Julian Bond Passed Away!

Civil rights icon Julian Bond passed away.

The famed Julian Bond passed away over the weekend. World News Today send our condolences to the family of a great icon in civil rights.

Julian was a social activist and leader in the Civil Rights Movement, politician, professor, and writer. While a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, during the early 1960s, he helped to establish the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).

Bond was elected to four terms in the Georgia House of Representatives and later to six terms in the Georgia Senate, having served a combined twenty years in both legislative chambers. From 1998 to 2010, he was chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the first president of the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Bond died in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, after a brief illness, according to The Associated Press.

“Julian Bond was a hero and, I’m privileged to say, a friend. Justice and equality was the mission that spanned his life,” President Barack Obama said in a statement Sunday. “Julian Bond helped change this country for the better. And what better way to be remembered than that.”
I'm privileged to say, Julian was a friend for justice and equality.
Bond was a Nashville, Tennessee, native who attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. While in school, he co-founded the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee -- an organization that fought for and encouraged youth members to be vocal in the civil rights revolution.  He led SNCC as the communications director, stood on the front lines of protests alongside several other civil rights pioneers like Martin Luther King Jr. and John Lewis, and became a leader in the 1960s protest movement.

Bond later served as board chairman of the 500,000-member NAACP for 10 years, but declined to run for another one-year term in 2010, the AP reported.

Bond would often appear as a commentator on news shows and became a leading voice in the media, featured on NBC's "Today" show, and in The Nation and The New York Times.

He was also a professor of history at the University of Virginia and an adjunct professor at American University, the AP reported.

Many other celebrated civil and human rights activists mourned Bond's death Sunday.

"Very few throughout human history have embodied the ideals of honor, dignity, courage and friendship like Dr. Julian Bond," said Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign. "Quite simply, this nation and this world are far better because of his life and commitment to justice and equality for all people. Future generations will look back on the life and legacy of Julian Bond and see a warrior of good who helped conquer hate in the name of love. I will greatly miss my friend and my hero, Dr. Julian Bond."

Bond is survived by his wife, Pamela Horowitz, and five children.

The Flag Is Down!

Looks like another victory in the battle for progress.

South Carolina lawmakers passed a bill that will take the Confederate flag off the state capitol grounds and have placed in a historical museum. Republican governor Nikki Haley is likely to sign it.

The flag coming down will certainly piss off the racist right. They believe that the flag represents Southern pride and heritage. Bullshit.

The flag represents a losing side of history. The AP reports that state lawmakers overwhelmingly passed this. There were some Republican and Democratic lawmakers who voted against lowering the flag.

The push that would bring down the Confederate flag for good only started after nine black churchgoers, including state Sen. Clementa Pinckney, were gunned down during Bible study at the historic Emanuel African Episcopal Church in Charleston on June 17. Police said the white gunman's motivation was racial hatred. Then three days later, photos surfaced of the suspect, Dylann Roof, holding Confederate flags.

"I am 44 years old. I never thought I'd see this moment. I stand with people who never thought they would see this as well," said House Minority Leader Todd Rutherford, who called the victims martyrs. "It's emotional for us not just because it came down, but why it came down."

Republican Rep. Rick Quinn, whose amendment appeared it might at least delay the flag's removal for several hours, was happy too after getting a promise that lawmakers would find money for a special display at the Relic Room for the Confederate flag that was about to be removed as well as the one that flew over the Statehouse dome in 2000 when a compromise was passed to move the rebel banner to its current location.

"It was done in a way that was a win to everyone," said Quinn, who voted for the bill.

The back-to-back votes came around 1 a.m. Thursday after more than 13 hours of passionate and contentious debate.

As House members deliberated well into the night, there were tears of anger and shared memories of Civil War ancestors. Black Democrats, frustrated at being asked to show grace to Civil War soldiers as the debate wore on, warned the state was embarrassing itself.

Changing the Senate bill could have meant it taking weeks or even months to remove the flag, perhaps blunting momentum that has grown since the church massacre.

Republican Rep. Jenny Horne reminded her colleagues she was a descendent of Confederate President Jefferson Davis, and scolded fellow members of her party for stalling the debate with dozens of amendments.

She cried as she remembered Pinckney's funeral and his widow, who was hiding with one of their daughters in a church office as the gunman fired dozens of shots.

"For the widow of Sen. Pinckney and his two young daughters, that would be adding insult to injury and I will not be a part of it!" she screamed into a microphone.

She said later during a break she didn't intend to speak but got frustrated with fellow Republicans.

Opponents of removing the flag talked about grandparents who passed down family treasures and lamented that the flag had been "hijacked" or "abducted" by racists.

Rep. Mike Pitts, who remembered playing with a Confederate ancestor's cavalry sword while growing up, said for him the flag is a reminder of how dirt-poor Southern farmers fought Yankees not because they hated blacks or supported slavery, but because their land was being invaded.

Those soldiers should be respected just as soldiers who fought in the Middle East or Afghanistan, he said, recalling his own military service. Pitts then turned to a lawmaker he called a dear friend, recalling how his black colleague nearly died in Vietnam.

Black lawmakers told their own stories of ancestors. Rep. Joe Neal talked about tracing his family back to four brothers, brought to America in chains to be bought by a slave owner named Neal who changed their last names and pulled them apart from their families.

"The whole world is asking, is South Carolina really going to change, or will it hold to an ugly tradition of prejudice and discrimination and hide behind heritage as an excuse for it," Neal said.

Other Democrats suggested any delay would let Ku Klux Klan members planning a rally July 18 a chance to dance around the Confederate flag.

Instead, Democrats were using a line Gov. Haley often says, calling it "a great day in South Carolina."

The governor issued her own statement. "It is a new day in South Carolina, a day we can all be proud of, a day that truly brings us all together as we continue to heal, as one people and on," she said.

The Long Hot Summer.....

The South rocked by possible arson at predominately Black churches.

First things first, we start of the month of July with the report of the Klan making a trip to Columbia, South Carolina to protest the proposal to remove the Confederate flag from the state capitol grounds.

Then there was a disturbance in which a man instigated a riot near the capitol grounds. The man was a supporter of the Confederate flag and he deliberately drove through to taunt the Black protesters.

That situation managed to attract the conservative Craigslist attention. After all, what could spook White folks more than a man being pummeled by a bunch of Black people.

Conservatives would find #BLACKLIVESMATTER hashtag merged with #RACIALMOBVIOLENCE

Then we have unexplained Black church burns in the South.

Macon, Memphis, Tallahassee, Warrenville, S.C. , Knoxville, and Charlotte were the scene where possible burns may have been the works of White extremists.

The FBI and state authorities are trying to connect the dots. Could this have been a hate crime?

Since that White terrorist killed nine innocent victims at Emmanuel AME Church, the calls for gun control and the removal of the Confederate flag have gotten louder.

Bree Newsome: [Never] Fear The Unknown! Fight For Change!

It's not over! - Bree Newsome

Cue the conservative outrage, a Black woman climbed up a pole and cut down the Confederate flag around the South Carolina capitol grounds.

Bree Newsome, a resident of Charlotte. NC traveled to Columbia to make a point. She wants the world to know that that flag represents the racism that led to the killings of nine in Charleston.

She wanted the world to know that Freddie Gray's life matters. She wanted to let protesters know that she's not afraid of what the media says about her. She did it to make the world know that she's not afraid to stand up for something.

Newsome was charged today for defacing a state monument on Capitol grounds. Authorities said that she climbed the 30 foot tall pole and unhooked the flag, ignoring the orders of officers who arrived when she was halfway up the pole.

This misdemeanor carries a hefty fine of $5,000 with a trip to the iron college for up to three years. If they find her guilty, she may face both. Her and James Ian Tyson, from Charlotte were both cuffed.

