Beloved legal analysis for MSNBC and CNN passed away at the age of 47. Her law firm and family confirmed that that Midwin Charles has passed away.
"It is with a profoundly heavy heart and the deepest sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved Midwin Charles. She was known to many as a legal commentator on television but to us, she was a devoted daughter, aunt, niece, and cousin. Our lives are forever changed and we will miss her for a lifetime. The family thanks you in advance for your love and prayers," said the family in a statement.
The attorney's death was not mention but her family said that she was the founder of the law firm Midwin Charles & Associates, LLC and was a contributor to Essence Magazine.
She was a progressive agitator who often appeared on AM Joy, The Reidout and many other programs.
Sympathies were pouring out from Sonny Hostin, Joy Reid, Tiffany Cross, Laura Coates, Don Lemon, Yamiche Alcindor, Yvette Nicole Brown, Patricia Arquette and so many others.
Vice President Kamala Harris' sister and niece also shared their sympathies. Maya Harris, the vice president's sister and her daughter Meena offered their thoughts to their longtime friend and "sister."
White House Deputy Press Secretary and former progressive agitator Karine Jean-Pierre also shared her thoughts on her friend and fellow Haitian-American.
"This one hit really hard today. Rest in Power Sis, Midwin Charles," Jean-Pierre wrote on social media.
Charles was born in Brooklyn before earning her bachelor's degree from Syracuse University, then studying law at American University.
She founded her law firm, Midwin Charles & Associates in Brooklyn, New York. She has appeared on numerous programs on CNN, MSNBC, HLN, Court TV, Bloomberg and Newsone.

The seventh day. The trial for the former Minneapolis cop who is accused of murdering George Floyd.
The former cop is accused of reckless homicide which is being classified as second and third degree murder. The cop placed his goddamn knee on the neck of Floyd and it cut his circulation.
No matter what George Floyd did, he didn't not deserve the treatment he gotten from the Minneapolis Police.
The dirty cop claims he had no role in the death of Floyd. The cop's lawyers are going to use Floyd's history with drugs and his previous criminal history as a reason to why he died.
The incident happened in May 2020. The Minneapolis Police responded to a possible strong arm robbery on the basis of a customer passing a phony $20 at Cup Foods, a local grocer that Floyd frequently visited.
Floyd and his associate were pulled over by this dirty cop. He would cordially engage with Floyd but it quickly turned into an escalated confrontation which led to the deadly encounter.
Today, we're going to hear more from witnesses, the dirty cop's supervisors and the chief of the Minneapolis Police Medaria Arradondo.
Yesterday's testimony from Arradondo could be very damaging to the dirty cop.
During the trial, some court observers saw a juror allegedly sleeping. That could be grounds for a mistrial or jury dismissal. There appears to be jurors looking distracted from the testimony.
This has been a very emotional trial. The death of George Floyd has touched the nation. His death was an outright lynching. For that cop to put his goddamn knee on that man's neck is so infuriating.
That was directly a violation of civil rights and reckless homicide.
Over a fake bill.
The guy who was with Floyd also could be implicated in the matter. This witness refuses to testify because he could be arrested after he takes the bench.
Police Chief Medaria Arradondo gave damning testimony.
Morries Hall could be indicted for the death of Floyd. The defense wants to pin the murder on him.
Allegedly, Hall gave Floyd the counterfeit money to go into the store. He also invoked his fifth amendment right to self-incriminate. Hall may have been a dope pusher as well. The defense will ask Hall if he provided drugs to Floyd.
The court is listening to current and former Minneapolis Police officers on training.
The trial has taken an impact on the jury. They're going to decide whether this dirty cop was reckless in placing his knee on the neck of Floyd. They are going to decide whether his failure to render aid to a man in distress is grounds for homicide.

