage is recognized in the state. He said it was "the beauty of the system."
Fucking idiot.
I am guessing he's taking aim at Ketanji Brown Jackson's husband. She is Black and her husband is white.
This is common theme among the far-right, hoteps (Black nationalists/Black chauvinists) and white nationalists. The theme is to disrespect Black women for dating outside their race. Chastise them for marrying white men and making light of how Black women are(in the words of "pseudo-racialist Tariq Nasheed) "bed wrenches" for not embracing Black men.
Braun's remarks drew a strong backlash. It was roundly condemned.
Braun walked back the remarks after he took heat. Given that this Midterm election is the focus of Republicans regaining power, these idiots saying the quiet parts out loud is certainly going to bring the focus back to the insurrection and the white nationalism these idiot lawmakers are embracing.
"Le me be clear on [the Loving v. Virginia decision] --- there is no question the Constitution prohibits discrimination of any kind based on race, that is not something that is even up for debate, and I condemn racism in any form, at all levels and by any states, entities or individuals," Braun said.
Republicans are so fucking clueless when it comes to the world. They are so emboldened with this notion to "own the libs" set the bar high for those who aren't white Christian male.
Washed Up 45's favorite network covering his rallies won't do it on YouTube.
The propaganda platform that covers most of Washed Up 45's rallies got a suspension on YouTube. It could be soon banned from Twitter, DailyMotion and Facebook Watch if it continues to push misinformation.
The tech industry is trying to crack down on misinformation and violent content.
Right Side Broadcast Network is a controversial platform. Since 2015, it's been covering the Washed Up 45 rallies and often allows the former president to push propaganda.
BREAKING: @RSBNetwork announced YouTube has suspended them and they will move ALL live coverage to Rumble for President Donald J. Trump's rally this Saturday in Georgia.
The last time this happened, RSBN almost crashed our servers. Let's try to do that again 🥳 https://t.co/ZCmKEV3bki
RSBN has been suspended from YouTube for two weeks, with live streaming and the ability to upload new videos revoked.
YouTube has also removed the video from their platform, which at last check was approaching nearly four million views.
According to YouTube, this is due to our video of President Trump’s speech at CPAC, which violated their policies on election misinformation.
Any further violations may result in the permanent suspension of our YouTube channel, which has amassed over 1.5 million subscribers.
Of course many of these folks believe they're being censored. Unfortunately, they're not being censored.
Google, Meta and Twitter are businesses and they have the right to dictate who and what should be on their platforms. Since the Jan. 6, 2021 incident, social media is strongly cracking down on bullshit propaganda.
Just this month, the U.S. formally disabled the RT network because of the Russian-funded network's relentless misinformation push. RT America shuts down after 10 years of broadcasting. You can't view RT videos on YouTube, Facebook and DailyMotion anymore. You can still see them on Rumble for the time being.
I remember mentioning about how Congress is willing to define "safety" at the risk of everything else.
Congress is steadfast in trying to pass controversial legislations that "protect" children from content that could be considered dangerous.
I am going to remind myself of Codename: Kids Next Door and the episode S.A.F.E.T.Y.
A bumbling lawmaker gets billions of dollars from a legislation to create Safety Robots to prevent children from getting harmed. The robots rebel against adults and vow to take over the world through "safety measures." It's up to Numbuh 2, Numbuh 4 and 4's little brother to save the world.
Congress often do stupid laws for the sake of children. That's why all the broadcast networks eliminated Saturday Morning Cartoons. It's because of the Children's Television Act, a controversial law that required networks to add educational program to lineups. The CW was the final network to end Saturday Morning Cartoons. Now every network has some form of morning news, national news, educational programs and paid advertising on the Saturday and Sunday morning schedules.
If you want to stomach these god awful rallies and the crap coming out of the former president's mouth, watch the Rumble videos. I stress you need to take discretion in viewing these videos.
This is the second bout of the coronavirus for the White House Press Secretary.
I love them Psaki Bombs. This woman handles the press corp like a boss.
Jen Psaki, the feisty White House Press Secretary who often clashes with Fox, Newsmax, The Intercept and OANN announced she will not be heading to Belgium with President Joe Biden.
She tested positive for the coronavirus.
Today, in preparation for travel to Europe, I took a PCR test this morning. That test came back positive, which means I will be adhering to CDC guidance and no longer be traveling on the President’s trip to Europe.
Thanks to the vaccine, I have only experienced mild symptoms. In alignment with White House COVID-19 protocols, I will work from home and plan to return to work in person at the conclusion of a five-day isolation period and a negative test.