There is a crowdfunding website that was set up today to raise money for her and Tyson. So far it's reached nearly $100,000 in funds. A hashtag #BreeNewsome went viral since the incident.

The Confederate battle flag which is protected by South Carolina law was raised again 45 minutes after Bree unhooked the flag.
Bree Newsome gained national recognition after climbing a pole to remove the Confederate flag.
Call for removing the flag came after a White terrorist killed nine people in Charleston's Emmanuel AME Church.

Republican governor Nikki Haley along with Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Tim Scott (R-SC), Rep. Mark Sanford (R-SC) and Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) calls for the flag's removal.

President Barack Obama delivered a passionate speech yesterday telling that the world see how Americans overcome tragedies. He urged Americans to pressure Congress to pass legislation to change the narrative. Obama believes that mass murder tragedies are going to continue way pass his term.

It's up to state lawmakers to pass it.

Counter-protesters were in Columbia today to protest the removal of the Confederate flag. Some are saying that the flag isn't about hate, it's about heritage. They blame the junk food media for allowing this discussion focus on their "pride" of the South, the Confederate battle flag.
Bree Newsome and James Ian Tyson were booked in county lockup.
Legally known as Brittany Newsome,  Bree graduated from high school being active in her community. She was involved in student government and served as student body president.

Many believe her actions could inspire millions and that's why activist DeRay McKesson has called for his followers to aid her throughout her journey.

Me and S. Baldwin wish Bree well on her journey. Bree is currently in county lockup. She is innocent until proven guilty.

This is a passionate issue. This shooting has opened deep wounds.

This month alone we've dealt with Charleston, McKinney, Texas, Rachel Dolezal, The Duggars, marriage legality, Tamir Rice and Obamacare.

June has been the most active month for World News Today. The long hot summer begins. We'll be here to cover everything.

White Terrorist Got Pampered On His Way To Lockup!

White terrorist got him some burgers and fries from the law.

President Barack Obama is getting ready to head down to Charleston to do an eulogy for state senator and pastor Clementa Pickney. Pickney and eight others were gunned down by a White terrorist who had nothing but hate in his heart.

As the court prepares state charges against this scumbag. There's revelations of pampered treatment for the terrorist.

Dylann Roof was arrested and taken back to Charleston. He was caught outside of rural North Carolina. The law was tipped off by a seamstress who was on her way to work.

As they approach his vehicle, they didn't have guns drawn. It was a calm arrest. I figured that a mass shooter would have officers with guns drawn and a forced drag out the vehicle.

They asked him for his identity and ordered him out the car.

As if the terrorist wanted to waive his Miranda's rights, the terrorist said can I get some food.

Much obliged says the law. They get him some Burger King.

Police in Shelby, N.C., reportedly bought the 21-year-old food from Burger King after he was taken into custody approximately 250 miles northwest of Charleston following a 16-hour manhunt.

Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford said that terrorist had bought water and chips from a gas station in Charleston earlier on Thursday, but hours had passed and he was hungry.

"He was very quiet, very calm. He didn't talk," Ledford told The Charlotte Observer. "He sat down here very quietly. He was not problematic."

Strickland Maddox, a pastor with Eskridge Grove Baptist Church in Shelby, N.C., also described what happened when police bought food from Burger King for the suspect.

"He hadn't eaten, they said, in a couple of days," Maddox told Yahoo News. "They bought him a hamburger. They just sent out for it. I guess one of the police officers went and picked it up."

Roof was charged on Friday with nine counts of murder and a weapons possession charge.

And with that said, comes the national outrage. Why would the law be so soft on a White mass shooter when they're so quick to shoot and kill Black men.

The judge who ordered him on lockup said that his family is the real victims. After all, Roof ruined his sister's wedding and his antics may have caused his family great harm. Now they're getting death threats and the wedding is off. Of course the judge who gave Roof the get out jail free card is off the bench.

He gets a special room next to accused murderer Michael Slager. Slager is the ex-cop who shot and killed unarmed victim Walter Scott after a routine pull over.

Such a criminal does have the right to a fair trial. He is innocent until proven guilty. He is entitled to getting food, water, phone call and opportunity to have a decent public defender.

This terrorist can't stop unity. His actions may have made Republicans do a political expediency. That damn flag isn't the problem.

As the president said it, "Racism is in our DNA".

Why Would You Fly The Flag Of A Losing Side?

Fire: Protesters in South Carolina have begun burning Confederate flags (above) in response to the state's refusal to remove the flag from the capitol
Black activists light up the Confederate flag. This will rile up extremists.

The South Carolina governor Nikki Haley is a prominent Republican lawmaker. She is one of the youngest and most attractive women to hold office. A woman of great prominence is dealing with a controversy.

In the wake of a mass shooting at a historically Black church in Charleston, Haley must decide on taking measures to ensure her residents that she's got everything under control.
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) are the only two Black lawmakers representing South Carolina.
For a woman of color, it should be a no brainer. She should acknowledge that a portion of her state's residents have some extremists views.

As you know many White southerners fly the Confederate flag as a homage to those who fought in the Civil War. They may think of it as heritage, I look at the flag as a disgrace to America. Why on earth would anyone fly the flag of the losing team?

In downtown Charleston, protesters deface statues dedicated to the Confederate soldiers.

The Charleston Post and Courier reports police dispatchers were tipped off to the vandalism around late this afternoon.

Another message, “This is the problem #racist,” also was spray-painted on “To the Confederate Defenders of Charleston — Fort Sumter.”

The damage was reported to police dispatchers just after 12:30 p.m. The statue was covered up by residents who wrapped a large tarp around it about 1:30 p.m.

Two signs were placed on the tarp after the graffiti was covered up. One said, “All lives matter #charlestonunited,” and the other said, “Take down racist statues.”

The incident occurred in the wake of the fatal shooting Wednesday of nine black people inside Emanuel AME Church in what police say was an attack by a white supremacist. The church held its first service since the shootings on Sunday.

The attack has led to a nationwide call for South Carolina to remove the Confederate battle flag from the Statehouse grounds. At least 1,000 people gathered Saturday in Columbia to call for the flag to be taken down. Numerous petitions also call for the flag’s removal.

The statue caused a stir downtown Sunday as several individuals began arguing about the battle flag. Zachary Gaither of Charleston helped cover the graffiti on the statue and said he did not associate the flag with racism.
South Carolina is facing heat over its embracing of the Confederacy.

“I was covering up something that was demoting our city,” he said of the graffiti, adding, “the Confederate flag is a Southern heritage of pride to me.”

Tighe Berry, who is from out of town but wouldn’t say where, argued for the graffiti to be left up.

“That was a disgusting war that was to separate this country to keep an institution of hatred, racism and violence and slavery,” he said.

Madea Benjamin of Washington, D.C., put up the sign encouraging the statue to be taken down.

“It’s important for this state to say we don’t support white supremacy, we don’t promote pro-hatred groups or symbols,” she said.

The Confederate flag is sort of like the Swastika flag. It's symbolically a historical failure.

Already the agitators are outraged at DeRay McKesson.

McKesson has been effective in his protests and they hate him like they hate Rev. Perm. He promise more protests in the wake of the shooting.

Ever since McKesson appeared on that network that may have inspired that racist shooter to kill those nine innocent lives, he's been a target of conservative ire. McKesson plans on making an appearance in Charleston.

The pot called the kettle black. Here's a concern troll on the social media who claims that President Barack Obama and Rev. Perm should stay away.

Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) are two elected members of Congress. One is a Black Democrat and the other is a Black Republican.

They have both express sadness over this. But however, they both have a different view of the Confederate flag being flown at the state house in Columbia.

There's an active movement to have the flag formally removed from the state house.

Allegedly activists defaced the Confederate soldiers monument.

