Ohio picks its representatives. The Democratic nominee for the 11th Congressional District and the Republican nominee for the 15th Congressional District are heading to the circus of dysfunction and chaos which we call Congress.
Rep-Elect Shontel Brown and the Rep-Elect Karen Carey are going to be U.S. Representatives from Ohio.
Carey, a Washed Up 45-backed coal lobbyist, bested a two-term Democratic state lawmaker to win an open U.S. House seat in central Ohio on Tuesday, while Brown coasted to victory in a second up-for-grabs congressional district in the Cleveland area.
The election results will leave Democrats with a 221-213 advantage over Republicans in Congress, with Brown and Carey each retaining a seat for their respective party. A third open congressional seat in Florida, where primaries were being held Tuesday, also is very likely to remain status quo and in Democratic hands.
Carey, 50, defeated Democratic state Rep. Allison Russo, a public health policy consultant, in the 15th Congressional District, after the most competitive race there in years. The previous officeholder, Republican Karen Stivers, resigned in April to become CEO of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce after a decade in Congress.
Brown, 46, a Cuyahoga County Council member who also chairs the county Democratic Party, won the Cleveland-area House seat formerly held by Marcia Fudge, who stepped down to become housing and urban development secretary in the Biden administration.
Brown defeated Republican Karen Gore, a business owner and activist, in the heavily Democratic district that stretches from Cleveland to Akron. She said she is ready to get to work.
“I am committed to going to Washington as a unifier, and will work with President Biden and Democratic leaders in Congress to lead a swift health and economic recovery from the pandemic for Ohioans,” Brown said in a statement.

Both winners will fill the remainder of their predecessors’ terms, which run until January 2023. They must face reelection again next year under a congressional map that’s being redrawn to hold onto the seat.
The good news is that Brown could be useful in doing outreach to voters. The Cuyahoga County chairwoman managed to have somewhat crossover appeal.
The bad news is that Brown and Rep. Joyce Beatty (D-OH) could be the only Democrats representing Ohio. Despite the voters approving a commission on congressional redistricting, Ohio Republicans are still trying to gerrymander districts and continue to undermine democracy.
It will prove difficult for outgoing Democrat Tim Ryan who gave up his district to run for the Senate.
On top of that, the Democrats are infighting over the loss in Virginia.
The Democrats need to fight dirty. We can't be the party of facts when we're getting crushed by lies!
The Republicans using white frustration as a key to winning. The Democrats might as well abandon the tie to Washed Up 45 strategy. They need to stop catering to white gentrification politics.
Stay focus on the issues that matter to all Americans. Don't often count Black men, white women and Hispanics as the key to victory.
In other words, listen to Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC)....Stop sloganeering!
The House Progressives, Karen Manchin, Karen Sinema and Joe Biden will doom the party going into 2022.
