Hollywood mourns the lost of comedian/talk radio host Jay Thomas. He was the host of The Jay Thomas show on SiriusXM. Thomas was battling cancer.
Thomas was in Santa Barbara when his publicist Don Buchwald confirmed the news to the junk food media.
Thomas began his career as a local disc jockey before he got a break in acting. He was a major role in the second and third season of Robin Williams and Pam Dawber's comedy Mork & Mindy.
Thomas played Remo DaVinci, the co-owner of a local Boulder, Colorado deli. Between the DJ position, he took on a few roles. His breakout role was being in the 1995 movie Mr. Holland's Opus.
He also had a role on Murphy Brown and Cheers.
He played Eddie LeBec who was married to Carla Tortellli. Carla was played by Rhea Perlman.
Thomas was a main star on the show Love & War, a CBS sitcom that ran for three seasons. He also starred in the Showtime series Ray Donovan.
He also had a stint on hip-hop's Power 106 FM in Los Angeles.
He left behind his wife, Sally Michelson, her two sons and his other son, music writer J.T. Harding.
Thomas and Harding were reunited in Michigan and appeared on Dr. Phil.
Thomas gave up J.T. as a baby after he had an affair on his wife.
Before he was the host of the comedy show, he was an actor who starred in shows such as Mork & Mindy, Cheers and Murphy Brown.
Jon Thomas Terrell was born in Kermit, Texas and was a descendant of an Italian American mother and Protestant father.
