Subway Spokesman's Home Raided In Child Porn Case!

TV icon Jared Fogle under investigation for child porn.

Jared Fogle lives outside of Indianapolis. He and his family didn't expect a "NO KNOCK" at 6am.

The spokesman for fast food giant Subway had his home raided this morning. Fogle became the face of Subway after his friend published the story of a 6'2'' 425 lb. Indiana University freshman taking action on his weight. Jared would visit the local Subway in his apartment building. He would take motives to lose the fat and stands proudly at 200 lbs.

Now you can say that he's lost his $$$$$$$ gig. Apparently he's been fired out the cannon.

He has been active in recruiting kids, athletes and entertainers in the Subway Challenge.

Subway restaurants are located within the United States, Canada, and 108 other countries.

I swear on my life, there's a Subway Restaurant within two blocks of one another. There are over 44,000 restaurants. You find the United States either in Walmart, a gas station, a truck stops, shopping malls, stand alone stores, college campuses, cruise ships, airports, and military bases.

My god, there everywhere.

He and his former business partner are under investigation for harboring child porn.

Subway had put the brakes on Jared for the time being.

The FBI raided the Zionsville home in the early. The 37 year old pitchman for the fast food giant is facing controversy over allegedly harboring child pornography. The investigation centered around Russell Taylor, a former business partner for The Jared Foundation, an organization devoted to ending childhood obesity. Taylor is already in the county lockup awaiting trial. He was busted two months ago for harboring porn.
First Lady Michelle Obama at Subway. Jared Fogle is on the far left.

Taylor tried to put the bed sheets over his neck but failed when correction guards got to him. Now on suicide watch, Taylor is spilling the beans. He is fingering Fogle as the ringleader.

So of course, that's why the NO KNOCK came.

Officials at Subway's Milford, Conn., corporate headquarters issued a statement expressing shock about the search.

“We are shocked about the news and believe it is related to a prior investigation of a former Jared Foundation employee," the statement read. "We are very concerned and will be monitoring the situation closely. We don’t have any more details at this point.”

The Indianapolis Star and the AP report that the controversy may have damaged Fogle's legacy.

Subway said in a statement that it is "very concerned" about the raid, which it believes "is related to a prior investigation" of a former employee of the Jared Foundation, an organization founded by Fogle to raise awareness about childhood obesity. Subway did not immediately say whether that employee was former foundation executive director Russell Taylor.

The company had removed references to Fogle from its website by late afternoon and issued another statement, saying the two "have mutually agreed to suspend their relationship due to the current investigation."

"Jared continues to cooperate with authorities and he expects no actions to be forthcoming," the company said. "Both Jared and Subway agree that this was the appropriate step to take."

Federal prosecutors in May filed a criminal complaint charging Taylor, 43, with seven counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Fogle issued a statement after the charges were filed saying he was shocked by the allegations and was severing all ties with Taylor.

The Indianapolis Star photographed Fogle stepping out of a police evidence van parked outside his home Tuesday morning, and he left the house just after noon with attorney Ron Elberger. Fogle declined to comment, but Elberger later released a statement saying his client is cooperating with authorities.

"Jared has been cooperating, and continues to cooperate, with law enforcement in their investigation of unspecified charges, and looks forward to its conclusion," Elberger said.

During a search of Taylor's home this spring, federal investigators say they discovered a cache of sexually explicit photos and videos Taylor allegedly produced by secretly filming minor children at the home. They said they also allegedly found more than 400 videos of child pornography on computers and storage media recovered from Taylor's home office in his Indianapolis residence.

Taylor's attorney, Brad Banks, said Tuesday his client was briefly hospitalized after the allegations surfaced but is now in federal custody. Sheriff's officials have said Taylor tried to take his own life in jail.

"The only thing I can say is that I'm aware that there's an ongoing investigation," Banks said.

Tim Horty, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office in Indianapolis, said prosecutors "are moving forward" with the case against Taylor. He declined to comment on Tuesday's raid at Fogle's home.

