The fallout continues. Just weeks after he accepted the job as Jeopardy! host, Mike Richards now is fired out the cannon at Sony Pictures Television. Richards time as a executive producer and host have come to an end. He was the executive producer for Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune.
When Alex Trebek died in November 2020, the search for a replacement started. Many petitioned for Star Trek and Reading Rainbow alumni LeVar Burton to replace Trebek. That decision was turned down.
Richards who was the second host after Ken Jennings was in the running to be replacement host. But a series of disparaging remarks on an old podcast came back to haunt him. Allegations of sexism and offensive remarks about the poor were the nail in the coffin.
He made comments about Jews, women and those living in Haiti.
The news of his cannon firing came in an internal memo by Sony.
Suzanne Prete sent the message in an email.
"I'm writing to let you know that Mike will no longer be serving as EP of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! effective immediately.
Alex Trebek was an iconic game show host.
"We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulties we have all experienced these last few weeks," she added. "That clearly has not happened."
Embassy Row's Michael Davies has agreed to step in as the interim executive producer.
Prete added in the email, "I know this has been a challenging time for the entire team, and I want to thank you all for your cooperation and professionalism over these last few weeks. [I promise our duties are ongoing and we will] work together with all of you in the weeks ahead to ensure that production remains on schedule and we do not miss a beat as we head into the new season."
Actress and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik has been chosen to be the primetime Jeopardy! and fill-in host when the official host goes on vacation. Bialik has not being fired out the cannon.
Fans were not happy about the decision to appoint them. On top of that, some believe that Richards' promotion to hosting duties was considered distasteful.
Trebek is an iconic game show host. He has made an impact on American and Canadian television.
It's gong to be hard to replace a legend. It took time for people to cope over the loss. Trust me, when they saw Bob Barker retire, the fans of The Price is Right were skeptical of Drew Carey. Now Carey has hosted the program for 15 years. Trevor Noah became the new host of The Daily Show and replaced Jon Stewart after he "retired" from the hosting duties. Now Noah has became a major factor in getting young voters out to the polls.

I've said it before and I stand by what I say: "Wild animals are......well you know!"
If you want to be a thrill seeker, you might want to get life insurance.
The Americans who chose to stay when Hurricane Ida found out that the Category 4 storm now are stuck in a trap. With the electric grid collapsing in Louisiana, Mississippi and parts of Arkansas, it's going to take time for infrastructure back to operational.
Folks who stayed are subject to dangerous conditions from roofs being ripped off homes and businesses, no cell phone service, no 9-1-1 service and dangerous animals lurking in the distance. On top of that we have the coronavirus pandemic which has affected thousands of American living in the South.
A man who chose to stay became the latest victim of a chomp.
A 71-year-old Louisiana man was presumed dead after a large alligator attacked him in an area flooded by Hurricane Ida, officials say. https://t.co/0l7Sy1h6vw

A 71-year old man is missing and presumed dead after being attack by an alligator on Monday.
St. Tammany's Fire Department told the local junk food media, that a 71-year old man lost his arm in the attack and his body was swept away by the floodwaters.
The man's wife tired to pull her husband up the steps during the attack but he drifted away when she went to get medical aid.
Alligators are known to be existing in the South. Areas where they're known are North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. Some sightings are in Virginia.
Alligators are very common in Louisiana and especially in Slidell and New Orleans. Folks who live near canals and storm drains are likely to find them in the area. It's like I've said before, don't feed the wildlife. The wildlife will make your neighbor your home.
Small children, pets and older Americans are likely victims of alligator attacks.
Highway in Mississippi collapses killing two.
Avoid ponds, marshes, lakes, rivers where alligators are known to frequent. Alligators are mostly likely active at night. Do not be around alligators during mating or attending its young.
If the alligator is hissing or trying to lunge at you, back away slowly. Do not turn your back on it.
If the alligator charges at you, run in a straight line but do not turn your back on it.
If you are attacked by an alligator, you have less than five minutes to survive. First things first, don't try to wrestle your body out of an alligator. It's powerful jaws will cling and it will roll to drown you. Fight for your life if you're being attack by an alligator. Make sure you try to get into its eyes. The alligator's eyes are very sensitive to lights and debris. If you slam your fist down on the tip of the snout, it could let go of you.
If you can attack its eyes, it may let go. If you are bitten severely, you are likely to lose the body part. But if you're mildly biten, make sure you wrap the wound and try to get medical assistance.