Florida Democratic lawmaker Alcee Hastings passed away. The 84-year old lawmaker, civil rights activist and longest-serving member of Florida's congressional delegation passed away from cancer.
His chief of staff, Lale M. Morrison confirmed the news today.
He said that he was being treated for pancreatic cancer in January 2019. He remained in Congress during his treatment. He said that it was "a battle worth fighting."
His death was first reported by the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Hastings first began serving in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1993 and has been a long serving member of the House Rules Committee and the Congressional Black Caucus.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) paid tribute to the congressman in a statement saying, "All who knew Alcee knew him as a champion for the most vulnerable in our nation."
"As an attorney, civil rights activist and judge, and over his nearly 30 years in Congress, he fought tirelessly to create opportunities to lift up working families, communities of color, children and immigrants," Pelosi said.
The Congressional Black Caucus said in a statement that Hastings was "a pioneer and leading voice in the fight for civil and voting rights."
Hastings passed away from terminal pancreatic cancer.
With the passing of Hastings, the House Democratic majority becomes slimmer. There are 218 members of the Democratic side and 211 of the Republican side. There are six vacancies.
President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Gov. Ron DeSantis, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) and Florida's congressional delegation were informed about Hastings passing.
Before Congress, Hastings was a federal judge appointed by Jimmy Carter. He was charged with conspiracy and perjury. He was accused of accepting bribes while working under the bench.The House impeached him and the Senate removed him as a federal judge in 1989. He would rebuild his image and run for Congress in 1992.
Hastings had said controversial things during his time in office. He is called the poorest member of Congress.
Due to the fees owed for his removal as a federal judge, he was called the "Poorest Member of Congress."
He was accused of sexual harassment towards a female staffer. He was being investigated for that.
He was accused of paying the salaries and fees of his family members. He would pay his girlfriend, Patricia Williams, fees for working under his whelm.
He said remarks about white nationalist Sarah Palin.
"If Sarah Palin isn't enough of a reason for you to get over whatever your problem is with Barack Obama, then you damn well better pay attention. Anybody toting guns and stripping moose don't care too much about what they do with Jews and Blacks. So, you just think this through.
He represented the 20th Congressional District in Florida. His district covers the majority Black precincts around Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. It also goes inland into the southeastern shores of Lake Okeechobee. The district is SAFE DEMOCRAT.
He leaves behind three children and numerous grandchildren.
The race is getting interesting. Nina Turner's opponent is gaining momentum.

Democratic special election primary for Ohio's 11th Congressional District is set for August.
Whomever wins the primary will likely win the special election will become the nominee and win the general election to fulfill the seat vacated by Marcia Fudge.
Marcia Fudge was confirmed to be the first African American woman to lead the Department of Housing and Urban Development. She is from the Cleveland suburb of Shaker Heights. She is a well-known figure in Northeastern Ohio.
She is a trailblazer for women of color and will do a fine job to fix the mess her predecessor, Dr. Benjamin Carson left her. The work is needed to get housing back on the right track.
Now the race is likely going to be in favor of the Democrats. But which one?
I already made my choice and I'm standing by that.
It appears that former Ohio state senator turned leftist agitator Nina Turner does have a challenger who could pull a major upset.
I said in many postings that I favor Shontel A. Brown. The Cuyahoga County District official is raising money and is putting in the work.
Turner who has the backing of the far-left agitators, the Justice Democrats, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) and Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) is hoping to win over Ohioans.
She is most notorious for starting fires. The fires are burning her badly.
Brown who is relatively unknown is being labeled "establishment," "centrist" and "political tool" by the leftists. She is being criticized by far-left agitators for being too experienced and not endorsing Medicare for All (M4A).
Brown is getting backing from local representatives and officials. She also got the endorsement of Fudge's friend and Black Congressional Caucus chair, Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH).
I had said that Brown has gain traction. I mean she's pulled in over $680,000 in donations and has over $550,000 cash on hand. Many are coming from small donations and it seems like her stock in this race is growing.
The leftists are hoping to secure a seat that is fairly liberal. But Turner's perchance for drama is likely going to be her downfall.
As many Democrats were rallying behind Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for winning the presidency, Turner infamously told a publication that voting for Biden is like eating a "half-a-bowl of shit."
Turner's campaign confirms that she pulled in $2.4 million in campaign donations.
That will be the only thing that could make it difficult for Turner to win over support. Black voters aren't monolithic and we know who's the grifter in this race.
Turner is a chaos agent and not suited for the job of being a legislator.
Turner's opponent is Shontel Brown. She could pull an upset.
We don't want a television fame chasing lawmaker like Ocasio-Cortez, Omar, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
Ocasio-Cortez, 31 is ranked one of the least productive lawmakers in Washington. She may speak on issues that progressives support but her strategy is catnip for the far-right.
Jaime Harrison, the chief of the Democratic National Committee said that messaging from the party's political allies on the left have affect many closely watched races. Harrison vows to change the tone of the Democrats. He wants to work to keep the party focused on making Biden's agenda successful.
We're not doing Sanders or Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-CA) agenda. We are doing Biden's agenda.
Turner wants to do what the Democrats fear.... cause more problems for them going to the general election.