The president is expected to head to NATO in Brussels, Belgium and then Warsaw, Poland. He will discuss the matter involving Ukraine and Russia.
Biden tested negative for the coronavirus.
Psaki tweeted on Tuesday that she took a laboratory test for COVID-19 in preparation for the trip, which was underway on Wednesday, and was later notified of a positive result.
Psaki had two socially distanced meetings with the president on Monday and was not considered in close contact with her under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She shared the news "out of an abundance of transparency."
Biden, First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris had recently been tested after Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff tested positive for the coronavirus.
She was not able to travel with the president when he went to Scotland (United Kingdom) and Italy when she first tested positive for the coronavirus in 2021.
Just because the United States has eased up on the coronavirus mandates and regulations doesn't mean that the pandemic is over. We have lost over 1 million Americans to the coronavirus. If things were normal, this would have been less than 100 if Washed Up 45 would have taken the threat seriously.
Hell, he would have easily won his bid for a second term had he took the pandemic seriously.
Now it's tasked to President Joe Biden. He continues to push for vaccinations and following the CDC rules when testing positive for the coronavirus.
The funding for the coronavirus pandemic prevention is running out of funds. The Congress is not willing to push for more funding given that Republicans in the House and Senate as well as the two white nationalists in the Democratic caucus refusing to spend more money on preventions. They're willing to spend a lifetime to help Ukraine but never a dime for the needy here in the United States.
Biden thought Americans would take this shit seriously. Alas, they ain't willing to do it.
The pandemic is part of the culture wars. This war is costing lives. Thousands of Americans have tested positive each day of the week. Over 1,000 to 5,000 Americans have died from the coronavirus a day.
These folks not willing to get vaccinated, nor willing to take appropriate steps to prevent infection are the causalities of this culture war.
Folks like myself don't empathize with them. I refuse to. I am tired of dealing with people who think their only way to feel good about themselves is to "own the libs" or stop "wokism."
Of course, there's folks who are fully vaccinated but end up getting the coronavirus. As with vaccines, nothing is 100%. The vaccines are capable of preventing the coronavirus. At best, it's a 94% prevention rate which means 1 out of 500 could be infected even if they're vaccinated.
Republicans so fucking eager to return to power will keep Americans fixated on the culture wars. Now vaccinations are part of this culture war.
We came so far only have a bunch of selfish idiots set it back. Just because they hate President Joe Biden.
The Republicans are so devoted to destroying Biden and the country for what....to regain power.
Pathetic.
The coronavirus doesn't care about your age, race, gender, sexuality, nationality, religion, politics, economic or social standings. It doesn't care about your business, your performances, your personal finances and travel. It doesn't care about the funerals, the birthday parties, the weddings, the vacations, the events and your graduations. It doesn't care about anything. It's a living organism that causes mild symptoms that include: fever, sore throats, chills, respiratory issues, loss of taste or smell and other unknown symptoms. If you have a weak immune system or health issues, your risk increases.
Death does happen to at least 40% of those who are affected by COVID-19.
If you're not vaccinated, your chances of death increases to 48%.
Healthy people can die from this. Take this seriously. You only have one life!
If you need more information, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at cdc.gov.
The Republicans act like she ain't taking this position seriously.
The second day of hearings for Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson. The senators each get a turn of addressing the federal judge questions about her record, her family and her future on the bench.
As expected, we are to hear nonsense from the far-right members of the Senate.
It's things that you never hear them use against a white woman or a white man.
Jackson doesn't have any allegations of sexual assault but a handful of these senators are going to complain about her sentencing of a convicted individual when it comes to child pornography.
Jackson is a mother of two daughters, yet these senators are trying to ram the notion that she is a supporter of critical race theory.
Jackson doesn't have a criminal record (probably traffic tickets), but to the Republicans, she's soft on crime.
Sen. John Cornyn claimed he wasn’t 'arguing the merits or lack of merits of same-sex marriage' while questioning Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson over her views of the Supreme Court’s role in policymaking…but it sounds like he is. Watch the exchange 🤔 pic.twitter.com/oTPJjKcl7k
Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson takes a moment to gather her thoughts after Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) asks her if she believes babies are racist. pic.twitter.com/h9GcxHYcrd
The same Republicans who are saying KBJ is an unqualified affirmative action pick are the same people who voted for Amy Coney Barrett. The lady who had never argued a case and who didn’t know the freedoms awarded to us in the First Amendment pic.twitter.com/x6uQ6HkDNJ
She was confirmed last year to the U.S. Court of Appeals in 2021. She's been a federal judge for nearly a decade but these fucking idiots in the Senate are trying to look at her as angry Black woman.