Do you believe that the Confederate flag is sign of heritage or a symbol of racism?

Georgia Principal Fired Out The Cannon After Tossing A Racial Insult!

The principal of a school in Georgia got fired out the cannon after she was recorded making a racial insult.

Now I see "all the Black people" are leaving.

Oh, damn, I'm leaving too....!

The words of a former Georgia principal after she made an outright snark at attendees at a commencement speech. She screwed up on the scheduling and told the audience to wait until a valedictorian spoke.

People were exiting the auditorium. She went off and it was recorded on camera.

“You people are being so rude to not listen to this speech,” Nancy Gordeuk told the crowd. “It was my fault that we missed it in the program. Look who’s leaving — all the black people.”

Gordeuk apologized for her comments over the weekend, claiming the “devil was in the house.” However, on Monday, she defended them and said she wasn't racist.
Screen Shot 2015-05-14 at 9.18.56 AM
Look who's leaving, all the Black people!
“People always think the worst,” Gordeuk said. “You know, oh you say the word 'black,' you know, was I supposed to say ‘African American?’ Were they all born in Africa? No, they’re Americans. And, they live here. And, but just, I’m not a racist. People that know me, I've worked with disadvantaged kids like this that couldn't get through school, we help them get a high school diploma.”

It drove all the attendees to bounce. She told the junk food media that she screwed up and it lead to her getting her share of death threats and ridicule.

Nancy Gorduek was fired out the cannon after days of discussion. That discussion led to the board of directors at TNT Academy in Stone Mountain decided that it was way worse than expected.

View the video and judge for yourself. Was she out of line?

BREAKING: Duke Captures NCAA Championship!

The Duke Blue Devils beats the Wisconsin Badgers.

It looking like the NCAA Division 1 champions are the Duke Blue Devils. The men's basketball team managed to survive a hard fought game. They came from the the back to the front. They managed to overpower a strong Wisconsin Badger defense.

At first Wisconsin overpowered Duke. But in the end, Duke managed to secure a strong lead after the Badgers fouled one too many times. They were trailing by ten points before the final five minutes.

I mean this is another win for the Blue Devils. The fifth title for the ACC conference team.

They're partying in Durham tonight.
One extraordinary night.
The 2014–15 Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team represents Duke University during the 2014–15 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Returning as head coach is Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski. The team plays its home games at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

By beating Michigan State 81-61 in the Final Four in Indianapolis, the Blue Devils defeated Wisconsin, 68–63 for the championship, won the 5th NCAA championship titles

Congratulations to the Blue Devils and coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Wisconsin was handed another defeat. They lost the Big Ten Championship in football and now the NCAA title game in basketball.

Wondering if they're planning on rioting in the streets. After all, the junk food media will see a bunch of drunken college students and fans rioting as unrest and unruliness.

Will the junk food media call the fans of the Badgers or Blue Devils who may riot after the NCAA title game animals?

Todd Kincannon: I'm Not A Thug! I Was On The Meds When I Pimp Slapped My Wife!

Todd Kincannon put the smack down on his wife. He claims he was doped up on meds when he threatened to kill his wife Ashely. He was the former South Carolina Republican chairman. This clown is notorious for internet trolling and throwing racially charged insults at Blacks.

This guy Todd Kincannon was the former Republican chairman from South Carolina. He was the guy on the social media calling Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown, "thugs". He concluded that George Zimmerman and Darren Wilson did the world a favor by putting slugs in these unarmed men.

Now it seems like Todd has to look into the mirror once a while. He's caught some flack after the junk food media reported on him slapping his wife in a domestic violence dispute.

He was accused by his wife of unlawful restraint. He got into a shouting match with her and physically restrained her.

The Charleston City Paper reports that Kincannon's wife Ashely Suzanne Griffith wants out. She believes that the man is crazy. She told the law they “have a history of unreported domestic violence.” She said she was “extremely fearful” of Kincannon and described him as being “extremely ‘traditional’ and controlling, thus becoming very upset due to embarrassing him,” according to the report. From the report (Note: Kincannon’s full name is listed as James John Todd Kincannon; the report refers to him as James):

“Ashely continued to tell me after leaving the work function, James began screaming at Ashely while they drove in their car. Ashely told James to let her out of their car to which he refused. Ashely proceeded to roll down the window and scream for James to let her out, hoping a bystander would call 9-1-1.”

She went on to tell the deputy that, while Kincannon was driving the car in a Chick-fil-A parking lot at about 5 mph, she attempted to get out of the vehicle, but “James grabbed Ashely’s arm, squeezing it tightly, thus preventing her from exiting the vehicle,” according to the report. She told the deputy that she hit Kincannon’s arm several times in an attempt to escape, but Kincannon accelerated and she was unable to get out.
The mighty Todd and his tweets.
From the report:

Ashley continued to tell me she called her mother for help and attempted to call 9-1-1 with an open line in order for the dispatcher to hear James. While driving, James saw a police vehicle and ‘freaked out.’ James threatened he would drive the car into a concrete barrier if the cops became involved. In addition, James also threatened to kill himself if Ashely left. Ashely continued to tell me James has made several threats in the past to kill himself, her, and her family. Furthermore, Ashely said she has past incidents of domestic violence and threats of homicide/suicide recorded. I saw no visible injuries to Ashely, she provided me with a written statement, and was issued a victim’s pamphlet. It should be noted Ashely was trembling as she wrote her statement.

The deputy then returned to Kincannon, who reportedly denied grabbing his wife’s arm and threatening to kill himself. He “did say Ashely informed him she wanted out of the car at which time he pulled into a ‘Chik-fil-A’ parking lot,” according to the report, but “Upon entering the parking lot, Ashely changed her mind and said she did not want to get out.”

The officer wrote that because of “Ashely’s statements of James killing himself,” the officer called in an EMS unit, who transported Kincannon to Lexington Medical Center for “further evaluation.”

Wondering if Ashely could have been armed?

Could she just "stand her ground"?

Kincannon had to put the brakes on his social networking. He's been laying low.
Todd was on the Benzonatate when he tweeted these nuggets.
Kincannon claims his violent tempers stems from drug use. He attached a photo of a prescription bottle of Benzonatate with his name on the label. He later added that the reaction was “most likely my fault for chewing the capsule and accidentally overdosing.” He adds: “You’d think a guy with my IQ would know better, but I have to admit I didn't pay any attention to the instructions when I took the stuff. I just wanted to stop coughing my head off and took the prescription without reading the label. Lesson learned, and as Admiral James T. Kirk would say, ‘double dumbass’ on me. (That’s a Star Trek IV reference in case you’re curious.)”

WebMD lists confusion and hallucination as possible side effects of benzonatate.

The City Paper asked Kincannon to comment on the allegations of death and suicide threats and domestic abuse, and he wrote:

My wife says she only discussed stuff that happened since I'd been on the Benzonatate, which hadn't been very long. Once we got to the hospital and it got out of my system, I went back to normal and am totally fine now.

When asked how long he had been taking Benzonatate, Kincannon said he had the prescription filled on March 5 and started taking the capsules daily. "I recall taking them but don't recall chewing any until yesterday," he said on Friday.

What if the law was seeing him threatening his wife and he decides to pull out his firearm or a knife?

Could Kincannon use the Benzonatate as an excuse as well?

What's your thoughts on this agitator's latest bout of misfortune?

We here at Journal de la Reyna send our prayers to Ashely and wish her safe travels. Hopefully she can help end this nightmare by leaving this guy?

Marie Holmes: I Gotta Be Humble, My Kids Are The Winners!

Holmes said she originally bought five tickets for a total $15 before the lottery was announced. She later bought five more in homes of winning the jackpot
The winner of Powerball comes forward. She shows her ticket to the junk food media. Notice that most lottery experts believe that "quick picks" are the way to winning. The winning numbers are located on line D.