The death of Mohammad Anwar touched the nation. The hatred towards Asian Americans and Muslims has increased since Washed Up 45's term. I mean it was bad, but with this pandemic and folks getting tired of being sheltered and wearing face masks, it's starting to take a toll on folks.
Also, the former president calling it the "China virus" and "Kung flu" weren't helpful to the cause.
President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have vowed to pass reforms when it comes to guns, racism, and police brutality. It's a tall order given that the Democrats only have a slim majority in the House and Senate. The two white nationalists who side with the Democrats, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona are part of the gridlock machine. They along with the white nationalist Republicans and enabler Tim Scott of South Carolina are refusing to change the status quo.
They are pretty content with racism and white supremacy.
It appears that the 13 and 15 year old girl may take a plea deal in the death of Anwar. In March, the two tried to rob the Springfield, Virginia man who delivered for Uber Eats. The 62-year old father of two and grandfather of four was being strong armed by the two Black teens.
The two teens would tried to push him out the vehicle. As they started the vehicle, one grabbed a Taser and shocked him and force him to drive the vehicle erratically. The vehicle crashed into parked cars and landed on it side.
Anwar was thrown from the vehicle and hit a gate. The two teens were freed from the vehicle. A handful of National Guardsmen in the area saw the two and detained them.

In the video shown (which is extremely graphic), the body of Anwar was laying on the ground and the teens were more concerned about their goddamn phones.
The two reached a deal with the city prosecutors which could keep them in juvie until their 21 years old.
Two Black girls carjack a Uber driver and killed him in an accident. The two are trying to work a deal to not get LIFE in the iron college.
On top of that, the two are not out of the woods. The judge, Lynn Leibovitz can decide whether the plea deal is acceptable. Because the judge can deny the plea deal and make it an adult criminal trial. The names of the two will be released to the public and they could face LIFE in the iron college if convicted.
The two will be in juvie before transferred to an iron college.
The two are from the Washington, DC area.
The far-right salivated over this. From the likes of Colin Flaherty to Andy Ngo to Candace Owens and even Donald Trump, Jr., they were putting the blame on Biden and the Black community.
It's true that a handful of incidents involving Asian Americans and immigrants being attacked are coming from Black people. But a majority of the latest mass shootings and attacks are done by whites.
And besides, the insurrection back in January disqualifies any of these agitators' defense of the police or lives that died in acts of senseless violence.
The suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Bystander Darnella Frazier's graphic video showing the dirty cop kneeling on Floyd last May 25 while he repeatedly said he couldn't breathe has been played in court several times, but a medical ruling on cause of death is still crucial to the case, some attorneys said.
Prosecutors have yet to call Baker or their medical experts to the witness stand. Blackwell told jurors they would hear from "a number of experts" and pathologist Dr. Lindsey Thomas.
"This is going to be the most fascinating part of the trial," said defense attorney Tom Heffelfinger, a former assistant Hennepin County attorney and U.S. attorney for the district of Minnesota. "Every one of those people they put on just creates a little more doubt. It makes it easier to argue about the cause of death, and you've got to have a cause of death."
Medical examiners in Minnesota work independently of law enforcement and prosecutors. They determine the cause and manner of death, but make no determination about legal culpability.
However, as the authority legally mandated to perform autopsies and issue reports about sudden, suspicious or unexpected deaths, their findings historically form the bedrock of criminal cases and are largely undisputed by prosecutors.
"It seemed to me that essentially the prosecution is going to take the position that Dr. Baker's autopsy report is incorrect or can be explained more clearly," said Mitchell Hamline School of Law emeritus professor Prof. Joe Daly. "It's extremely unusual … to cast doubt on your own medical examiner."
