Lauren Hill Passed Away!

Lauren Hill, the Mount St. Joseph basketball player diagnosis with cancer passed away.

The basketball icon of Mount St. Joseph University Lauren Hill passed away yesterday. Many people are hoping that her legacy will help others achieve goals. She wanted to live her life doing something she told pride in doing.

Basketball.

She came to fame when she told the public she was diagnosis with terminal brain cancer.

She had Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma after she turned 18 in October 2013.

"To put my foot down on the floor and hear the roar of the crowd -- I just love it so much. I love basketball," Hill said after the game, where over 10,000 people attended, according to the Associated Press.

The away game was originally scheduled for later in the month, but the NCAA allowed it to be moved up due to Hill's condition. It was also held at Xavier University to accommodate the large, sold out crowd.

She had an opportunity to play a few basketball games and even graduated with high honors.

We here at Journal de Reyna send our condolences to the family of Lauren Hill.

Dave Chappelle Doesn't Take Kindly To Hecklers!

Meltdown in Hartford, CT. Entertainer Dave Chappelle doesn't take kind to assholes heckling him.

He is hailed as one of the greatest comedians ever. His often uncanny wits and explorer of issues that you never would talk about made him a very controversial figure.

David Khari Webber "Dave" Chappelle (born August 24, 1973) is an American comedian, screenwriter, television/film producer, actor, and artist.

Dave Chappelle began his film career in the film Robin Hood: Men in Tights in 1993 and continued to star in minor roles in the films The Nutty Professor, Con Air, and Blue Streak. His first lead role in a film was in Half Baked in 1998. In 2003, he became widely known for his popular sketch comedy television series, Chappelle's Show, which ran until his abrupt retirement from the show in 2005. Chappelle is ranked forty-third in Comedy Central Presents: 100 Greatest Stand-Ups of All Time.

Comedian Dave Chappelle had meltdowns during his rise to the top.

This one is classic. Apparently after 10 minutes onstage, the comedian gets pissed at some ignorant hecklers.

He launches into a tirade and dropped the mic and ended the show.

Dave Chappelle was reportedly heckled to the point that he ended his performance in the Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival on Thursday night, and walked off stage.

Chappelle was only a few minutes into his act at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, Conn., when he stopped telling jokes because the people in front were making too much noise, The Laugh Button reported.

This isn't the first time that Chappelle has reacted to an upset crowd. Last year, he was unable to get through a large portion of his set in Texas due to hecklers. The summer tour was considered to be Chappelle's big return to the stage.

Dave Chappelle was born in Washington, DC. He is a Sunni Muslim and vegetarian. He resides in Yellow Springs, Ohio about twenty miles from Dayton, Ohio.

He is good friends with Kevin Hart, Wayne Brady, Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock.

Lauryn Hill Bitching About 3 Months In The Iron College!

The official mugshot of entertainer Lauryn Hill. The 37-year old singer will be spending time in the iron college for not paying her taxes. She goes into an epic rant about how the United States Justice System screws over Black people.

She's lucky!

The former Fugee singer could have gotten at least 10 years in the federal joint for deliberately not paying her taxes. The singer will go to the federal joint for a three month stay and a few years of probation.

Lauryn Hill appears as an artist on Sony Music Entertainment.

The entertainer is one of many Black celebrities in the news for blowing money fast. She joins the ranks of Lil' Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Young Buck, Wesley Snipes, R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige and Swizz Beatz as entertainers who have a longstanding issue with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The singer may have to fork over Grammy's, her platinum plaques, her home, car and her trademarks as collateral.

Lauryn Noelle Hill (born May 26, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, and actress. Early in her career, she established her reputation as an actress in the film Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, and then as the front woman of the hip-hop group Fugees. In 1998, she launched her solo career with the release of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The album sold over eight million copies and earned five Grammy Awards for Hill, including Album of the Year and Best New Artist.

To date, she has won a total of eight Grammys.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Madeline Cox Arleo in Newark, N.J. federal court also sentenced the famed rapper and actress to three months of home confinement with electronic monitoring after the prison term. Hill must also serve a year of supervised release and pay a $60,000 fine in addition to paying her tax debt to the IRS.

Hill is a 37-year-old South Orange, N.J. resident who won fame as a member of the Fugees and then launched a solo career that included the Grammy-winning The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill . She pleaded guilty last year in the tax case.

In a courtroom statement to Arleo, Hill said she had always intended to pay the overdue taxes eventually, but found herself unable to raise the money during a period when she had dropped out of the music business.

Hill had faced a maximum sentence of one year each on three counts. Her lawyer, Nathan Hochman, had argued for probation.

Hochman said Hill had paid more than $970,000 to satisfy her tax liabilities.

Last month, Hill used Tumblr to address media reports that stated she'd reached new label deal with Sony Worldwide Entertainment to release music that would help her pay the tax debts. Hill confirmed a deal with Sony but said the reported nature of the deal and dollar amounts involved were inaccurate.

