The longtime Kentucky lawmaker from Louisville is retiring. The Democratic lawmaker who often appears on progressive shows like The Stephanie Miller Show, The Rachel Maddow Show and Morning Joe is looking for another way to make a living. Being in Washington, DC can be a major headache for lawmakers who want to do good for their constituents.
The Karens of the Republican conference and the House Democrats are screaming and yelling at one another. The Democrats slim majority in the House and Senate could fall back to the extremists within the Republican Party.
The BIG LIE and many of the culture wars the Republican Party is running on are working.
They want to keep the noise going because it distracts Americans from Washed Up 45, the insurrection, the pandemic and their role in possibly shutting the government down again.
Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) is taking a knee and will resign from Congress. The Kentucky Commonwealth will likely redraw his district to favor more Republicans.
He announced his retirement on Tuesday.
"The truth be told, I never expected to be in Congress this long. I always said I couldn't imagine being here longer than 10 years. After every election I was asked how long I intended to serve but I never had an answer. Today I do. This term will be my last."
He faced a challenger from the left. Kentucky state representative Attica Scott said he was planning on challenging him from the left. Now it's possible that Scott could be the first African American woman to be on the ballot, but given how dirty Republicans are, the seat could be a flip.
Yarmuth said the times were good and he vows to keep President Joe Biden's Build Back Better a success.
"While I have just become a lame duck, I intend to spend the next 15 months working hard to build on my proudest moment: the passage of the American Rescue Plan. I can still do much more for the American people. And since that progress will unfortunately not be done on a bipartisan basis, my chairmanship of the House Budget Committee puts me in a pivotal position to help build an even better future for our citizens."
Another Democrat is in the running. Morgan McGarvey, a state representative is also in the running.
Several Republicans in the House have announced retirements this term. But obviously, many of the replacements will be just as worse as the other ones.