The record Powerball jackpot winner steps forwards to claim her share. She is actually putting her face out there to explain her struggles and the miracle of being a single mom and now a jackpot winner.

Marie Holmes of North Carolina was one of the three winners who claims the $567 million jackpot.

The 26 year old mother of four came forth to explain why she wanted to go public.

She along with winners from Texas and the autonomous territory of Puerto Rico share this. With taxes each would walk away with an estimated $130 million.

She had an opportunity to talk to the junk food media about the day she purchased that winning ticket.

Life is good for Marie Holmes.
If you look slightly towards the ticket. The lottery commissions will tell ya that "machine pick" tickets are the ones that you could find the jackpots in. Of course, you're playing against 176 million others who are willing to shelve up to $300 to play a $2 unit of Powerball or $1 unit of Mega Millions.

The Shallotte woman vows to not let the winnings "change her". She said that she will devote some of her earnings to a local church and give her family a vacation.

The Daily Mail reports that Marie used to work at McDonald's and Walmart before quitting to take care of her children.

Her four children, Brayden, Charisma, Andrea and Ebony, are aged from nine months to seven years old. Brayden is believed to suffer from cerebral palsy.

Holmes sacrificed her education to care for her four children and took minimum wage jobs to provide for her family.

With little or no help from the fathers of her four young children, she has struggled financially for most of her adult life.

Holmes has also seen her own father repeatedly jailed and her favorite cousin shot and left paralyzed after a home invasion.

Family members describe Holmes as a loving mother who always put her children first.

"Marie is very grounded and she will know what to do with all that money," said her uncle William Bryant.
Be careful, the Have-Nots will come.
"I'm sure she will want to buy a new home for herself and her kids, but I can't see any extravagant purchases. She's a nice girl who loves her family and loves her church."

In 2012, state officials who run Powerball and Mega Millions changed ticket prices and lowered the odds of winning jackpots in hopes the moves would increase the number of huge prizes and draw more players.

The new rules worked, causing jackpots to repeatedly climb to record levels. More than half of the top 10 U.S. jackpots have been reached in the past couple of years.

Be careful what you play. You are responsible for whatever unit comes out! Be clear in explaining what type of unit you requesting.

Powerball and Mega Millions are tickets that can not be canceled. You are responsible for whatever unit comes out. Your state lottery commission and the licensed retailer are not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged or altered tickets.

You have to be at least 18 years old to play these games.

Best advice for all who win the lottery, is keep a cool head.

The first thing you do is write your name down on the back of the winning ticket. Say if you lose the jackpot ticket! If you have forgotten to sign the ticket and it gets lost, then it's your word against the winner's.

Second, make sure you cancel out your Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or any other social networking website your on. That's the next thing that happens when you're a winner.

Third, you cancel your phone numbers and limit your email intake. Obviously you'll be swamped with phone numbers and well wishers asking if you're willing to shelve out a little cash. Trial lawyers, charity groups, the junk food media and scammers will take advantage of you. Some charity groups will not often bother you, but there are some that pose as legitimate but in reality a scam.

Fourth, hire a qualified lottery attorney. Make sure you have a qualified attorney who specializes in handling large sums of money. Don't assume every attorney is well respected in handling your financial earnings.

Fifth, don't quit a job until you are sure you've won the lottery. Don't rush to judgment about being a lottery winner. Sometimes a person who wins the lottery never expects it to happen so don't sit around the house hoping the day will come you'll be the millionaire. Don't burn bridges with your job. You may end up back at it if you decide to go back into the workforce.

Sixth, pay off debts to college loans, house, billings, and credit cards. Don't let these issues ruin your credit score or chances at buying better things. Do not share earnings with people who owe you money.

Seventh, invest your money in a trust fund if you have children or family members you can trust if you should die. Make a will or entrust. Make sure you know that you have a family member or a trusted friend who will take care of the winnings once you pass away.

Eighth, have fun with your earnings. Don't blow it on things that obviously will attract negative attention. Yeah, this is a gateway to putting in other venues. Some may blow their money at casinos, horsetracks, fantasy football and online poker. Granted that you are given the right to do whatever you want with your earnings, but seriously are going to get a gold stature of your image? Are willing to have five chefs, a butler, housekeeper, nanny, and chauffeur on the payroll? You going to buy a $100,000 vehicle! You want to own an island! Do you want your "friends" who often borrow money from you to handle your earnings?

Ninth, be humble. Cause money will change a person when they're rich. Don't expect your live to be "normal" when you win the lottery. Cause it's not going to be normal. It could a great experience or the worst thing.

Lastly, The Have-Nots Will Always Try To Make You Feel Guilty About Winning. Ignore Them And Be Happy About Your Success.

Blame Game: The Murder Of Three Young Muslims In North Carolina!

Three innocent lives were lost to gun violence. This cold blooded killer murder this family over issues with their religion. The racist right wants to label the suspect a "liberal" extremist.

This cold blooded killer is the person the media should focus on. Of course, the junk food media and the partisan agitators have to make note of the suspects "political affiliations" and the victims being Muslims.

A young couple and family member were gunned down by this ignorant bigot. This bigot is facing capital murder in the deaths of Yusor Abu-Salha, 21, and Razan Abu-Salha, 19, along with Yusor's husband, Deah Barakat, 23.

We here at Journal de la Reyna send our condolences to Yusor, Razan and Deah. Their innocent lives were cut short by this Craig Stevens, a 46 year old nerd who had hatred for Muslims.

The agitators are figuring this is a hate crime. Obviously the junk food media has concluded that this dispute occurred over a parking spot.

Police received a report of gunfire shortly after 5pm yesterday in the Chapel Hill neighborhood of Finley Forest; all three victims died at the scene. In a statement today, CHPD reports "our preliminary investigation indicates that the crime was motivated by an ongoing neighbor dispute over parking."
Criminal act....
The Charlotte Observer notes that all three victims were Muslim, and speculation is rife on social media that it could have been a hate crime. The Independent notes a Facebook page in Hicks' name that shows him to be an apparent supporter for "Atheists for Equality" and a frequent poster of images that mock religion.

Barakat was a doctoral student in UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Dentistry. The sisters were N.C. State University students.

Barakat's wife, Yusor Abu-Salha, was scheduled to start dental studies at UNC in the fall; the two worked together to lobby for global public health and had just married on Dec. 27 (wedding photo here). Sister-in-law Razan was studying architecture at North Carolina State University. An "Our Three Winners" Facebook page dedicated to the family is up, with a poignant "About" section that says, "Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha have returned to their Lord. They have set an example in life and in death."

Conservative Outrage Over Dems Get Out To Vote Strategy!

If you're willing to allow unfiltered ignorance to reign in Washington, DC, vote for the insurgent. But if you want common sense  politics, vote for North Carolina senator Kay Hagan, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate.

Conservatives are upset over the Democratic Senate Majority PAC using the "race card" to win.

Embattled Democratic senator Kay Hagan of North Carolina is relying on the advantages of early voting. Right now she's leading by 2 points in the polls and insurgent Thom Tillis is hoping to capitalize off the president's disappointing job approval in the state. Besides the president, the Tillis campaign got the biggest asshole on Loserville to help push out desperate votes.

That annoying conservative agitator was giving Tillis his last chance to get his racist right base out to vote. On the segment, that annoying agitator played clips of the Super Pac ad.

Then he went to bitching about Trayvon Martin, the "so-called" six to eight Black witness to back up Ferguson officer Darren Wilson, the shooter of unarmed Michael Brown and rehashing the old Southern Democrats.

He asked if Tillis was willing to condemn the ads. Of course Tillis was ready to respond to them.

