Norman Lear, the iconic television producer was born July 27, 1923. He is an American television writer and film producer who has developed over 100 shows. Perhaps he is best known for his iconic shows, All in the Family, Maude, Good Times and The Jeffersons.
He is also responsible for One Day at a Time, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, Sanford and Son, Archie Bunker's Place and numerous other shows.
Lear is the boss of bosses.
Lear is a supporter of progressive politics. That's why he included real issues in the way does his programs.
ABC will honor him with a star-studded special to pay homage to his works.
Airing Thursday Sept. 22, the special will feature a lineup of celebrity guests and musical performances to be announced at a later date.
Lear has stated that he has no intentions of retiring and he said he'll die writing. The celebration of his 100th birthday will likely get attention from President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and numerous others.
Lear also noted that he will revive some of the classics. He along with Brent Miller confirm that Who's the Boss? is coming back with actress/activist Alyssa Milano and veteran actor Tony Danza reprising their roles. There's a possible animated version of Good Times in the works.
"I've never chosen anything to do that I didn't wish to do. My awards and accolades mean a great deal to me, but they don't mean as much as the drive to the studio today. I still explode with joy, excitement, interest and utter delight every time."
Lear said that the best years of his life were to make people "laugh, think and understand the nature of family."
"Truth to tell, certainly I've done nothing more than father a child. Nothing more delicious than becoming a grandfather of a child. I don't know that there's anything more romantic in living than all of that."