Neighbors said Fogle and his wife entertained frequently and would say hello but that they didn't see the couple outside a lot.

Jacob Schrader, 19, who lives across from Fogle's house, said the pitchman seems "like a pretty private guy" and that he'd only seen him about a dozen times in the last five or six years.

"He's like an endangered species or something like that," Schrader said.

Subway, which is based in Milford, Connecticut, and is privately held, has struggled in recent years. Last year, industry tracker Technomic said average sales for Subway stores in the U.S. declined 3 percent from the previous year. The company has about 44,000 locations around the world.

Shocking. What's your thoughts on this controversy?

Blogger Biologist Danielle Lee An 'Urban Whore' By Biology Online

I'm a scientist and I'm being treated like trash by people from Biology Online.
Is this how women of Color scientists are treated?

This is an example of why women and People of Color aren't into science.  I'd love to become a scientist since I was 8 years old, but social studies, culture, reading, English, Spanish, library science, art, and history are my loves.  I still love science, but I'm despair by the racism/sexism that goes on in that field.  Here's a sad article regarding how the scientific community treats Black women such as Ms. Danielle Lee.  Danielle Lee is a scientist/scientist blogger from Oklahoma, one of the most misogynistic states in America today.  Here's the Huffington Post article on the Sista:

After turning down an offer to contribute for free to a science websitebiologist Danielle Lee was allegedly called an "urban whore" by one of the site's editors.
It all started when Biology-Online offered Lee, who's doing her post-doctoral research at Oklahoma State University, the chance to be a guest blogger. The editor, whose name appears to be Ofek, said the opportunity would provide her with a great deal of "exposure," boasting that the site has 1.6 million visitors a month.
On Thursday, Lee politely declined the offer, according to screengrabs posted on IsisTheScientist, a blog. But the Biology-Online editor who made her the offer became upset and apparently responded by asking: "Because we don't pay for blog entries? Are you an urban scientist or an urban whore?"
The next day, an indignant Lee wrote about the incident on her Scientific American blog, "The Urban Scientist," saying the name-calling was dismissive, and the idea of being paid in exposure, rather than actual U.S. currency, is "wrong-headed."
This is work. I am a professional. Professionals get paid. End of story. Even if I decide to do it pro bono (because I support your mission or I know you, whatevs) – it is still worth something. I’m simply choosing to waive that fee.
But here's where things get even crazier. Later that day, Scientific American (which apparently had listed Biology-Online as a partner until recently) deleted Lee's blog. The URL now leads to an error message.
The following day, Scientific American Editor-in-Chief Mariette DiChristina gave a cursory explanation on Twitter:

But after Lee's story was picked up by numerous blogs and news sites over the weekend, DiChristina wrote a longer explanation for having pulled the post, saying:
Unfortunately, we could not quickly verify the facts of [Lee's] blog post and consequently for legal reasons we had to remove the post. Although we regret that this was necessary, a publisher must be able to protect its interests and Scientific American bloggers are informed that we may remove their blog posts at any time when they agree to blog for us.
Biology-Online did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Huffington Post.

Running Wild: Famed Runner Charged With Murder!

Blade Runner Charged With Murder!

This is a horrible tragedy on Valentine's Day.

The South African Olympian Oscar Pistorius, best known as "The Blade Runner" is charged with murder.

The paralympian was arrested for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. Steenkamp is a famed South African model and reality star. She was the girlfriend of Pistorius.

Reeva Steenkamp was murdered by famed Olympian.
Lt. Col. Katlego Mogale told The Associated Press that officers found a 9-mm pistol at the scene.

Police spokesperson Captain Sarah Mcirca also confirmed that the victim was shot in the arm and the head, USA Today reported.

"There are witnesses and they have been interviewed this morning. We are talking about neighbors and people that heard things earlier in the evening and when the shooting took place," police brigadier Denise Beukes said.

The circumstances of the shooting have not yet been released.

Steenkamp's publicist Sarit Tomlinson described the incident as a "huge loss for everyone and too shocking for words."

"She was a rising star ... a very bright young girl," Tomlinson said.