Tillis would say that Barack Obama's policies aren't helpful to Black and the talk about what he may do if he wins the election. The usual promise everything but deliver nothing. Hagan done it too just to be fair.

Conservatives are so annoying. They really want Blacks, Hispanics and young voters to sit out these elections. Conservatives hope Republicans rally on their racist right base! With all the talk about  Black on White crime, illegal immigration, Ebola and ISIS, the Republicans are hoping to win the U.S. Senate on negativity.

They have no plan to bring jobs to Americans. They have no agenda to solve the economic gap between rich and poor. They want to cut the safety net. They just want to scream and yell! It's pathetic that when Democrats were in charge things were moving forward.

If it takes another thumping from Republicans to get the Democrats back to the minority, then so be it! The Democrats practically had the advantage. They managed to turnout a huge base. What went wrong?

And looking forward to Tuesday, the U.S. Senate chances are GOOD for Republicans. They have a 67% chance to take back the Senate.

And to make this clear, I am certainly not too thrill to have the inept opposition in power.

By the way, that annoying conservative agitator continues to ignore the Republicans playing the card.

If you haven't seen the Nebraska 2nd District House Race? It's not pretty. They pulled out the race card in this event. Not a peep from that annoying conservative agitator and Loserville.

The Tar Hills Have Eyes!

The battle in the Tar Hill state. Embattled Democratic politico Kay Hagan is taking on establishment nominee Thom Tillis, the North Carolina Speaker of the Statehouse.

The Democrats are extremely nervous about the prospects of Kay Hagan, the embattled senator from the state of North Carolina. She is locked in a dead heat with the establishment nominee Thom Tillis.

I had it at Leans Democratic. But alas, I will throw it into the Toss Up category. The category is valuable in this race for control of the Senate. Republicans are hoping that Obama's negative popularity could help them win control of Congress. Although, Congress under both parties is pretty damn bad, Republicans are more motivated to getting their base out to vote.

Early voting is the only key for Hagan to win. After all, Charlotte, Greensboro, Fayetteville are minority majority cities. Hagan is banking on the Black and Hispanic votes to carry her to victory.

The first term senator is fighting for her political life. She supported the president's agenda about almost 85% of the time. Hagan is the second most vulnerable candidate after Arkansas Democratic senator Mark Pryor.

Janet Kay Ruthven Hagan (/ˈheɪɡən/; born May 26, 1953) is the junior United States Senator from North Carolina, in office since January 2009. Previously she served in the North Carolina Senate from 1999 to 2009. She is a member of the Democratic Party.

When Hagan defeated Republican incumbent Elizabeth Dole in the 2008 United States Senate election, she became the first woman to defeat an incumbent woman in a Senate election.

Hagan is running for re-election in 2014 in what is considered one of the toughest reelection bids in the country, facing Republican Thom Tillis, and Libertarian Sean Haugh.

Thomas Roland "Thom" Tillis (born August 30, 1960) is a Republican member of the North Carolina House of Representatives from Mecklenburg County, and Speaker of the House, and is also the Republican Party's nominee for the 2014 U.S. Senate election in North Carolina.

Tillis, the son of a boat draftsman, was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but also lived in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Nashville, Tennessee, growing up.

His family moved especially frequently when he was in elementary school, as he never went to the same school in back-to-back years. In high school, Tillis was elected student body president and graduated near the top of his class.

After graduating high school at 17, Tillis left home to get a job, telling The Charlotte Observer that he and his siblings "weren't wired to go to college."He would eventually go back to school, attending Chattanooga State Community College and receiving his bachelor's degree in technology management from the University of Maryland University College in 1996.

Hagan was stalked by "protesters" according to that annoying conservative agitator's show.

You know that Thom Tillis has operatives trying to sway voters. Obviously that conservative agitator is one of those operatives who is trying to sway votes.

If the election was held today, I am guessing Hagan would survive. But still it's too early to predict the outcome.

Pat McCrory, the Republican governor of the state tried to pass a voter identification law that was considerably strict and discriminatory. Many figured that he was trying to marginalize Black, poor, and young voters with this.

The shooting death of Jonathon Ferrell also happened last year and still has people totally pissed off over the officers not being charged. This sparked the Moral March protests.

The Moral March were covered by me and S. Baldwin this year. This was the motivation for gaining new voters. Hopefully, North Carolina decides on who going to Washington.

Agriculture, tobacco, technology, aviation and coal make North Carolina prime real estate.

We'll see what happens November 4.

Sleeper Race: Former American Idol Alum Clay Aiken Runs For Congress!

Entertainer Clay Aiken is running for Congress. He is taking on the insurgent Representative Renee Ellmers of North Carolina.

The runner up for American Idol Season Two is eyeing Washington for his next gig.

In a longshot bid, entertainer Clay Aiken is trying to upset Renee Ellmers in a sleeper race.

Clayton Holmes "Clay" Aiken (born November 30, 1978) is an American singer–songwriter, television personality, actor, author, politician and activist. Aiken released seven albums while singing. He performed on reality television, Broadway and radio.

He is openly gay and is a father of a son.

The entertainer is hoping that North Carolina voters will support him over the insurgent.

The insurgent is heavily favored to win this solid Republican district. The 2nd Congressional District is prime real estate for an insurgent candidate.

And of course Ellmers is going all out to keep the Hollywood Liberals out of her district.

Renee Jacisin Ellmers (born February 9, 1964) is an American politician who has been the U.S. Representative for North Carolina's 2nd congressional district since 2011. She is a member of the Republican Party. Ellmers defeated seven-term Democratic incumbent Bob Etheridge in 2010 by 1,489 votes, confirmed after a recount.

Aiken announced his candidacy as a Democrat for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Carolina's 2nd congressional district against incumbent Republican Party Congresswoman Renee Ellmers. The district is a traditionally Democratic seat, formerly held by Rep. Bob Etheridge for 8 consecutive terms until 2010. It is roughly made up of one third registered Democrats, one third registered Republicans, and one third unaffiliated voters.

Could Aiken's celebrity help or hurt his chances with rural voters?

Will he be the next famous celebrity to be a lawmaker?

Did you know that Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood, Ronald Reagan, Sony Bono and Al Franken were actors before they've became politicians?

The Return Of Reading Rainbow!

Reading Rainbow is in the works for a grand return.

LaVar Burton has motivated childhood memories with his program Reading Rainbow. His show told American youth the gifts of reading a book. You don't have to take his word for it! I mean it was one of the best shows in American media.

It's been awhile since the show been off the air, but thanks to Kickstarter, Reading Rainbow is back in business.

You remember the song?

Reading Rainbow is an American children's television series that aired on PBS from June 6, 1983, until November 10, 2006, that encouraged children to read. In 2012 an iPad and Kindle Fire educational interactive book reading and video field trip application was launched bearing the name of the program.

The public television series garnered over 200 broadcast awards, including a Peabody Award and 26 Emmy Awards, 11 of which were in the "Outstanding Children's Series" category. The series was created under the leadership of Cecily Truett Lancit and Larry Lancit, at Lancit Media Productions in New York. The concept of a reading series for children originated with Twila Liggett, Ph.D., and Paul Schupbach (director), of the Great Plains National Instructional Television Library at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln; and Tony Buttino, of WNED-TV Buffalo, New York. The original team included Lynne Brenner Ganek, Ellen Schecter, and host LeVar Burton.

Even Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane (who had Burton as a guest on the show) chipped in a ton of money to bring back the program.

Reading Rainbow App was released for the iPad and, within 36 hours, became the #1 most-downloaded educational app in the iTunes App Store.

Built from the ground up by LeVar Burton and his company, RRKIDZ, the app allows children to read unlimited books, explore video field trips starring Burton, and earn rewards for reading.

The week of June 11, 2013, Reading Rainbow celebrated its 30th anniversary.

