The family of a 10-year old boy is suing a Michigan police department after two of its officers arrested a boy and pointed a gun directly at him. 

The mother of the child said that the department violated her son's rights by pointing a gun at him and arresting him.

Makia Dixson said that the Pittsfield Township Police officer had encountered the boy's father in April 2021. This incident occurred after the boy's father was ordered by cops to drive away from the scene of a shooting that was cordoned off by them He drove on the wrong side of the road, which prompt a police chase. The chase reached speeds of 100 mph and finally ended peacefully. 

The cops would soon restrain the motorist and his son. 

The family of the boy and protesters demand accountability.

The lawsuit filed in federal court on October 5 argues that the Pittsfield Township officer, who is not identified as of yet, caused emotional injury to the child and the family is asking for $400,00 in punitive damages.

Dixson said her son rarely goes outside and doesn't even want to do things that most boys do like ride his bicycle and play sports. He fears that the cops could pull him over and arrest him for nothing.

"He sits in the house all the time now," Dixson said.

"He really doesn't want to go outside."

The lawsuit filing says that the officer violated the civil rights of her son when he pointed a loaded service weapon at him and put him in handcuffs -- while the boy trembled and desperately clutched his phone.

The altercation began after a reported shooting at the Briarwood Mall in Ann Arbor, which led to the police presence.

In body camera video, the boy's father is literally yelling at the cop and saying "That's my fucking son!" 

"Why is he handcuffed? Why the fuck you have my son in handcuffs?"

The department had no comment to the lawsuit. They are likely going to roll out an excuse to why they did it and place the blame squarely on the father and say that the child could have potentially been dangerous had they not restrained him.