Silver Woods Country Estate, the prestigious gated community where Pistorius lives, also released the following statement: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic circumstances that occurred today at Silver Woods. Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to Reeva Steenkamp’s family and friends."

Pistorius, 26, who was born without a fibula in both legs, was the first double amputee to run in the Olympics. Nicknamed the "Blade Runner," he was able to compete by wearing carbon fiber prosthetic blades.

A national hero in South Africa, Pistorius ran in 11 races during the 2012 Games and the Paralympics. He returned home with "two Paralympic gold medals, Paralympic silver, two world records, a Paralympic record, an Olympic individual semi-final and an Olympic final." He was also named one of the "sexiest men alive" by People Magazine.

The South African Olympic committee said it would be inappropriate to comment on the shooting because of the ongoing police investigation, but issued the following statement: "The organization is in no position to comment on the incident other than to say our deepest sympathy and condolences have been expressed to the families of all concerned."

We here at Journal de la Reyna send our condolences to the family of Reeva Steenkamp.

Jenni Rivera: Famed Latina Singer Died In Plane Crash!

Famed singer Jenni Rivera died in a tragic plane crash.
We here at Journal de la Reyna send our condolences to the family of famed singer Jenni Rivera. A tragic plane crash in Mexico carried her and other passengers on it. There were no survivors of this crash.

Jenny Dolores Rivera Saavedra was a Mexican-American singer known for her work within the banda and norteña music genres. She began recording in 1992, and her recordings often have themes of social issues, infidelity, and relationships.

Her tenth studio album, Jenni in 2008, became her first number-one album in the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the United States. In 2010 she appeared in and produced the reality TV show Jenni Rivera Presents: Chiquis & Raq-C, featuring her oldest daughter. She also appeared in and produced I Love Jenni starting in 2011 and Chiquis 'n Control in 2012.

Jenni Rivera TV personality Jenni Rivera arrives at The Cable Show 2010 "An Evening With NBC Universal" on May 12, 2010 in Universal City, California.Rivera was born in Long Beach, California. Her parents are Mexican immigrants who raised Rivera and her four brothers and sister (including Lupillo Rivera) in a tight-knit musical household.

Rivera died in a plane crash near Iturbide, Nuevo León, Mexico on December 9, 2012.

Rivera had three children with her first husband, José Trinidad Marín: Janney "Chiquis" Marín Rivera (born 1985), Jacqueline Marín Rivera (born 1989), and Michael Marín Rivera (born 1991). After divorcing Marín, Rivera married Juan López in 1997 and had two children with him: Jenicka López Rivera (born 1997), and Johnny López Rivera (born 2001). They divorced in 2003, and López died in 2009. Rivera married baseball player Esteban Loaiza in 2010. They filed for divorce in 2012.

On August 6, 2010, Rivera was named spokeswoman for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. A proclamation was given "officially naming" August 6 “Jenni Rivera Day” by the LA City Council for all her charity work and involvement in the community.

The Los Angeles Times report the Mexico's Ministry of Transportation and Communications said the Learjet carrying seven people, including Rivera, was found in mountainous terrain in Nuevo Leon, just south of Monterrey. There were no survivors, authorities said.

The plane left Monterrey around 3:30 a.m., following a concert that she had given, according to the Associated Press. The U.S.-registered Learjet 25 was headed to Toluca, near Mexico City.

The 43-year-old Long Beach native, known to fans as "la diva de la banda," was best known for her interpretations of regional Mexican music, norteno and banda. She was one of NBCUniversal's biggest bilingual television stars, with a hugely popular reality show, "I Love Jenni," on cable channel Mun2.

She also had a syndicated weekly radio program and clothing and cosmetics lines -- all designed to appeal to U.S. Latinas. The ABC television network was developing a sitcom starring Rivera, tentatively titled "Jenni," about a strong-willed Latina single mother.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, Rivera has sold 1.2 million albums and 349,000 digital tracks in the United States.