Two people are dead and 10 injured after Highway 26 in George County washed away late Monday night following heaving rains from Hurricane Ida. Three of those hurt were injured critically, including a student at George County High.
Jerry Lee, 49 of Lucedale, has been identified by the coroner as one of the victims killed in the collapse. The second was identified as 49-year-old Kent Brown of Leakesville.
One of the people who is in critical condition is George County High senior Layla Jamison. The high school posted on its Facebook page saying she is in critical condition at USA Medical Center in Mobile.
The highway is a main thoroughfare, connecting Lucedale to Wiggins and several other cities in South Mississippi. Officials say it was raining as the vehicles drove on the highway, not knowing the danger they were driving into after the road washed out ahead of them.
Highway 26 between Highway 57 and Highway 63 will be closed until further notice.

The president speaks on the aftermath of the Afghanistan war. As expected, he will address the 13 troops killed at the Kabul airport. He will address the reasons to why he honored the pullout. He will put some of the blame on Washed Up 45 for making the decision to allow the Taliban retake Afghanistan.
He said that we've spent 20 years in Afghanistan. He will say that the United States only mission was to stop al-Qaeda from making a base in the country.
Biden will say that we had spent over $300 million a day being in Afghanistan. We have lost 2,500 lives in the 20 year war.
He will address critics on the far-right and some in the Democratic Party. He said he will not allow a forever war or forever exit in Afghanistan.
He said that if we continue to dishonored the agreement to leave Afghanistan, the Taliban start its assault on the American troops.
He said that wars were never easy. He said that the United States cannot be putting troops in every country to stop terrorism.
Most Americans are tired of the war in Afghanistan. But if you put it in the partisan lens, Republicans strongly disapprove of the withdrawal and handling. Democrats approve of the withdrawal and handling.
Independents are disapproving of the withdrawal and handling.
Biden decision to pullout will continue to be a talking point for the next three weeks.
A war that was barely covered during Washed Up 45's term is now in the spotlight now that Biden has said that time was now to close the door on a chapter that's been long. A 20 year war that had no end game.
The mission was for the United States to find those who sponsored and funded the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Biden, in defending a decision that has drawn scrutiny for its execution, said the real decision in Afghanistan was "between leaving and escalating," framing his choice to withdraw troops as the only option aside from surging more forces to the country.
"I was not going to extend this forever war, and I was not extending a forever exit," he said.
The US withdrawal was rocked by the Taliban's unexpectedly swift takeover of Afghanistan's capital. Snapshots of people trying to flee the Taliban by congregating outside the gates of Kabul's airport, along with images from inside American military planes filled with evacuees, were broadcast around the world. More than 150 Americans struggling to get to the airport were airlifted by helicopter off the roof of a nearby hotel. Thirteen US service members were killed in a terrorist attack last week outside the airport's gates and more than 170 other people died in the suicide blast. And on Sunday, American forces carried out a deadly defensive strike targeting a suspected ISIS-K suicide bomber who posed an "imminent" threat to the airport.
The President contended that the US military was prepared to deal with all those events, even though he himself has admitted that the US was caught off-guard by the quick collapse of the Afghan army.
The Taliban remains constant to trying to improve its image.
"This is the way the mission was designed. It was designed to operate under severe stress and attack, and that's what it did," Biden said.
A day after leaving Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Central Command Commander Gen. Kenneth "Frank" McKenzie to speak in the hours after the final military plane left the country, Biden addressed the American people about his decision not to extend the US military presence in Afghanistan past the end of the month. Earlier on Tuesday morning, the President first met with his national security team for a briefing on Afghanistan in the Situation Room.
Biden paid tribute to the service members who were deployed to handle the withdrawal, including the 13 who died in the terrorist strike and praised their comrades who finished the mission.
"For weeks they risked their lives to get American citizens, Afghans who helped us, citizens of our allies and partners and others on board planes and out of the country. And they did it facing the crush of enormous crowds seeking to leave the country," Biden said.
The President, who faces a political reckoning for the US' handling of the withdrawal, said in a statement Monday that "it was the unanimous recommendation of the Joint Chiefs and of all of our commanders on the ground to end our airlift mission as planned." He's also argued that he thought chaos in the country was inevitable when US troops departed.