Prosecution records filed in the tax case by the office of U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman showed that Hill owned and operated four private corporations in addition to her entertainment career. Royalties from the recording and film industries were Hill's primary form of income, the prosecution document charged.

Hill received more than $1.8 million in income during 2005, 2006 and 2007 but didn't file tax returns during that time. Although her guilty plea specifically related to that three-year period, Fishman said her sentence also took into account additional income and tax losses for 2008 and 2009, when she similarly failed to file tax returns. The sentence also addressed overdue New Jersey state taxes.

In all, federal prosecutors said Hill had earned approximately $2.3 million during the five years and had an unpaid tax total of $1,006,517 before more recent payments.

Hill is tentatively scheduled to begin her prison term July 8. It was not immediately clear where she would serve the sentence.

Hill took to Tumblr to express her outrage about her sentencing.

It has been reported that I signed a new record deal, and that I did this to pay taxes. Yes, I have recently entered into an agreement with Sony Worldwide Entertainment, to launch a new label, on which my new music will be released. And yes, I am working on new music.

I’ve remained silent, after an extensive healing process. This has been a 10+ year battle, for a long time played out behind closed doors, but now in front of the public eye. This is an old conflict between art and commerce… free minds, and minds that are perhaps overly tethered to structure. This is about inequity, and the resulting disenfranchisement caused by it. I’ve been fighting for existential and economic freedom, which means the freedom to create and live without someone threatening, controlling, and/or manipulating the art and the artist, by tying the purse strings.

It took years for me to get out of the ‘parasitic’ dynamic of my youth, and into a deal that better reflects my true contribution as an artist, and (purportedly) gives me the control necessary to create a paradigm suitable for my needs. I have been working towards this for a long time, not just because of my current legal situation, but because I am an artist, I love to create, and I need the proper platform to do so.

The nature of my new business venture, as well as the dollar amount reported, was inaccurate, only a portion of the overall deal. Keep in mind, my past recordings have sold over 50,000,000 units worldwide, earning the label a tremendous amount of money (a fraction of which actually came to me).

Only a completely complicated set of traps, manipulations, and inequitable business arrangements could put someone who has accomplished the things that I have, financially in need of anything. I am one artist who finds value in openly discussing the dynamics within this industry that force artists to compromise or distort themselves and what they do, rather than allowing them to make the music that people need. There are volumes that could (and will) be said.

Lauryn Hill Will Be Visiting The Iron College!

Lauryn Hill performs in November 2011.

The Grammy award winning singer/rapper is facing serious charges of tax evasion. She will be going to federal prison in November 2012.

The 37-year old entertainer is under the radar for not paying her 2005, 2006, and 2007 tax earnings. Her estimated value of taxes owed is nearly $1 million.

Again this is federal charges. If you're charged with a federal crime, you are required to serve the complete term. There's no exceptions.

According to The Rolling Stone Magazine and CNN, Hill pleaded guilty in a New Jersey courtroom on Friday to evading federal taxes on $1.8 million earned between 2005 and 2007, the Associated Press reports. The singer faces a maximum one-year sentence for each of the three counts.

Hill declined to speak after the hearing, but her attorney, Nathan Hochman, indicated that she plans on paying back the taxes owed. U.S. Magistrate Michael Shipp agreed to delay the sentencing from early

October to late November in order to give Hill time to make payment.

When Shipp asked Hill if anyone had directly or indirectly influenced her decision to plead guilty, Hill gave an enigmatic response that seemed to promise a future statement: "Indirectly, I've been advised my ability to speak out directly is for another time, at sentencing."

The income on which Hill did not pay taxes -- $818,000 collected in 2005, $222,000 in 2006 and $761,000 in 2007 -- was earned by four corporations that she owns.

Charges were brought against Hill earlier this month , after which the singer took to Tumblr to address her side of the situation  but focused on her time outside of the spotlight: "During this period of crisis, much was said about me both slanted and inaccurate, by those who had become dependent on my creative force, yet unwilling to fully acknowledge the importance of my contribution, nor compensate me equitably for it."

Hill added in the post that she felt her "potential to work" was in danger and thus said, "I did whatever needed to be done in order to insulate my family from the climate of hostility, false entitlement, manipulation, racial prejudice, sexism and ageism that I was surrounded by.

"There were no exotic trips," she continued, "no fleet of cars, just an all out war for safety, integrity, wholeness and health, without mistreatment, denial, and/or exploitation."

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was the debut album that sold over 19 million copies. Hill hasn't released an album since 1998.

Lauryn Hill co-produced the commercially successful Supernatural for Carlos Santana, in 1999, for which she won another grammy for album of the year. This made her the only female artist to win two album of the year grammys consecutively, which set a record for most album of the year wins by a female artist (tied with Norah Jones). Shortly after this she mainly dropped out of public view, in part due to her displeasure with fame and the music industry. After a four-year hiatus, she released MTV Unplugged No. 2.0, a live recording of "deeply personal songs" performed mostly solo with an acoustic guitar.
