Fox takes Gumby to the fold. |
Art Clokey's iconic clay boy Gumby is being bought by Fox Entertainment.
Fox Entertainment is a division of News Corp is acquiring Gumby from the estate of Art Clokey. His son Joseph Clokey has announced that all intellectual properties including "film, TV and streaming, consumer products, licensing, publishing and all other categories" will be allocated to Fox Entertainment. It will start streaming episodes of Gumby on Tubi.
While I am not fond of the Fox Network purchasing an iconic figure like Gumby, it is going to hopefully bring him back to greatness.
Eddie Murphy portrayed Gumby on Saturday Night Live. In his role as Gumby, the sweet lovable clay boy would turn into a irascible, cigar-chomping celebrity who was highly demanding of the production executives.
"I'm Gumby dammit!"
Gumby, Pokey, Prickle and Goo are getting revamped by Fox. |
It helped revive Gumby in the 1980s and Clokey found Murphy's performance funny.
Gumby, his best friend, an orange pony named Pokey along with a yellow dinosaur Prickle and a morphing blue mermaid named Goo were a part of my childhood. They traveled through environments and times in history.
Gumby's nemeses are G and J, the red Blockheads. They often cause trouble for the hero and his friends.
You can watch some of Gumby's Adventures on YouTube.
