Former Miss USA committed suicide after facing an onslaught of taunts from cyberbullies and cyberstalkers.
Cheslie Kryst jumped from a Midtown Manhattan high-rise on Sunday. Before her death, she posted on social media "May this day bring you rest and peace."
The 2019 pageant winner and 30-year old lawyer jumped from a 60-story luxury complex called the Orion. She was found dead in the street below.
"In devastation and great sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved Cheslie," the family said in a statement. "Her great light was one that inspired others around the world and her beauty and strength. She cared, she loved, she laughed and she shined."
"Cheslie embodied love and served others, whether through her work as an attorney fighting for social justice, as Miss USA and as a host on Extra. But most importantly as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague -- we know her impact will live on."
Cheslie lived on the ninth floor of the Orion. From video footage they seen her jump from the 29th floor terrace.
Kryst's life was tragic. |
In her note, she said that she wanted to leave everything to her mother. The note did not include a motive.
"Not only beautiful but she was smart -- she was a lawyer," a police source said of Cheslie. "She has a life that anyone would be jealous of. ... It's so sad."
