| Ohio flipped big time. |
Well, it was an interesting evening.
Yearly wrap up.
My home state of Ohio. This is the Democrats one opportunity not to fuck this shit up.
They better focus on the economy and get Israel out of their mouths. This is a warning to the Democrats.
We ain't got time for shows. Focus only on the economy and work with the president to fix the problems that lie ahead.
Congratulations to Gov-elect, Dr. Amy Acton. The former Ohio medical adviser who handled the coronavirus pandemic under Republican governor Mike DeWine won on Tuesday.
Her opponent, billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy conceded to her. Ramaswamy lost the 2026 Ohio gubernatorial election to Democrat Amy Acton due to a combination of a highly controversial late-campaign attack ad that severely backfired, economic vulnerabilities tied to his national alignment with an deeply unpopular president and deep fractures within his own party base.
The advertisement triggered severe bipartisan condemnation. DeWine called the ad "deeply troubling," and local news outlets like the Columbus Dispatch pulled their support, calling it "revolting and unsettling". Polling indicated that Ramaswamy rapidly lost crucial ground immediately after the ad aired.
Despite pumping more than $36 million of his own fortune into the race—and receiving heavy financial backing from out-of-state billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Yass—Ramaswamy's total campaign spending exceeded $100 million. Political analysts noted that this historic spending influx ultimately failed to resonate against localized economic anxieties and voter fatigue over highly aggressive, negative airwave saturation.
Acton captured the victory, breaking a 20-year Republican grip on the Ohio governor's mansion. Consult official election resources to verify the final vote percentages.
Sen. Jon Husted (R-OH) has conceded to his former friend, former senator Sherrod Brown. The former lieutenant governor who was appointed as the senator was defeated and I strongly believe if the president didn't talk about his ass, he would won.
Rep. Max Miller (R-OH) lost his reelection. Brian Poindexter won. The former White House advisor in the first term had been defeated. The former son in law to Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) lost because of his abuse allegations against Emily Moreno and Stephanie Grisham.
Rep. Mike Carey (R-OH) lost his reelection. Don Leonard won. The lawmaker wanted to paint Leonard as a far left extremist.
Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) lost his reelection. Kristina Knickerbocker won. A political novice who was considered a huge underdog.
Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) wins her reelection.
Rep. Shontel Brown (D-OH) wins her reelection.
Rep. David Joyce (R-OH) wins his reelection.
Rep. Mike Rulli (R-OH) wins his reelection.
Rep. Dave Taylor (R-OH) wins his reelection.
Rep. Greg Landsman (D-OH) wins his reelection.
Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH) wins her reelection.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) wins his reelection.
Rep. Troy Balderson (R-OH) wins his reelection.
Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) wins his reelection.
Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH) wins his reelection.
Rep. Emilia Sykes (D-OH) wins her reelection.
Ohio came through for the Democrats. The state that gave President Donald J. Trump three massive wins and is the home of native son, Vice President JD Vance has rejected Republican control in a massive way.
The state of 11.5 million has finally gotten tired of the Republican trifectas and the endless amount of time being wasted on culture wars. The Republicans who delivered massive issues from voter suppression to fucked up gerrymandering got three of their crucial seats wiped out.
They couldn't push an agenda with gas prices at $4.98⁹ and diesel at $7.38⁹. Even repealing the gas tax was not enough.
Their redistricting, the porn site blocks, the bans on transgender Ohions playing sport, the restrictions on the safety net, the long voting lines and endless amounts of gaslighting about the dangers of their opponents doomed the Republicans.
The data center debate also became a big issue for Republicans. The support for data centers have drastically declined in bipartisan fashion.
Ohio had been largely written off by national strategists after voting for Trump by double digits in 2024 and cementing a red trend across three consecutive presidential cycles.
However, these midterms proved that working-class and independent voters are highly fluid. Buffeted by high inflation, rising fuel prices, and general dissatisfaction with the economy, a significant portion of the electorate split their tickets or shifted away from the GOP. While gerrymandered districts still protect the Republican majority in the state legislature, the statewide sweeps by Acton and Brown demonstrate that both parties can now consistently and aggressively compete for Ohio’s top prizes.
More satisfying is the end of Mike Turner. For over 20 years, Turner relied on telling voters that Wright Patterson Air Force Bass and his past time as former Dayton mayor mattered. He put his focus squarely on workers at the military base and not the constituents in his district. The city of Dayton lost a hospital. It is a food desert. There are no high paying jobs anywhere. Blight plagues the city of Dayton, inner suburbs Trotwood and Riverside. Buc-ee's picking a fight with Beaver Mart in Beavercreek. Turner never setting foot in parts of his district hurt by the policies of Ohio Republicans and Trump.
The Springfield Haitian issue mattered as well. When ICE came to the town, Pierre Damas Bel was placed in monitoring. He was trying to live the American dream only to he told he had to go back to Haiti. He committed suicide and Turner never reacted to his death.
Kristina Knickerbocker from Yellow Springs, the hometown of comedian Dave Chappelle has narrowly beaten Turner. It shook the Ohio Republicans to the core.
Him, Mike Carey and Max Miller held safe districts. No one and I mean no one expected these seats to flip.
Max Miller despite his fallout with his ex wife Emily Moreno and former father in law Bernie Moreno went in with strong advantage. His abuse towards Emily, their daughter and Stephanie Grisham became the noose around his neck.
Despite pumping $1 million of his own money into the race and modeling his resilience after Trump, Miller could not overcome the scandals. Mainstream Democrats heavily funded his challenger, Brian Poindexter, whose campaign consistently amplified the domestic violence allegations.
Trump has officially entered a lame-duck phase following the 2026 midterm elections, as Democrats flipped control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate.