Rivera belonged to one of the most important dynasties in contemporary U.S.-based Mexican music. Her father, Pedro Rivera, launched the independent label Cintas Acuario in 1987; it grew out of a booth at an area swap meet. Her four brothers were also involved in music, and her younger brother Lupillo also is a wildly popular Mexican regional singer.

According to her Telemundo biography, Rivera didn't plan on joining the family's musical dynasty. But after an early marriage ended in divorce, she obtained a college degree in business administration and worked in real estate before going to work for her father's record label.

Her debut, "Chacalosa" (slang for "party girl"), was her introduction to the music scene. She eventually signed with Fonovisa, one of the most prominent labels in regional Mexican music, and began releasing bestselling Latin music CDs.

More than 16,000 people attended a concert that she headlined last year at Staples Center in Los Angeles. She was scheduled to appear next March at L.A.'s Gibson Amphitheatre.

So many fans flocked to a record-signing event in Riverside last year that police reportedly were called to help disperse the massive crowd.

Her tumultuous life included an early marriage and pregnancy, domestic abuse and divorce. She wove some of those themes into her songs and was an advocate for social responsibility. She founded a charitable organization, the Jenni Rivera Love Foundation, offering support to single mothers and victims of domestic abuse in the United States.

Rivera had five children and a grandchild. Celebrity magazines said she was seeking a divorce from her second husband, former Major League Baseball player Esteban Loaiza.

NYPD Search For Guy Who Push Man Into Subway Train!

NYPD is looking for suspect in the murder of Ki Suk Han. The man was pushed to his death when a subway approached.
We here at Journal de la Reyna want to send our condolences to Ki Suk Han. He was killed after a confrontation by another man in the New York City Public subway.

Who said riding the public transportation saves money?

I say it's more dangerous for anyone riding the public transportation.

Artis Hughes punches Shi'dia Lane after the woman verbally and physically assaulted him on his bus.
Men and women get robbed by individuals while waiting at the bus stop. Graffiti marks every train, bus, traffic sign or building. It's not fair! You're not safe riding public transportation. Earlier a Cleveland, Ohio bus driver assaulted a passenger, Shi'dia Lane, after she verbally abused the driver and shoved him. Artis Hughes  got arrested for the assault. He was also suspended with eventually fired by the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority. The story made it on The Drudge Report and the Huffington Post. Each news agitator has picked a side. And of course the situation also merited the word salad of racial slurs and Obama.

And of course, this will have the White men in the conservative media angry at that Black "thug" who pushed that innocent Asian man into the path of an oncoming subway train.

NYPD officials are searching for a man suspected of pushing a Queens father onto the subway tracks where he was fatally struck by an oncoming train on Monday.
ki suk han dead
Time to take a picture! But not enough time to save a man's life! This is what Rupert Murdoch's newspaper does!
The New York Post reports the victim, identified as 58-year-old Ki Suk Han, was attempting to "protect fellow straphangers from a deranged man" at the 49th Street station when he was suddenly shoved onto the tracks by the suspect.

Bystanders frantically waved and yelled, trying to halt the oncoming Q train from hitting Han, but their attempts proved futile.

"He got caught between the train and the edge of the platform," said William Van Alstyne, who witnessed the horrifying scene. "He got caught between the train and the edge of the platform. He got dragged. You could see the trail of blood from where he got hit to where he stopped.”

A Post freelance photographer happened to be on the platform and captured the moment just before Han's death. In the photo you can see Han trying to hoist himself up onto the platform, as the train comes barreling towards him. Umar Abbasi says he attempted to warn the train conductor by flashing his camera, but to no avail.

Before the incident, onlookers say the suspect and Han exchanged heated words.

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said the suspect was believed to have been "talking to himself" and most likely instigated a fight with Han.

"At least one witness felt that the aggressor was emotionally disturbed," Browne said.

Han was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He is survived by a wife and college-aged daughter.

Officials released this image of the man believed to be the attacker who pushed Han:

Our question to those who read the bold words, why take the picture when you could have helped the man get off the tracks?

Is a freaking photo more important than a life?