Baker's findings that Floyd's cause of death was "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression" sparked public outrage when they were released last June 1. Many, including attorneys for Floyd's family, believed Floyd died of asphyxiation and criticized Baker's ruling. An emergency fence and concrete barricades were erected around Baker's downtown Minneapolis office two days after he issued his results; they remain standing.
Baker listed hardening and thickening of the artery walls, heart disease and drug use as "other significant conditions." Fentanyl and methamphetamine were also found in Floyd's system.
Baker ruled the manner of death a homicide, a death that occurs at the hands of another person.
Baker reviewed his findings in a meeting last December with the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, which is prosecuting the case.
"[I]t appeared to Dr. Baker that the pressure to the neck was coming from the back or posterior lateral portions of the back, and none of these strictures would impact breathing or cause loss of consciousness," said a document summarizing the meeting. " … Dr. Baker found it important that Floyd had narrowing of coronary arteries: 75-80% narrowed. This would put him at risk for a sudden cardiac arrest."
In the meeting Baker, reportedly cited a study that found that placing 200 pounds of weight or more on a healthy person did not have an "observable impact on breathing."
He reportedly referenced a recent study that said positional restraint did not lead to "ventilatory or cardiac failure."
"Dr. Baker offered that one possibility for the pathway of Floyd's death is that Floyd's heart was starting to fail because of the stress, drugs, enlarged heart, and [heart] disease," said a summary of the meeting. "He said that once the heart starts to fail … one of the symptoms is the perception that you cannot breathe."
Nelson told jurors they would hear about "several" interviews between Baker and investigators, "and some of this evidence is extremely important to the final determination of Mr. Floyd's cause of death."
Blackwell directed jurors to Frazier's video in building his case for cause of death.
"I would tell you that you can believe your own eyes that it's a homicide, it's murder," Blackwell said. "You can believe your own eyes."
Prosecutors don't have to prove that dirty cop's actions alone caused Floyd's death, according to Minnesota guidelines for jury instructions. According to the state and the defense's proposed jury instructions, "'To cause' means to be a substantial causal factor in causing the death. … The fact that other causes contribute to the death does not relieve the defendant of criminal liability."
Being restrained and pressed upon while lying flat on your stomach can restrict the intake of oxygen and output of carbon dioxide, and reduce blood flow through the heart, leading to a fatal cardiac arrest, said cardiologist Dr. Alon Steinberg, chief of cardiology and medicine at Community Memorial Hospital, based in California.
Steinberg, who recently published a paper reviewing scientific literature on prone restraint, described Floyd's death as a "prone restraint cardiac arrest."
"When people are in prone restraint and they die, it's more accurate that it's a cardiopulmonary arrest as [Baker] says," said Steinberg. "It's not asphyxia."
Prone restraint prevents the rib cage and diaphragm from expanding, thereby reducing breathing ability and causing a dangerous build up of carbon dioxide in the body that is a "much bigger issue" than the lack of oxygen, he said. An accumulation of the waste gas causes metabolic acidosis, or, an overproduction of acid, he added.

Steinberg said the cop's kneeling on Floyd's neck could have also reduced blood flow from the head into the heart, and one of his fellow dirty cop's kneeling on Floyd's back could have reduced blood flow from the lower body into the heart.
Three other dirty cops are each charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter in the case and are scheduled to be tried Aug. 23. All four defendants, who were fired, are out on bond.
Asphyxiation is commonly used to describe such deaths, Steinberg said, adding that they often don't leave behind evidence of physical damage in the heart or in the body's tissues.
"It [is] more complex than [asphyxiation], and death is due to multiple factors including acidosis, decreased cardiac output and decrease in ventilation," he said.
Blackwell told jurors Thomas will testify about the "limitations of pathology" and address how, in over half of deaths from a lack of oxygen, no evidence is left behind in the body's tissues.
It could pose a risk to the prosecution's case to distance themselves from the in-house medical expert, said defense attorney Mike Padden.
"It absolutely can be a problem because he's the doctor who did the autopsy," Padden said. "They're making a strategy decision that they're moving completely away from him."