The Republican Party's social media team already facing criticism for a dog whistle tweet.
This is what the Republican Party has resorted to. Calling a federal judge who has a pretty decent record and a professional career, a woman who soft on crime, soft on child predators and an enabler of critical race theory seems like kind of racially charged.
Nonetheless, these Supreme Court hearings are usually long, boring, and quite normal in the processing of a federal judge to sit on the highest court in the land. A handful of these fucking idiot Republicans are considering a run for office.
What better way for them to earn their stripes than to toss red meat to a Black woman!
A Virginia journalist is among those killed in a senseless act of gun violence in the city of Norfolk. The state's third largest city and heart of the Hampton Roads metropolitan area is the scene of a weekend shooting.
The Norfolk Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead and four others injured.
A tweet from police said that they got a call that there had been a shooting on the 300 block of Granby Street at 1:55 a.m. on Saturday morning.
When they arrived, they found a man who had died at the scene.
Sierra Jenkins, a reporter for the Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press was killed outside a Granby Street bar.
The 25-year old reporter would be usually on scene to cover news for the region.
Tragically she became the news. A young Black woman who wanted to do good for the community by telling the stories about Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News and Williamsburg.
Devon Harris was a semi-pro football star.
The man who died on the scene has been identified as 25-year-old Devon M. Harris of Portsmouth.
Two additional men were also taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for injuries that weren't life-threatening.
“We continue to have these senseless shootings, all across America, but more importantly here at home in Norfolk," said Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander.
Police are still investigating what led to it. They have not yet said anything about a suspect.
Norfolk Commonwealth's Attorney Ramin Fatehi told 13News Now that to his knowledge, there is no immediate threat to the public.
Fatehi's office will be prosecuting the case. He said this shooting is the byproduct of a national gun violence epidemic.
“We need to remember that alcohol, guns and crowds do not mix. If you intend to go out, if you intend to drink, leave your gun at home. Do not put yourself in a position to make a decision that would cost somebody their lives, by costing them their lives, costing them your life and your freedom," Fatehi said.
Our records show that, in the past year, five separate shootings led to 13 people shot between the 200 and 700 blocks on Granby Street.
Mayor Alexander said Norfolk is involved with ongoing programs and initiatives to the curb violence citywide for the long and short term.
"It's something that we need to address together and find solutions together," he said. And he admits more needs to be done.
Mayor Alexander is calling for additional lighting and security cameras on Granby, as well as a step up in enforcement and police presence.
Sierra Jenkins reported the news. Tragically she became the news.
He also wants to look at more data, "and then if the data proves to be that the character of a business contributes to certain types of violence in the city, I would ask council to look at that and maybe to reduce the hours."
Fatehi said he action also needs to take place at the national and state levels.
Locally, anti-violence activists like Bilal Muhammad of Stop the Violence Team are trying to forge change.
"Don't let our ideas lead us into violence," he pleaded.
Muhammad's group is especially focused on getting youth involved and engaged.
"We need to bring about a peaceful coalition and understanding with one another," he said.
Governor Youngkin issued a statement about the incident along Granby Street:
"Our hearts are breaking for the lives lost in Norfolk, including Sierra Jenkins. The First Lady and I are praying for their families, friends, and the Virginian-Pilot community."
Lt. Governor Winsome Sears also put out a statement:
"We are heartbroken over the senseless loss of life. Our prayers for the families and loved ones of those killed last night in Norfolk, including Virginian- Pilot reporter, Sierra Jenkins #condolences"
At this time, the names of the other victims have not been released.
This is an ongoing investigation. Norfolk leaders urge that if you have any information that can help police, contact the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit an anonymous online tip here.
Who deserves the blame for the rise in crime in the United States?
Every community in the United States will eventually have a legacy. A legacy of tragedy. Gun violence and COVID-19 will affect your town, your family and your life. So I don't want to hear that bullshit about how gun reform is taking away your rights to own firearms.
I don't want to hear that protesting against police killing people of color is hate on cops in general. I don't want to hear talk about the coronavirus being a myth. When you hear folks say "gun rights," what they really mean is that its white privilege.
I don't want to hear folks say masks and vaccine mandates impede their freedoms. It prevents a deadly outbreak from spreading. If you want to die from the coronavirus, that's on you.
Norfolk mayor vows to stop gun violence.
I don't want to hear the shit about guns saving lives. Cause a bullet does not have eyes and it's always likely gonna hit a target. These folks seem to not get it. These incidents are a tragic part of American history.