New Orleans Braces For Hurricane Isaac!

Isaac is approaching New Orleans, seven years to the day, Hurricane Katrina leveled the city.
Isaac is a dangerous storm. The potential of the tropical storm becoming a hurricane is likely. And it's aimed directly for New Orleans. Tuesday's arrival of the storm marks the day that Hurricane Katrina destroy the South.

Over seven years ago, Hurricane Katrina pounded New Orleans, Louisiana and Biloxi, Mississippi. The hurricane killed over thousands of people. President George W. Bush felt the impact. He was roundly criticized for taking a vacation while the hurricane was approaching. The Bush administration's slow actions lead to the direct destruction of a major city.

When celebrities were fundraising for the victims of the hurricane, Kanye West made an impromptu speech declaring that George W. Bush doesn't care about Black people.

Are we seeing history repeating itself?

No.

People are preparing for this one. People are bracing for the Category 1 (even possibility of Category 2) storm. This storm could bring damage to the Gulf Coast.

In 2005, the fuel prices soared up to over $3.00 a gallon. The shut down of oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico and the potential damages of communities surrounding the Gulf Coast has driven fuel prices above the normal.

The New York Daily News reports that the GOP is panicked that Tropical Storm Isaac will morph into a hurricane and begin pounding the Gulf coast late Monday or early Tuesday. They don’t want to have to compete for news time with a dramatic hurricane.

But a bigger cause for their alarm is the very real possibility Isaac will hit New Orleans. And if it does, it may remind Americans of the last time New Orleans took the full brunt of a hurricane – and the non-response from the last Republican White House.

It was Hurricane Katrina, and the President was George W. Bush. Weeks and months went by as the residents of New Orleans suffered.

allbaugh
Then President George W. Bush and former FEMA chief Michael Brown. Then President Bush uttered the infamous words: "Brownie, you're doing a heck a of a job!"

“Heck of a job, Brownie,” said Bush to the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Administration, Michael Brown –  who hadn’t done his job at all.

That’s because Bush not only failed New Orleans. He also told America there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq – leading us into a terrible war on the basis of a lie.

High fuel prices happen during a hurricane or disruption in oil supply.
In addition, Bush took a $5 trillion budget surplus, handed to him by the Clinton administration, and turned it into an almost $6 trillion debt. He did this by enacting a giant tax cut that went mostly to wealthy Americans, passing a Medicare drug benefit that mostly benefitted the drug companies, and then convincing Congress to bail out Wall Street – no strings attached.

The Bush administration also let Wall Street get away with the risky bets and predatory home loans, until the Street almost melted down.

 Mitt Romney and others who are gathering in Tampa want to erase the memory of George W. Bush. They want to blame President Obama for the budget deficit and the lousy economy. That’s what their infomercial is largely about.

But if a Hurricane Isaac pounds New Orleans, Americans may start to recall the Bush administration anyway. They may even begin to recall how Republicans treat average Americans in need. And how they treat top executives from corporations and Wall Street whose jets have just been cleared to land in Tampa, where they’ll be wined and dined for the next three days.

Ohio Man Smashes Taco Bell After Screwed Up Order!

Michael Smith caught a craving of anger when he smashed his vehicle into an Ohio restaurant.

In Dayton, Ohio, a young man gets a craving for Taco Bell. When he was screwed out of a taco, he decided to take his frustration out on the business. He goes H.A.M. into the front door of the business.

Michael Smith 23, was at the restaurant during its late night hours, he order his Doritos Loco Tacos. But when he found out it was missing one, he got upset. The staff went ahead to correct the order, and gave the man his taco. But in spite of him getting his taco, he let his anger go right into the building.

According to WHIO-TV, a CBS affiliate, Smith was charged with felony vandalism, is set to go directly to a Montgomery County grand jury, the Huber Heights Police Department said Tuesday evening.

Police were dispatched to the restaurant at 6500 Chambersburg Road in the suburb of Huber Heights, at about 12:16 a.m. on a report of a crash there. Employees told police that a white male in a white truck had struck the building and fled east.