The latest police shooting in the United States. Again, a never ending theme here on Journal de la Reyna is the “What Happened To” postings. I often do these postings in regards to the latest incident involving a person of color being either killed by gun or racially motivated violence.
Adam Toledo's mother is distraught over her son being killed by the police.
Everyday, we still see these incidents of people of color being shot and killed by the police. Time after time, law enforcement seem to be never held accountable for shooting Black men and women. It's always the cop's word over the dead body.
I hope that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris work on police reform.
These stories involve police shootings in which people of color are either injured or killed.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot is calling for a complete investigation into whether Chicago Police were justified in using deadly force on a 13-year old boy. The Chicago Police claim that Adam Toledo was armed when they shot and killed him.
His grieving mother said that her son wanted to be a Chicago cop. Now she sees his dream and life shatter by the very people she said he looked up to.
Think about how Tamir Rice felt that day when a Cleveland cop shot him within seconds of exiting his patrol car. The cop who had little experience lied in his report about shooting a boy at close range. The cop and his partner's claims were "they feared for their lives."
Chicago Police won't release the deadly shooting.

Young Latino boy who lived in the Little Village. The Chicago Police confirm that the boy was shot and killed by the law around 2:30am. Their ShotSpotter determined shots were fired in the area of 21st and Sawyer.
The cops arrived and saw two individuals. They ended up running away. One of the cops shot Toledo in the chest and he died at the scene.
They claimed that the armed individual was the victim that died. They said they retrieved a firearm on the scene. The other person who also ran from the law was arrested. The person was charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest.
The officer was placed in the freezer and the Chicago Civilian Office of Police Accountability, the agency that handles police misconduct and officer involved shootings said that they are investigating.
Lightfoot has demanded the police to show the body camera footage.
Officials said an officer shot the person, later identified as Toledo, in the chest. The 13-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
The second person, who police identified as 21-year-old Ruben Roman Jr., was taken into custody.
Despite earlier claims that video would not be made public due to a state law preventing video involving a juvenile from being released without a court order, Chicago's Office of Police Accountability said the law does not in fact prohibit the release of the "troubling footage" showing Toledo's fatal shooting.
Another young life lost to senseless gun violence.
COPA said it will meet with the 13-year-old's family sometime next week to review the body camera footage.
"We're done playing all these antics with COPA and all this," said Little Village resident Enrique Enriquez. “We want that tape played."
It's unclear when the video will be released to the public, but Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown have called for the video's release to ensure transparency and trust. COPA said city policy requires the video to be released within 60 days of the incident.
"We're going to be out here every day until that tape is released," Enriquez said. "The community will not stop, and the family will not stop."
What happens when cops see a person of color with a firearm?

Tawanda Crowell hired Benjamin Crump to handle a matter that involved the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and a local Publix. The incident happened last week and it's getting national attention.
Publix workers called the law on a woman. They claimed that she shoplifted out of a store. It turns out they made a mistake. Now she's suing.
Crowell was leaving a Publix in Jacksonville when she was stopped by a metro police officer. The officer got a call on a report of shoplifting and they fingered Crowell as the person involved.
So he approaches her vehicle and ask for the woman to show her receipt. The situation quickly escalated when Crowell said that she didn't steal from the store and she doesn't have to show a receipt.
The cop gave her multiple times to show the receipt and warned her if she didn't comply she would be arrested. Crowell again stated that she didn't steal and demanded to see his supervisor and stated that she was wrongly detained. She said that she would go into the store with the cop to prove to the store that she didn't steal.
The situation would turn into an arrest. The cop deploys his Taser. It shocks Crowell and she falls on her face. Crowell was reportedly shocked with a Taser and knocked to the ground in front of her young goddaughter and nieces. She had a receipt for her purchase.
She would soon be arrested and forced to spend a night in the Duval County lockup. The state prosecutor dropped the case against her.
The cop was cleared of any wrongdoing. JSO has since identified the officer as Officer K. Munger.
"This incident and actions by the officer were investigated by the Internal Affairs Unit by way of a formal complaint," said The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. "Officer K. Munger’s actions were cleared by way of the body-worn camera video."
Now that she is out of the county, she hired an attorney and is suing the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office and Publix for the whole ordeal.
Crump left Minneapolis to come to Jacksonville. He is the lawyer for George Floyd's family.
The lawsuit alleged that Crowell told the officer that he lacked probable cause to ask for her grocery receipt and did not give it to him for fear he might destroy it.
Crowell was then shocked with a Taser and knocked to the ground in front of her young goddaughter and nieces, the lawsuit alleges.
Attorney Benjamin Crump says that although the arresting officer found the receipt verifying her purchase of the food, she was still arrested and was jailed for 24 hours.
Publix's communications director for Florida responded to First Coast News' request for comment in an email: "We do not comment on pending litigation."
