The album has a upbeat, disco, dance and R&B style.

This is her seventh album. Bey spent a little over a year to record it. She stated that she had frustrations with social injustice, the pandemic, the political climate and social media. She felt that this album is to give people a feel to "escape, travel, love and laugh again."

She titled it renaissance to give a feeling that she wants "to be a part of nurturing that escape in any way possible."

In June she started teasing a release and give the public her first single, "Break My Soul."

The album is executive produced by Beyonce, Terius Nash (The-Dream) and Tricky Stewart.

The album has production from Beyonce, The-Dream, Mike Dean, Symbolyc One, Duran, Stuart White, Honey Dijon, Luke Solomon, Chris Penny, Nova Wav, Rissi, Raphael Saadiq, Skrillex, Al Cres, Beam, Tricky Stewart, Jens Christian Isaken, No I.D.