Courtney Sandford lost her life after posting on social networks. She was involved in a car accident on her way to work. Her friends and family blame her careless use of the phone for her tragic death.

A woman on her way to work was on her phone posting on the social networks when she crashed into a recycling truck near High Point, North Carolina.

We here at Journal de la Reyna send our condolences to the family at Courtney Sandford.

Her friends tell the law that she was posting on Facebook about the time she would lose control of her vehicle and cross the median. By crossing the median, she struck the truck and was killed instantly.

The woman posted on the social networking site that she was listening to "Happy", the smash hit from entertainer Pharrell Williams.

Well it turns tragic and the North Carolina police are investigating why should didn't watch what she was doing before the crash.

Courtney Sandford was a 32 year old woman with a vibrant life. It was a horrible tragedy that could have been adverted says the law.

The Closer Online reports that she was on a stretch of Business Interstate 85 around the rush hour. Courtney posted a tweet reading: ‘The happy song makes me HAPPY!’ According to authorities, the tweet was posted at 8.33am and the first 911 call was just a minute later.

Courtney was wearing a seatbelt, but police have said that it wasn’t fastened properly.

Sadly, the timing of the tweet along with a series of selfies taken by the victim revealed that she was using her phone whilst driving.
Entertainer Pharrell Williams is the producer of mega hits like his single Happy. The entertainer is a producer, business mogul, rocker, rapper and avid skateboarder. The entertainer produced hits for Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne, Ludacris, T.I., Brittney Spears, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg and Pusha T.
We're in the digital age.

About 90% of American citizens own and operate a cell phone. The land line phone is on the decline and most Americans are now getting all their needs through their phone.

And with the phone comes the responsibility. Smartphone theft is on the rise and people are losing their lives over this. The companies and software developers are working to prevent this from happening. They are creating freeware and anti-theft tools to keep track of a stolen phone.

States are passing stricter laws that fine, vehicle operators who are on the road while on the phone.

I admit that I often do a lot of texting on the phone while operating a vehicle. That is extremely dangerous.

Many Americans lost their lives on the highways because of a five second text or a phone conversation.

You don't get an opportunity to avoid a hazard when you're arguing with a friend or family member.

You crash into a vehicle. Either you kill someone or you're the one!

We all must use common sense when using a cellphone!

Henry Louis Wallace Serial Murder Case- 20 Years Later

Henry Louis Wallace Murder Case- 20 Years Later

Some of the victims of Henry Louis Wallace, Shawna Denise Hawk and Betty Jean(Susie) Baucum

It has been 20 years ago today that I first heard about a serial killer killing beautiful young Black and Biracial women in Charlotte.  I was only 22 years old in 1994.  I was horrified that someone went around the neighborhood slaughtering women at their prime.  Those women didn't get a chance to see their future. No college graduations(although Valencia M. Jumper was given a posthumous degree from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte), mo weddings(several of the victims were engaged). No chance to see their children grow up, graduate, have careers, get married and have children of their own. That wicked, evil man senselessly took their lives between 1990 and 1994.  His name is Henry Louis Wallace.

Henry L. Wallace was born in Barnwell, S.C. in November 1965.  He was raised by his mother and never met his father who was a schoolteacher who died a long time ago.  His childhood was marked with great unhappiness and abuse, with much of the abuse came from his mother.  Despite his woeful circumstances, he became a popular student at Barnwell High School.  He participated in extracurricular activities, even tried out as a male cheerleader and ran for the school student council.  He graduated there in 1983 and moved to Washington State to join the U.S. Navy.  He was honorably discharged in 1987.  In that year, he married a local girl.  That marriage fell apart later.

In the late 80s and early 90s,  Mr. Wallace has committed various crimes, including robbery.  It wasn't until 1990 that he killed Tashonda Bethea.  She was killed in February 1990.  Her badly decomposed body was found in a pond by two fishermen a month later.  Mr. Wallace was the suspect, yet the police let him off because of technical difficulties and that they didn't find evidence on him.  To me, Barnwell Police Department did a poor job in investigating Ms. Bethea's murder. From then on, he got into trouble at work, stealing items from Barnwell's radio station where he once worked as a DJ.

Sometime in 1992, he relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina. He found jobs at several fast-food restaurants in East Charlotte.  Most employers hired him on the spot because he was articulate and intelligent.

In May 1992, he picked up Sharon Nance, a convicted drug dealer and prostitute. When she demanded payment for her services, Wallace beat her to death, then dropped her body by the railroad tracks. She was found a few days later.

In June 1992, he raped and strangled Caroline Love at her apartment, then dumped her body in a wooded area. Love was a friend of Wallace's girl-friend.[1] After he killed her, he and her sister filed a missing person's report at the police station. It would be almost two years (March 1994) before her body was discovered in a wooded area in Charlotte.
On February 19, 1993, Wallace strangled Shawna Hawk at her home after first having sex with her, and later went to her funeral. Hawk worked at Taco Bell where Wallace was her supervisor. In March 1993, Hawk's mother, Dee Sumpter, and her godmother Judy Williams founded Mothers of Murder Offspring, a Charlotte-based support group for parents of murdered children.

On June 22, he raped and strangled coworker Audrey Spain, whom he once dated and even officiated as the DJ at her birthday party.  Her body was found two days later.

On August 10, 1993, Wallace raped and strangled Valencia M. Jumper -- a friend of his sister's -- then set her on fire to cover up his crime.] A few days after her murder, he and his sister went to Valencia's funeral.

A month later, in September 1993, he went to the apartment of Michelle Stinson, a struggling college student and single mother of two sons. Stinson was a friend of his from Taco Bell. He raped her and then some time later strangled and stabbed her in front of her oldest son.[1]

That October, his only child was born.

On February 4, 1994 Wallace was arrested for shoplifting, but police had not made a connection between him and the murders.

On February 20, 1994, Wallace strangled Vanessa Little Mack, one of his employees from Taco Bell, in her apartment. Mack had two daughters, aged seven and four months, at the time of her death.

On March 8, 1994, Wallace robbed and strangled Betty Jean Baucom. Baucom and Wallace's girlfriend were co-workers. Afterwards, he took valuables from the house, then he left the apartment with her car.[1] He pawned everything except the car, which he left at a shopping center.

Wallace went back to the same apartment complex on the night of March 8, 1994, knowing that Berness Woods would be at work so he could murder his girlfriend, Brandi June Henderson. Wallace raped Henderson while she held her baby, and then strangled her. He also strangled her son, but he survived. Afterwards, he took some valuables from the apartment and left.

The police beefed up patrols in east Charlotte after two bodies of young black women were found at The Lake apartment complex. Even so, Wallace sneaked through to rob and strangle Deborah Ann Slaughter, who had been a co-worker of his girl-friend, and stabbed her some 38 times in the stomach and chest.[1] Her body was found on March 12, 1994.

Wallace was arrested on March 13, 1994. For 12 hours, he confessed to the murders of 10 women in Charlotte. He described in detail, the women's appearances, how he raped, robbed and killed the women, and his crack habit.