The website Officer Down is a memorial to those who were killed in the line of duty. Those who don't get their names mentioned in the junk food media. Also the website the National Gun Violence Memorial also keeps record of the many individuals killed by gun violence.

GUN VIOLENCE IS THE NUMBER ONE PROBLEM IN THE UNITED STATES!
It appears that the Kenosha Police haven't learned their lesson. The very same community that allowed a white cop shoot Jacob Blake, leaving him paralyzed. The same community that allowed a white nationalist to shoot three protesters walk free like he's a hero. A damn shame that Wisconsin is still dealing with this shit.
There was an incident that involved an off-duty cop pressing his knee on the neck of a 12-year old girl at Lincoln Middle School. The cop, Shawn Guetschow resigned but still faces an investigation into why he would put his goddamn knee on the neck of a girl. Given that George Floyd's death set off a wave of protest and calls for justice, why on earth is the cops still using that move.
They learned this move from the Israeli government. The Israeli government has trained police officers in the United States on how to deal with suspects in a brutal way. The knee on the neck is usually used when the Israeli police and military forces remove protesters and families from their homes to clear way for the establishment of settlements in the West Bank.
The U.S. is given these techniques to handle unrest. The law never used these moves on the trucker protesters. They never used these moves on Washed Up 45 supporters who threaten to harm individuals who don't support the former president. They don't use these moves on the insurrectionists. They only use these moves on Black suspects and protests against police shootings.
The very same fools who complain about President Joe Biden being responsible for crime are the same ones who won't keep semi-automatic firearms out the hands of terrorists. The very same folks who play on culture wars and distractions to ignore their failure to handle criminality. They often use the word "crime" in their Lee Atwater playbook.
Kenosha is no different. The county sheriff is a Republican. The county voted for Washed Up 45 twice.
Anyway, Kenosha Police are distancing themselves from this.
Police say the department has watched a video clip and have seen a photo that has been "widely shared on social media" over the weekend regarding the incident. This a 6 grader from Lincoln Middle School in Kenosha Unified School District
Newly released footage from the Kenosha Unified School District shows the beginning, middle and end of the lunch room fight that resulted in 37-year-old officer Shawn Guetschow placing a 12-year-old student in a knee chokehold restraint. Story forthcoming. pic.twitter.com/jT2I4GujLY
The Kenosha Unified School District released a redacted video of the lunch hour fight between students and the subsequent chokehold.
The father Jerrel Perez, the girl's father, has called for the school to release the footage. He demands that the cop be charged with criminal assault. The state of Wisconsin outlawed chokeholds last year.
The incident started when Perez's daughter was confronted by another student. She pushes the other student and the brawl begins. Almost immediately, Guetschow, 37, pulls the other student off Perez's daughter, before falling to the ground and striking his head on the cafeteria table.
Then the cop restrains the Perez's daughter by pushing her head into the ground and placing her in a chokehold restraint for roughly 25 seconds, using his knee on the girl's neck. The officer then handcuffs the girl and walks her out the cafeteria.
There is a lawsuit pending against the city police, the district and the cop. The attorney speaking on behalf of Perez's daughter said that the incident left a stain on the community and traumatized the girl.
The cop resigned from his job as security for the school district. The school district did ban him from property.
In a letter he blasted the school district for lack of support and the incident sparked death threats towards him and his family.
"Given the events that have taken place and the escalated attention this incident at Lincoln Middle School has caused in the community, mental and emotional strain it has brought upon my family, and the lack of communication and or support I have received from the district, I can no longer continue my employment with the Kenosha Unified School District."
He still works for the Kenosha Police. The police have not launched an investigation into him but they have placed him on administrative leave pending an outcome from the state if they're a possible grand jury hearing.
So I ask you this question.... Would you want this done to your child?
NBCUniversal announces that Maury is coming to an end.
The iconic statements from Maury Povich.
1. You are the father!
2. You are not the father!
3. That was a lie!
4. He/she is telling the truth!
5. In the case of _______ year old, _________, .... (see 1 and 2).
After 31 seasons and thousands of guests, celebrities and controversy, The Maury [Povich] Show is coming to an end.
The longtime daytime host and founding member of trash television is retiring from the show he made very popular in the mid-1990s. Like his friend, Jerry Springer, Maury was at first a typical talk show with serious discussions and engaging topics. At the verge of cancellation, Povich made the decision to do segments about single mothers and their search for the real father. It became a ratings success.
His show is famous for the DNA tests for single mothers trying to find the exact father of their children. Also included is the infidelity of couples who believe one is cheating.
Memorable moments on Maury.
He also had extreme events caught on camera, talented children with special needs, and who's really a woman or a transgender. The segments are packaged in a 60 minute show.