Police arrived to find that a vehicle had crashed into the customer entrance on the south side of the building, and they were able to track a fluid trail from that truck to an address on Pintail Court, according to the department.

Smith admitted to police what he had done, and they took him to the county jail. He was released on bond.

“I'm not sure what his motivation or mindset was, but he was obviously not very happy,” Steven Mizer, the general manager of the restaurant, told News Center 7.

The Lives of the Victims of Serial Killer Henry Louis Wallace

The Victims of Henry Louis Wallace: Remember These Ladies :

May 27, 1992 Sharon Lavette Nance 32

When Sharon Nance left her aunt's house in May 1992, she wore a black dress and talked about going out with friends. When she didn't return and didn't call, aunt Linda Nance knew something was wrong. But it wasn't until a week later, when TV reports showed police finding a woman's body in a black dress, that the family knew how bad it was. She had been beaten and left beside Rozzelle's Ferry Road. For almost two years the Nance family struggled with a mysterious, violent end to a troubled life. This week police said Nance was a victim of Henry Louis Wallace. Her family knew her as a sweet woman who drew, wrote poetry and loved her son. ``Whatever she could do for somebody, she would do it,'' said Linda Nance. Relatives say she fell in with a bad crowd, started using drugs and got into trouble. Police records show she faced 61 charges between 1975 and 1992, including minor traffic offenses, assault, drug and weapon charges. She had recently been released from prison before she died, police said. On Monday, the family was glad the killer had been caught, puzzled about how Nance encountered Wallace, and angry that her legal troubles were being dredged up. ``Regardless of what she had ever done, she was the best person I ever knew,'' said sister Doris Nance.

* June 15, 1992 Caroline Love 20

Whenever Bojangles' manager Terry Bizakis was working the night shift, he'd try to schedule Caroline Love to work, too. ``She did her job - never gave me any problems,'' says Bizakis, now an area manager for the fast-food chain. ``She could stretch out and pick up a little extra and never really complain about it.'' Love was hired as a cashier at the Central Avenue Bojangles' in September 1989 and worked there until June 15, 1992. She finished her shift that day and, just after midnight, began walking home to her Darby Terrace apartment on Central Avenue, six blocks away. Her sister, Kathy Love, who also worked for Bojangles', reported her missing the following day. In her quiet way, Love was a character, says Bizakis. She'd stroll into work every day with her headset playing her favorite rap music. ``And there was no way you were going to get her into that restaurant on her day off. You had to get her before her hair appointment,'' says Bizakis. ``She'd spend four or five hours getting it done and you never knew what to expect.'' What Bizakis liked about her best, he says, was that she was always on time, even though she was going to school, too. ``She had good work ethics. Everybody liked her.'' ''Caroline was a real sweet kid. A steady, all-around good person and employee.''

* Shawna D. Hawk Age: 20 Found: Feb 19, 1993

On the way to the Junior Prom, Shawna Hawk's date told her she didn't need the fake fingernails. So, all dressed up in the fanciest clothes she'd ever worn, Hawk peeled off the nails and tossed them out the window of her date's Mercedes and onto Independence Boulevard. ``That was the epitome of Shawna,'' says her mother, Dee Sumpter. ``She was herself. Unpretentious.'' Sumpter found her daughter strangled, in a bathtub full of water at their home on Elon Street more than a year ago. Hawk was working at the Taco Bell at 3612 N. Sharon Amity Rd. She had been hired by Henry Louis Wallace, who police charged with murdering her and nine other women. Hawk also was a student at Central Piedmont Community College, studying to become a paralegal. She had worked part-time to help pay the family bills from the time she was 14, lying about her age to get a hired at McDonald's. ``This kid would bring her entire check to me and say, Mommy, here it is for meals.' The entire check - from the time she was 15,'' says Sumpter. She graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1991 where she was just a shy, unassuming student, who wasn't involved in student activities, her mother says. ``She was just a basic, everyday good kid.''