From Charlotte Magazine:  1993:  Charlotte's Deadliest Year

"Two miles away, Dee Sumpter was happy to move to Elon Street that year. A single mother of four, she was thrilled to be buying a house. And although parts of the west side were sketchy, her block was close-knit, she says.
Aside from one burglary, the neighborhood was pretty quiet.
She and her 20-year-old daughter Shawna Hawk settled into life there. Dee worked as a receptionist and Shawna took classes at Central Piedmont Community College while also working at an east side Taco Bell. They watched TV and read the papers, even stumbled on a crime scene once driving to the grocery store. But the crime didn’t really touch their lives.
“That was something that happened to other people,” Sumpter says. “On February 19, 1993, I became ‘other people.’ ”
That’s the day she found Shawna strangled in the bathtub. It took more than a year for police to connect her murder to others, to figure out that someone was killing young black women who had worked in east side fast food restaurants. The homicide unit was stretched thin. And this serial killer had an unusual M.O. Shawna Hawk was Henry Louis Wallace’s third victim. He would kill seven more before confessing in March 1994.  Wallace had been Hawk’s boss at Taco Bell. He even showed up at her funeral.
Sumpter now describes the weeks and months after Shawna’s murder as the “pinnacle of pain. I remember lying in bed and thinking ‘I don’t want to be here anymore.’ ” Her lifelong friend Judy Williams thought Sumpter needed a new purpose. The pair, along with Williams’s son and present-day City Councilman David Howard, thought a support group for mothers of other murder victims could help channel some of their pain. So in March 1993, Mothers of Murdered Offspring (MOMO) started meeting.
Beyond supporting other victims’ families, Sumpter began to advocate for changes to police department procedures, saying detectives were not doing enough to solve Shawna’s murder and others. It was a tense relationship. She made some enemies on the force. But today, she says, her organization and the department’s homicide support group work together to help victims’ family members cope."

Here’s the article from Wikipedia below:

Henry Louis Wallace (November 4, 1965 - ) is an American serial killer who killed 10 young attractive Black women in Charlotte, N.C. from May 1992 until March 12, 1994.
Mr. Wallace behaviour toward women was chivalrous in public. However, he had another side to him when he killed his victims, usually at night and alone. The murdered young women knew and trusted him well enough to let him into their homes. He filed a missing person report on Caroline Love the day after she was missing, accompanying Love’s sister and Sadie McKnight to the police station in June 1992. Other victims were strangled or stabbed during his two-year reign of terror that wrecked East Charlotte.

He was arrested on March 13, 1994 after the bodies of three young women were found in East Charlotte. A crack addict, Wallace confessed to murdering 10 young Black women in Charlotte, N.C. between 1992 and 1994. He was arraigned on March 16, 1994. Some community leaders and activists as well as victims’ rights groups such as Mothers of Murdered Offspring complained to the press that Charlotte Police Department didn’t do much to solve the murders because the women were African American.
He was tried for the murders of nine women in 1996. Mr. Wallace was convicted and sentenced to death on January 29, 1997. He’s currently on death row at Central Prison.

Biography

Henry Louis Wallace was born in Barnwell, S.C., on November 4, 1965, son of Lottie Mae Wallace and a married school teacher who walked out on Lottie while pregnant with Henry and who never acknowledged his son. Mr. Wallace grew up in extreme poverty, with Lottie Mae working long hours as a textile worker. His mother was a harsh displinarian, constantly criticizing Henry for even the smallest mistakes. In spite of all this, he was a very popular high school student, having been elected to student council and an extremely popular male cheerleader at Barnwell High School in Barnwell, S.C. Mr. Wallace graduated from that school in 1983. He became a deejay for a local radio station in Barnwell. His smooth, sexy voice swayed women so much that earned him the nickname “The Night Rider.” He went to several colleges before joining the U.S. Navy in 1985. Wallace married his high school sweetheart, the former Maretta Brabham in 1987. In 1988, Wallace was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.

His Crimes

His criminal activities began while being stationed in the U.S. Navy . This is the time when he started experimenting with various drugs. In Washington State, he was served warrants for several burglaries in and around Seattle metro area. In January 1988, Mr. Wallace got into his first real trouble with police. He broke into a Bremerton garden and hardware store, and as he carted away a TV, videocassette recorder and microwave, police arrested him.
In June 1988, Wallace pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary. A judge sentenced him to two years of supervised probation. According to Probation officer Patrick Seaburg, Wallace didn’t show up for most mandatory meetings.

In early 1990, he met an 18-year old high school student Tashanda Bethea. He dated her for a while. In March 1990, Henry murdered Tashonda Bethea, then dumped her in a lake in Barnwell, S.C., his hometown. It wasn’t until weeks later that her body was discovered. He was questioned by the police regarding her disappearance and death. He was never formally charged in her murder. He was also questioned in connection with the attempted rape of a 16-year old Barnwell girl. She accuse Wallace of attempting to rape her at a local motel. However, his mother told the girl’s family to dropped the charges. He was never charged. By that time, his marriage to Maretta fell apart due to emotional and psychological toll. It was aroung that period that he was fired from his job as Chemical Operator for for Sandoz Chemical Co.
Things have gone from bad to worse for Mr. Wallace. In February 1991, he broke into his old high school and the radio station where he once worked. He stole video and recording equipment and was caught trying to pawn them.

In November 1991, he relocated to Charlotte, N. C. He found jobs at several fast-food restaurants in East Charlotte. Around the same time, he met various attractive young Black women whom he dated, one of them is Sadie McKnight. In May 1992, he picked up Sharon Nance, a convicted drug dealer and prostitute. When she demanded payment for her services, Henry mercilessly beat her to death, then dropped her body by the railroad tracks. She was found few days later. Then he sets his evil designs upon the lovely Caroline Love. He brutally strangled her at her apartment, then dumped her body in a wooded area. After he killed her, he and Caroline’s sisters filed a missing person’s report at the police station. It would be almost two years later (March 1994) before the police find her body. It would be nine months later before he killed again, this time setting his deadly designs at this beautiful princess.

Mr. Wallace went looking for Shawna Denise Hawk in February 1993. He murdered her after visiting her at her home on February 19, 1993. Ms. Hawk was a college student studying to become a paralegal at the time of her death. He was once her boss at Taco Bell in East Charlotte. In January 1993, a month before Shawna was murdered, Mr. Wallace went to the wrong house looking for Ms. Hawk, but found a then 10-year old girl home alone. He ran around the back of her house and jumped over the fence. The girl feared for her safety. Shawna came to the girl’s rescue and offer to babysit for her until her parents came home. Ms. Hawk did this until two weeks before her untimely death. Mr. Wallace may have been stalking Shawna since January 1993. He came to Shawna’s funeral in late February. He offered his sympathy to her mother. A month later, March 1993, Shawna’s mother, Dee Sumpter and her godmother Judy Williams founded Mothers of Murder Offspring, a Charlotte-based support group for parents who lost their children to murder.

Three months has passed and this time he claimed another victim he knew. This time he targeted his friend and co-worker Audrey Spain. He killed her on June 22. Her friends were looking for her when she didn’t show up for work at Taco Bell. Her body was found two days later.

A little over a month later, on August 10, 1993, Mr. Wallace strikes again, this time taking young, ambitious, and very popular college student Valencia M. Jumper. She was the sister of Vanessa Jumper and was a good friend of Henry’s sister, Yvonne. He came over to her house that night because of difficulties with his girlfriend. He wanted to be consoled that night. Instead, he strangled Valencia, then set her on fire to cover up his crime. A few days after the murder, he and his sister went to Valencia’s funeral.

A month later, in September 1993, he went to the apartment of Michelle Stinson, a struggling college student and single mother of two sons. He strangled and stabbed her in front of her oldest son. She was his last victim of 1993.

As community pressure mounted in the wake of Charlotte’s high crime rate, Mr. Wallace took a break from criminal activity. One reason is the birth of his only child in October. Another is that community activists were protesting the lack of concern regarding Black crime victims in Northern and Eastern Charlotte neighborhoods. They contended that the police didn’t solve the murders of Blacks aggressively as they have done with White victims in South Charlotte and that the police and the general community didn’t care for the safety of residents who had to live in such crime-ridden areas.