In a statement through NBCUniversal on Monday, Povich shared that he was ready to step down from his hosting duties six years ago until NBCUniversal representatives asked to continue hosting his show for a few more seasons.
"Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show," Povich said in his statement.
"Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I'm so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the "Maury" show, but as I occasionally tell my guests on 'Maury,' 'Enough, already!'"
In a separate statement, NBCUniversal Syndication Studios executive vice president Tracie Wilson noted that she and Povich agreed two years ago that the 2021-22 season would be his last.
"Maury and I decided two years ago that this season would be the farewell season for the show, and while his retirement is bittersweet, we are so happy for him to be able to spend more time on the golf course," Wilson said in her statement. "Maury is a television icon, a pop culture legend and we couldn't be more proud to have been a part of his incredible career."
Idiocy on full blast.
“Maury,” known for its paternity tests and guests who shared scandalous secrets, has been on the air for 24 years, making it the longest-running daytime talk show in television history, CNN reported.
Maury Povich follows fellow talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, who announced last May that her popular daytime talk show “Ellen” will end after 19 seasons after allegations that Degeneres conducted a toxic workplace.
So Maury Povich, Mehmet Oz, Nick Cannon, Ellen DeGeneres and Wendy Williams are leaving daytime talk. The Talk is not doing well now that Sharon Osbourne is gone. The Real could be cancelled this year. Live! with Kelly and Ryan are the top rated daytime show. The View is still reigning strongest. Dr. Phil is still a rating pull. Steve Wilkos is still doing well. Jerry Springer may be no longer doing his ringside show but his Judge Jerry is very much the same.
Drew Barrymore, Kelly Clarkson, Tamron Hall and Rachael Ray are still the eye candy for men who watch daytime talk. They got a new season renewed.
Today will be the first of many hearings for the President Joe Biden's nominee for the Supreme Court.
This will be a live televised event and it is expected to be interesting for Ketanji Brown Jackson.
The federal judge will face a grilling from many of the far-right Republicans who seek to torpedo her nomination.
The introduction of Ms. Jackson will give a look into her background. She is a graduate of Harvard University and served three clerkships including one with retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.
She is currently the federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
She was previously a district judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and vice chair for the U.S. Sentencing Commission.
Biden picked her in late February and hopes that Democrats and Republicans give her a fair hearing and a confirmation vote.
The problems I'm expected to cover from this hearing is bullshit coming out of the mouths of Sen. Karen Hawley (R-MO), Sen. Karen Cruz (R-TX), Sen. Karen Paul (R-KY), Sen. Karen Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Karen N. Kennedy (R-LA), Sen. Karen Tuberville (R-AL), Sen. Karen Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Sen. Karen Blackburn (R-TN), Sen. Karen Lee (R-UT), Sen. Karen Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Karen Sinema (D-AZ). These unabashed white nationalists will no doubt try to question Jackson's history on the bench as well as her personal life.
The far-right and NRA will automatically pivot to culture war issues like gun rights, abortion, the border wall, crime, her beliefs on Washed Up 45 and Biden. The whole smorgasbord of nonsense you've come to expect from these idiots and the lawmakers who embrace this.
All she needs is 50 senators and Vice President Kamala Harris to back that vote. It's going to be a tall order seeing how Manchin and Sinema are playing footsie with the GOP.
If confirmed, she will be the first African American woman on the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court justice Clarence Thomas in the hospital.
News hit the web, Associate Supreme Court justice Clarance Thomas is being hospitalized for flu-like symptoms.
President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, the members of the Supreme Court and Congress were notified.
Thomas, 73, was admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, part of the Johns Hopkins Health System, on Friday night, court officials said.
Tests showed he had an infection, and he has been receiving intravenous antibiotics, according to the court's statement.
Thomas' symptoms were abating, he was comfortable, and he could be released in the next few days, the court said.
Thomas will participate in cases that he may miss by using briefs, transcripts and oral arguments, sometimes delivered virtually, the court said.
The court is operating with a 6-3 conservative majority. Thomas' absence would be unlikely to unsettle that majority.
The health and well-being of members of the Supreme Court are always closely watched, particularly for justices whose judicial philosophies differ from that of the party that controls the White House. Thomas is one of the most conservative members of the Supreme Court.
The Senate will begin hearings Monday for President Joe Biden's first pick for a rare vacancy on the court, federal appeals Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
Thomas has been the subject of recent discussion about the court. His wife, Ginni Thomas, recently discussed attending the rally Washed Up 45 held on Jan. 6, 2021, before a mob of his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol.
