In the latest of the Regrets here on Journal de la Reyna, we have a new strain worse than the delta variant of the coronavirus. There are reports that the omicron variant is spreading across the world. American scientists believe it's here in the United States.

We have surpassed over 800,000 Americans dead from the coronavirus. We are expected to hit 900,000 by mid-December.

Get vaccinated.

Anyway, reports from South Africa state that this new mutation of the coronavirus has been a cause of concern for world scientists. For Republicans, enough is enough, let's us be free of the mask mandates, the vaccine mandates and oh "Let's Go Brandon."

The Republicans have no ability to govern as a party. Their sole purpose is to "own the libs" and "stop Biden at all costs." 

We are slowly returning back to normal but the coronavirus is still here. Inflation has impacted our economy despite the unemployment rate being at record lows and a scene of normality has came back to the United States.

However, there are over 78 million adults here in the country not vaccinated. There are 155 million who are vaccinated once. There are 45 million who are fully vaccinated but got a booster shot. 

Researchers in South Africa are racing to track the concerning rise of a new variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes COVID-19. The variant harbours a large number of the mutations found in other variants, including Delta, and it seems to be spreading quickly across South Africa.

A top priority is to follow the variant more closely as it spreads: it was first identified in Botswana earlier this month and has since turned up in a traveller arriving in Hong Kong from South Africa. Scientists are also trying to understand the variant’s properties, such as whether it can evade immune responses triggered by vaccines and whether it causes more or less severe disease than other variants do.

“We’re flying at warp speed,” says Penny Moore, a virologist at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, whose lab is gauging the variant’s potential to dodge immunity from vaccines and previous infections. There are anecdotal reports of reinfections and of cases in vaccinated individuals, but “at this stage it’s too early to tell anything”, Moore adds.

“There’s a lot we don’t understand about this variant,” Richard Lessells, an infectious-diseases physician at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, said at a press briefing organized by South Africa’s health department on 25 November. “The mutation profile gives us concern, but now we need to do the work to understand the significance of this variant and what it means for the response to the pandemic.”

On November 26, the World Health Organization (WHO) designated the strain, known as B.1.1.529, as a variant of concern and named it Omicron, on the advice of scientists who are part of the WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on SARS-CoV-2 Virus Evolution. Omicron joins Delta, Alpha, Beta and Gamma on the current WHO list of variants of concern.

Researchers also want to measure the variant’s potential to spread globally — possibly sparking new waves of infection or exacerbating ongoing rises being driven by Delta.

Republicans have fought the mandates since the early beginning of the coronavirus. With President Joe Biden in office, it's been nonstop opposition to mandates and lawsuits. Many are claiming its tyranny for the federal government to implicate vaccine mandates.

They have villainized Dr. Anthony Fauci. Ever since he been in the public eye, he's became a focus of ire from the far-right and many Republicans want him imprisoned for doing his job.

The mixed messages coming from the federal government has also made it difficult to get this under control. Biden had promised that the pandemic would be over by the summer. 

A pandemic does not have a timeline and many folks are extremely tired of the mandates. Some are willing to take the risk of catching the coronavirus to prove that it won't kill them.

If only Americans got vaccinated, we would have been back to normal by July. Alas, they wanna fuck around and now they're going to find out.

Of course, there's folks who are fully vaccinated but end up getting the coronavirus. As with vaccines, nothing is 100%. The vaccines are capable of preventing the coronavirus. At best, it's a 94% prevention rate which means 1 out of 500 could be infected even if they're vaccinated.

President Joe Biden had hopes that Americans would take this shit seriously. Unfortunately, Republicans so fucking eager to return to power will keep Americans fixated on the culture wars. Now vaccinations are part of this culture war.

But those fighting the culture war by not vaccinating, not wearing face mask in public, not following protocols, and deliberately ignoring federal and international rules when traveling are going to be the first casualties of the war. 

With this pandemic mostly affecting states where Republican governors are, we may have to return to wearing facial protection and cutting back services to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

We came so far only to have a bunch of selfish idiots set it back. Just because they hate President Joe Biden.

The Republicans are so devoted to destroying Biden and the country for what....to regain power.

The coronavirus doesn't care about your age, race, gender, sexuality, nationality, religion, politics, economic or social standings. It doesn't care about your business, your performances, your personal finances and travel. It doesn't care about the funerals, the birthday parties, the weddings, the vacations, the events and your graduations. It doesn't care about anything. It's a living organism that causes mild symptoms that include: fever, sore throats, chills, respiratory issues, loss of taste or smell and other unknown symptoms. If you have a weak immune system or health issues, your risk increases.

Death does happen to at least 40% of those who are affected by COVID-19. 

If you're not vaccinated, your chances of death increases to 48%.

Healthy people can die from this. Take this seriously. You only have one life!