On February 20, the day after the anniversary of Shawna Hawk’s death and Dee Sumpter’s pleas to the media to help solve her daughter’s murder, Mr. Wallace killed Vanessa Little Mack in her apartment. His crack habit was very strong at the time and he was on the lookout for money to support the habit. He targeted Ms. Mack because she had a good job and income. Her mother-in-law, Barbara Rippy found her dead. Her four-month old daughter was alright. Ms. Mack had two daughters, aged seven and fourn months at the time of her death.
On March 8, 1994, Mr. Wallace went to the apartment of his longtime friend Vernon Lamar Woods, with the intention of robbing, raping and murdering Woods’s girlfriend, Brandi Henderson. Brandi was the mother of 10-month old Tareese Woods. Brandi, Vernon, and Mr. Wallace once worked at the Golden Corral and have been good friends since. Brandi’s boyfriend was home, foiling his motive in coming over there in the first place. He realized he knew someone else that lived in the apartment complex: His girlfriend’s best friend.

Betty Jean Baucom, who worked with his girlfriend Sadie McKnight at Bojangles. Betty was the assistant manager. When Betty Jean Baucom answered the door on that same day, Wallace told her he needed to use her phone. She was more than glad to help her friend, Sadie McKnight who was Henry’s boyfriend. He demanded keys, the safe, and the alarm code for Bojangles in order to rob the place to support his drug addiction. Baucom resisted, refusing to give them to him. Finally, she surrendered. According to Wallace’s confession, Baucom stood up and told him that she forgave him. Wallace strangled her to death. Afterwards, he took valuables from the house. Then he left the apartment with her car. He pawned everything except the car, which he left at a shopping center.

Mr. Wallace went back to the same apartment complex on the night of March 8,1994, knowing that Vernon Woods would be at work so he could murder his girlfriend Brandi June Henderson. Earlier in the day he came to the couple’s house admiring the new entertainment center the couple bought with their income tax refund money. Wallace strangled Henderson that night. Tarresse cried loudly. That startled Mr. Wallace. He then went to the couple’s bathroom to get a towel. He tied it tightly around the Tarreese’s neck. Then he took the valuables inside the apartment and left afterwards.

The police beefed up patrols in east Charlotte after two bodies of young Black women were found in the same apartment complex. While the police patrolling the neighborhood, Mr. Wallace stopped by at an apartment of a woman he knew before.

It was Deborah Ann Slaughter. Ms. Slaughter, who relocated from Atlanta the year before and a mother of an 18-year-old son. She used to worked at Bojangles, where his girlfriend worked. He came to her house asking for money for drugs. He stabbed and strangled her. Then he stole a few things upon leaving the apartment. Her body was found March 12, 1994.
Wallace was arrested on March 13, 1994. For 12 hours, he confessed to the murders of 10 Black women in Charlotte. He described the womens’ appearances, how he raped, robbed and killed the women in detailed descriptions, and of his crack habit.

The Aftermath and Criticism

On March 13,1994, Henry Louis Wallace was arrested for killing 10 young women. Charlotte’s police chief congratulated his arrest, reassuring the community that the women of East Charlotte are safe, now that the killer is behind bars. Many people, especially in the Black community wondered why the murders weren’t solved soon enough and that Charlotte Police didn’t consider the murders of 10 young Black women between 1992 and 1994 high on the priority list. As Shawna Denise Hawk’s mother, Dee Sumpter said concerning police neglect:
the victims “weren’t prominent people with social-economic status. They weren’t special. And they were black. "

Charlotte’s police chief, Rod Steiger was stumped by a serial killer in their midst. He said he wasn’t aware of a killer until early March 1994 when three young Black women were murdered within four days of each other. Charlotte Police Department apologized to its residents for not spotting a link among the murders sooner. However, they said the murder cases varied enough to throw them off Wallace’s trail. Until the Mr. Wallace’s murder pace picked up in the early weeks of March 1994, the deaths were sporadic and not entirely similar. It was only in the week of March 9, 1994 that Charlotte Police warned the people in East Charlotte that there was a serial killer on the loose.

One young lady said that the police didn’t care because the police viewed the young female murder victims as “fast girls who hang out a lot.” The victims were not the type. They were described by both the press and family members as pretty, hardworking, and serious young women. Others said the reason why the police didn’t take the murder cases serious because the women were both working class and Black.

Inside The Trial
After two years of hearing confessions, debates on whether to hold the trial in Charlotte, the DNA evidence from murdered victims, and the jury selection, his trial began in September 1996. In the opening arguments, the prosecutor argues for the death penaly while the defense attorney pleaded for life sentence for Mr. Wallace. The prosecutor told the jurors to sympathize with the victims and that Mr. Wallace’s crimes were heinous and cruel, while the defense urge them to consider Mr. Wallace dire circumstances and his mental illness as mitigating factors in giving him life in prison instead of the death penalty.

In the opening argument, the Assistant District Attorney Marsha Goodenow urge the jury to think about the victims and how they died heinously by Mr. Wallace. She told the jurors that the victims have several things in common:

“They were African American women, all young, all very attractive, she said. “They all knew the defendant and they all died at his hands. "

Public Defender Isabel Day told the victims’ families and jurors that Mr. Wallace was a man driven by hideous fantasies and disabled by mental illness rooted in childhood. Furthermore, Ms. Day said defense evidence will show that the killings were not first-degree murder because they didn’t result from “premeditation and deliberation.

According to FBI serial murder expert Robert Ressler:

“If he elected to become a serial killer, he was going about it in the wrong way,’ said Robert Ressler, one of the “Mr. Wallace always seemed to take one step forward and two steps back,” Ressler testified. ‘He would take items and put them in the stove to destroy them by burning them and then forget to turn the stove on.”

Psychologist Faye Sultan testified during the trial that Mr. Wallace was constant victim of physical and mental abuse from his mother since birth and that he suffered from mental illness at the time of the killings. Ms. Sultan argues for life sentence without parole instead of the death penalty.

Ms. Goodenow argued that Mr. Wallace deserved death because he is a calculating, cold-blooded killer who preyed on friends and co-workers and hid his crimes by cleaning up murder scenes.
Defense attorneys, Day and Cooney, on the other hand, did not dispute the fact that Mr. Wallace killed the nine young Black women. They argued he was mentally ill and drug addicted at the time of the killings, driven by obsessional sexual fantasies that rendered him incapable of forming the intent to kill. Ms. Day and Mr. Cooney wanted a second-degree murder conviction in hopes of avoiding a death sentence.

On January 7, 1997, he was found guilty of nine murders and on January 29, 1997, he was sentenced to nine consecutive death sentences. Mr. Wallace said nothing during his trial for murdering and raping nine women. After being sentenced to death, he broke his silence to apologize to the victims’ families.

“None of these women, none of your daughters, mothers, sisters or family mem
bers in any way deserved what they got. They did nothing to me that warranted their death,”

Wiping tears, Wallace sat down as George Burrell, Brandi June Henderson’s cousin shouted:
“Why did you kill them?”

After The Trial
On June 5, 1998, Henry Louis Wallace, was married to a former prison nurse, Rebecca Torrijas, in a ceremony next to the execution chamber where he has been sentenced to die. Mecklenburg County public defender Isabel Day, served as an official witness and photographer. Also attending was the manager of the death-row unit at the prison.

Since being sentenced to death in 1997, Mr. Wallace has been appealing to the courts to overturn the death sentences, stating that his confessions were coerced and his constitutional rights were violated in the process.

In 2005, Superior Court Judge Charles Lamm rejected Wallace’s latest appeal to overturn his convictions and nine death sentences, moving him another step closer to execution.
The legal battle to save Wallace, now 41, has already been through the state and federal courts. The N.C. Supreme Court upheld the death sentences in 2000. The U.S. Supreme Court in 2001 denied his appeal. Lamm’s rejection is the first in a second round of appeals that will likely wind through state and federal courts again in the next few years.

No execution date is being set for Mr. Wallace to this day.