* June 25, 1993 Audrey Ann Spain Age 24

Audrey Spain grew up in a tiny coastal town in South Carolina, and her parents hated seeing her move to the big city. But Spain hoped to find a job working with computers in Charlotte. She came here from Bayboro, S.C., about three years ago. Her career plan fizzled, and she ended up working at Taco Bell restaurants. There she fell in with a group of young singles who shot baskets, cooked out and went to comedy clubs together. One of them was Henry Wallace. Another was Shawna Hawk. Police say Wallace strangled Hawk in February 1993, and Spain four months later. Spain was the youngest daughter of six children. Her parents, Broughton and Mae Helen Spain of Bayboro, called her ``Baby'' and remember her as a friendly youth who knew no strangers. Charlotte co-workers say the same. ``She always liked to make you smile and laugh,'' said Stephanie Cook, who worked with Spain at the Sharon Amity Taco Bell, where Spain was a shift manager. Cook got the news of her death from Wallace. ``Guess what?'' she remembers him saying. ``You aren't going to believe this. Audrey's dead.'' Spain's parents took her body home to South Carolina. Her friends never heard about her funeral.

* Valencia M. Jumper Age: 21 Found: Aug. 10, 1993

Vanesa Jumper never believed that her younger sister, Valencia, would have failed to turn off the stove before falling asleep. But law enforcement officials told Valencia Jumper's family last summer that she died of smoke inhalation during a fire in her home at Greenbryre Apartments, off Sharon Amity Road. Sunday, Vanesa Jumper found out she was right. Valencia was one of 10 victims police say were killed by Henry Louis Wallace. ``Grieving is bad enough. Now seven months later, it's hitting just as hard as when they called the first time,'' Vanesa Jumper said Monday from her home in Columbia. ``I know my sister. I know how we were raised. The last thing you do at night is you check your door and you check your stove.'' The weekend before Valencia's death, Vanesa had been visiting. ``She cooked dinner and she unplugged everything. I know she was careful.'' Valencia Jumper grew up in Columbia, the youngest of five children. She was a senior at Johnson C. Smith University, majoring in computer science. She was a good student, and worked two jobs, as a cashier at the Food Lion on Central Avenue and as a sales associate at Hecht's. Vanesa Jumper said she became very good friends with Wallace's sister when they attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill. She said Wallace introduced himself to Valencia Jumper in 1990 when he was a customer at the Food Lion.

* September 15, 1993 Michelle Denise Stinson Age: 20

Michelle Stinson was aiming for a career as a graphic artist, and doing well in classes at Central Piedmont Community College when she was found dead inside her Grier Heights apartment last fall. Frank Granger, her graphic arts instructor, said she once chose to do a project about managing stress and raising two children. Until then, he hadn't understood why she would sometimes fall asleep in his class. After that, he admired her courage and determination. Stinson was making A's and B's in courses like desktop publishing, printing management, sculpture and water color. Then, a friend found her dead, facedown on the kitchen floor. Police said her two small sons, Ernee, 3, and Nashon, 1, were present when their mother was slain, stabbed to death. When the friend knocked, Ernee answered. ``My mommy's asleep on the floor,'' he said. Henry Wallace has been charged with killing Stinson and nine other women. All the victims were black women. Many of them knew Wallace from their apartment complexes or their jobs in fast food restaurants. Police said, at the time of her death, that there was no sign of a struggle or forced entry, and the apartment did not appear to have been burglarized.