"Their view was that ending our military mission was the best way to protect the lives of our troops, and secure the prospects of civilian departures for those who want to leave Afghanistan in the weeks and months ahead," Biden added.
He thanked the final US forces serving in the country for executing the "dangerous retrograde from Afghanistan as scheduled," with no further loss of American lives.
While the President delivered an address to announce the initiation of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan earlier this year, the Biden administration left Monday's full withdrawal announcement to McKenzie.
The CENTCOM commander on Monday acknowledged that the US military "did not get everybody out that we wanted to get out."
"But I think if we'd stayed another 10 days, we wouldn't have gotten everybody out that we wanted to get out and there still would've been people who would've been disappointed with that. It's a tough situation," he added.
As of Monday, more than 122,000 people had been airlifted from Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul since July, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby told reporters, including 5,400 Americans.
And in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning, 26 military C-17 aircraft lifted off from Kabul carrying 1,200 evacuees, according to Gen. Hank Taylor, the deputy director of the Joint Staff for Regional Operations. In total, 28 flights departed from Kabul airport in that 24-hour window, Taylor said.
A senior State Department official said the department believes there are fewer than 250 American citizens currently in Afghanistan -- and Blinken said Monday that number may be closer to 100 -- who may wish to leave, as US officials stressed a Taliban commitment to let Afghans leave the country after the US and allies left. The State Department official put the number of American citizens who have left the country through evacuation flights or other means closer to 6,000.
"We're trying to determine exactly how many. We're going through manifests and calling and texting through our lists," Blinken said in remarks at the State Department.
The State Department no longer has any diplomats in Afghanistan and has moved its diplomatic mission in the country to Doha, Qatar, Blnken said. He added that the diminished US presence in Afghanistan is not necessarily the end of US commitment there.
The top US diplomat noted that there are residents of Afghanistan who have US passports who are trying to determine if they should leave.
"Our commitment to them, and to all Americans in Afghanistan, and everywhere in the world, continues," Blinken said.
Biden has said he intends to hold the Taliban accountable to their commitment that those seeking to leave the country will be able to do so safely.
On Monday, White House officials said the President is continuing the hunt for terrorists in Afghanistan, telling his military commanders to "stop at nothing" to avenge the deaths of the 13 US service members at Kabul airport.
The US also carried out a defensive airstrike on Sunday targeting a suspected car bomb headed to the airport. The strike killed nine members of one family, including six children, according to a relative of those killed who spoke to a local journalist working with CNN.
Fox does shameless exploitation of the fallen troops killed in the line of duty.

The president says that he takes responsibility for the complete withdraw of American troops. On August 31, the American military presence ended in Afghanistan. The Taliban did not attack the United States. It was al-Qaeda and it was sponsored by Osama bin Laden, Ayman Al-Zawawi and a group of men who lived in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Lebanon.
None of them were from Afghanistan.
The war hawks over at Fox are exploiting the tragic death of 13 Americans troops. They are using the deaths of those individuals to undermine President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from Afghanistan.
Raylee McCollum and his wife lived in Wyoming. He paid the price to save lives.
The far-right often plays these stupid games. The very same folks over at Fox who tossed around the claims the election was stolen. The same folks who allowed Washed Up 45 constantly whip up Americans to attend the "Stop the Steal" rally in which it led to the insurrection. The very same network that promotes conspiracies about the current president's health. The very same network that is screaming "socialism" and "cancel culture" every fucking day. The very same network worked up over Black Lives Matter, Pepe Le Pew, Dr. Seuss, Lil Nas X's blood shoe, critical race theory and vaccines.
The very things that force Americans to commit domestic attacks on one another.
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province known as ISIS-K had launched an attack at the Kabul Hamad Karzai International Airport. A suicide bomber attack a large group of people at a gateway into the airport.
Fox is building on a phony scandal about Biden looking at his watch.
Over 600 people were injured the death count were around 200. The Pentagon released the names of the individuals who were killed.

When the news of the troops being killed reached the American junk food media, Biden knew that the war hawks and Fox would exploit their deaths. The tragic deaths of any American military official in harms way would be catnip for the junk food media.
One thing is clear: Biden never said these people were suckers for doing their civil duty to save lives.
Biden never mispronounced their names or gave them a dry speech saying "it is what it is."
Biden's Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin never said that lawmakers who criticized the mission were an empty barrel.
Some of the families chose not to meet with the president and First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden. They decided to voice their frustrations with the very same agitators who use their platforms to sow the seeds of war.
Fox decided to host the fallen solider Rylee McCollum on their show. The family claims that the compassionate Catholic who lost his son to Stage IV cancer and lost his first wife and daughter to tragic car accident is "fake." The very same president who chokes up whenever he brings up his son Beau (Joe Biden III). The very same president who knows the struggle of mental illness dealing with his son Hunter.
Rylee McCollum's family goes to Fox to push conspiracies about Biden.
To the McCollum family, it's noise.
For Fox, it's catnip. The idiots on the couch talk to the family. Rylee's father Jim refuse to meet the president. His daughter Roice went into the culture wars in describing the president.
The claim the president sounded scripted in the family's conversation. Obviously, they didn't vote for Biden in 2020.
McCollum's wife Jiennah went to meet the president but Roice claimed that the president show "total disregard to the loss of the loss of our Marine -- our brother, son, husband and father." She added, "He cannot possibly understand. My dad and I didn't want to speak to him. You cannot kneel on our flag and pretend to care about our troops. You can't fuck up as bad as he did and say you're sorry. This did not need to happen, and every life is on his hands. The thousands of Afghans who will suffer and be tortured is a direct result of his incompetence."
Okay, this woman has the right to mourn. But her comments are stupid as fuck.
First things first, the U.S. government overthrew the Taliban. We tried to build a nation on the backs of our American troops. The former president negotiated with the Taliban to stop them from attacking our troops. Washed Up 45 was hoping to have Americans out by May 1. Biden honored the commitment.
The Islamic State carried out the attack. The U.S. intelligence agencies said that an attack was imminent.
The iconic image of Biden praying after hearing the news of the troops deaths is exploited by the far-right as weakness.
The troops knew what they're were getting into to. The Americans who refused to listen to the State Department warnings back in April 2021 fucked themselves. The government can only do so much.
The troops had to pat down people. Unfortunately, the person who blew his (or herself) up was brainwashed by the very same crap being pushed on social media. The same bullshit that led thousands of Americans to the U.S. Capitol.
This woman forgot that we have domestic terrorism in our own backyard. We have unarmed Americans being shot by police. Gun violence is a bigger threat than the Taliban. The fight was always against al-Qaeda, not the Taliban.
Some Republicans would feel welcomed over in Afghanistan. The Taliban does have conservative views and they have phobias against women's rights, gay rights, free press and show a strong love for their country. They hate politicians and believe the world's out the get them. Fox should be happy that the Taliban is in charge. They can use them as an role model to what they've trying to impose on everyone else.
Roice is a far-right agitator. She's spilling bullshit she been watching on Fox or off the internet.
She doesn't seem to care about military officials dying in our own backyard due to suicide, mental illness and lack of affordable health care.
Fox is the very same place where they were calling for more troops to be aiding in the evacuations of Americans and Afghans who wanted to leave the country. Biden heard and gave the resources.
Shame these folks don't blame the Islamic State for their loved one's death. They always want to blame the president and other entities for a lone wolf attack.
Again, no one want to hear the news of a loved one being killed by the state or by a foreign operative.
But this is the price of war. War doesn't not have heroes or villains. It only ends with serious injuries, serious mental illness and lots of dead bodies.

Americans spent years to capture one of these guys.
The United States has formally ended the longest war. But the war at home continues. The far-right and the bad faith actors on the left as well as war hawks on CNN, MSNBC, Fox and other entities are calling this withdrawal a "defeat."
The War on Terror was launched in December 2001 when the Afghanistan government led by the Taliban rejected the request to turn over Osama bin Laden, one of the key planners of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
The Republican president George W. Bush failed to read his briefing and it led to the deadly terrorist attack on New York City, Washington, DC and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The junk food media gave Bush praise for telling the world that "we're going to respond" to the attack.
Bush who was not popular saw his popularity rise eight months after September 11th. With the water carrying Fox leading the news cycle with bias coverage of the Republican president, questioning the war in Afghanistan meant you either were for the troops or for the enemy.
The U.S. military overthrew the Taliban government. They established a western-back democracy that collapse the moment the U.S. abandoned its three bases.
Barack Obama, then Democratic president ordered the hit on Osama bin Laden. The al-Qaeda spokesman and chief operator was found in Abbottabad, Pakistan in a middle class neighborhood.