* Feb. 20, 1994 Vanessa Little Mack Age: 25

Friends say Vanessa Mack had a troubled childhood. And sometimes, she lost patience with her own two children. But she was trying to do better, said Barbara Rippy, who found Mack strangled with a towel in her home off Wilkinson Boulevard. Rippy, whose son is the father of Mack's older daughter, Natara, 7, had come to Mack's home to babysit for her baby, Natalia Little, now 5 months old. Rippy raised Natara until she was 4-1/2. Then, when Mack won custody of Natara, Rippy moved from Florida to Charlotte. ``I was a mother to her . . . I used to tell her to watch who she associated with,'' said Rippy. ``We had our times, I'll tell you that. . . . `` After Mack died, Rippy said Mack's colleagues at Carolinas Medical Center told her Mack had often talked about how much Rippy had helped her. ``I used to think she hated me. . . . But after she passed, I felt real good that she really appreciated me. . . . `` Mack's sister, Leslie Little, had introduced Mack to Wallace in July 1993. Little and Wallace worked together at the Taco Bell on Sharon Amity Road. Eunice Stradford, Mack's friend and supervisor, said Mack always showed concern toward patients. When one woman died a year ago, Stradford said Mack was especially saddened. She said: ``Everybody I get close to, they die, Miss Eunice.''

* Brandi J. Henderson Age: 18 Found: March 9, 1994

Brandi June Henderson loved being a mother. At 18, she had set up house in a quiet apartment off Albemarle Road with her boyfriend and her 10-month-old son, Tareese Woods. ``She was my Brandi, my little cuddly Brandi,'' recalled her aunt, Dorothy Nance. ``She was just a happy person, and she wanted me to be happy too.'' Henderson's early life wasn't always easy. Her parents separated when she was 2, and she spent much of her childhood moving from house to house. Her aunt, Gale Burrell, said Henderson spent more time with her father than her mother. Lloyd Burris, who ran the children's church at Gloryland Baptist Church, remembers her as a young teenager. ``She was one of the sweetest kids I ever had in my program,'' he said. ``The main thing I remember about her is she hunted me up the second she hit that church.'' Henderson dropped out of high school but then went back to Harding High to try to get her diploma. She also studied at Central Piedmont Community College. ``I remember her being real sweet as she can be,'' said Jo Henderson, Brandi's cousin. ``And I remember her with a bookbag on her back, going up to Harding High School.''

* Betty Baucum Age: 24 Found: March 10, 1994

Ten minutes into his interview with Betty Jean Baucum, Phil Locke knew she was the kind of person he wanted working as a manager at the Bojangles' he ran on Central Avenue. ``She had a lot of good qualities,'' Locke said Monday. ``She was a very nice young lady, a hard worker, dependable. She just had a beautiful smile. And I never heard her use one word of profanity, even if she got burned or something.'' Locke hired Baucum on Sept. 20, 1993, as a management trainee. She became a co-manager at the store in November. A staff member at The Lake apartments on Albemarle Road found Baucum's body in her apartment Thursday morning after her family called, worried that they hadn't heard from her. Police said she had been strangled and dead for at least a day. Her car, believed to have been stolen, was found in a shopping center across the street from her apartment. Baucum was originally from Laurel Hill. Locke said she had recently asked about transferring to a new Bojangles' in Sanford, so she could be closer to her fiance. They hadn't talked about her plans in any detail, though. ``She was fair and consistent in the way she handled people,'' Locke said. ``She was somebody who was a joy to be around,'' Locke said.

* Debra Ann Slaughter Age: 35 Found: March 12, 1994

When Debra Slaughter's mother unlocked her door and saw Slaughter lying on the floor, she didn't panic. Slaughter had been suffering back pain and had an appointment with a chiropractor that day. Her mom assumed she'd stretched out to ease her back. But she was dead, a victim of killer Henry Louis Wallace, police said. Slaughter, a deli worker at the Morrocroft Harris Teeter, was the oldest of four children. Her family remembers her infectious laugh and beautiful voice singing in church choir. ``We used to sit around and tell childhood stories and she would make us laugh,'' recalls sister Linda Ball. ``She was sort of a comedian.'' Slaughter, who had an 18-year-old son living in Atlanta, moved into Glen Hollow apartments with her parents last year. They recently moved, leaving Slaughter alone. Police believe she, like most of the other victims, knew Wallace and let him in. The family doesn't recall hearing about him, but Slaughter may have met him while working at Bojangles' on Central Avenue. Wallace worked at several east Charlotte fast-food restaurants and met many of the victims there. Ball remembers her sister as a tall, strong woman. She wants to know more about the attack. ``I want to know if she was fighting him,'' Ball said.