He was killed by the U.S. Navy Seals in May 2011. His body was captured and dumped in the sea.
Since the death of Osama bin Laden, the U.S. continued to be in Afghanistan taking on Taliban fighters.
The Taliban fighters were well prepared for any type of military assault. They managed to kill more American troops through proxy attacks like car and suicide bombings. The Taliban was also doing a media campaign to turn opinions against the U.S. and western back governments.
Washed Up 45 laid the groundwork for an immediate pullout. President Joe Biden followed through and ended the war in Afghanistan.
The United States has withdrawn the last of its military out of Kabul, officially ending a 20-year war in Afghanistan that has become known for its massive failures and lies that cost trillions of dollars and the lives of Americans and Afghans alike.
Afghanistan will run its own path.
The last C-17 plane departed from Afghanistan at 3:29 p.m. EDT Monday (11:59 p.m. Kabul time), putting an end to the country’s withdrawal, which was rushed by the Taliban’s quick takeover and threatened by a deadly suicide attack that the Islamic State’s affiliate in Afghanistan claimed responsibility for.
“Tonight’s withdrawal signifies both the end of the military component of the evacuation but also the end of the nearly 20-year mission that began in Afghanistan shortly after Sept. 11, 2001,” said Marine Corps Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, who leads U.S. Central Command.
McKenzie added that he can say with 100% certainty that every single U.S. service member is now out of Afghanistan and that there were no evacuees left at the airport when the last U.S. flight left Kabul.
About 123,000 people have been evacuated since Aug. 14 in one of the largest airlifts in history, though the increasing danger to Kabul’s airport resulted in some Americans and thousands of Afghan allies left behind. The White House said Monday that about 6,000 Americans have been evacuated or otherwise have left Afghanistan in that same time.
The Pentagon said there were no non-military Americans on the last military flights, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that there are “likely closer to 100” Americans left in Afghanistan who want to leave. McKenzie also stressed that some Americans expressed they wanted to stay Afghanistan.
“I believe our Department of State is going to work very hard to allow any American citizens that are left” in Afghanistan to be able to leave, he said. “I believe that we’re going to be able to get those people out. I think we’re also going to negotiate very hard, very aggressively to get our other Afghan partners out. The military phase is over, but our desire to bring these people out remains as intense as it was before.”
Earlier Monday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said the Taliban has publicly stated it will allow people to travel outside of Afghanistan after Aug. 31.
“That does not mean we trust what they say, but there is an enormous amount of international leverage,” Psaki said. “There is a discussion about what our diplomatic presence may look like moving forward. Our current plan is to not have an ongoing diplomatic presence in Afghanistan” for now, but the U.S. would like to find ways to work with Afghans.
U.S. officials told The Wall Street Journal that a small handful of remaining U.S. diplomats also left on Monday and are safe in Kuwait. This means there are currently no U.S. diplomats left in Afghanistan.
Biden tearfully mourns the deaths of 13 troops killed last Tuesday in Kabul.
The U.S. deadline to fully withdraw its military from Afghanistan came on the heels of a suicide bomb that killed 13 U.S. service members and about 180 Afghans near Kabul’s international airport. President Joe Biden vowed at the time to retaliate against those responsible for the attack, but said the U.S. would continue its evacuation operation.
Since then, the U.S. carried out a drone strike it said hit a suicide bomber on the way to the airport, though the attack also killed 10 Afghan civilians that included small children. Early Monday, ISIS-K fired a wave of rockets at the emptying airport, one of which the Pentagon said was intercepted by its missile defense system.
The War in Afghanistan led to nearly 259,000 people killed. Of those people killed, 2,420 American troops killed.

The remnants of Hurricane Ida has complicated things. The southern states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama and Florida are in the path of the storm. The state of Louisiana has 70% of power loss. The state of Mississippi has 65% of power loss. These two states also have some of the worse cases of COVID-19.
Arkansas, Missouri and Florida are leading in the most cases of infections.
As we are approaching 675,000 dead from the coronavirus, we keep hearing more and more Americans still refusing to get vaccinated. The coronavirus has mutated into strains that could infect vaccinated Americans. It has become apparent that an unvaccinated person could launch a deadly pandemic within approximately 10 days.
The White House had to reimpose the mask mandate for its staff and journalists. The House of Representatives and the Senate are imposing the mask mandate after numerous lawmakers tested positive for the coronavirus despite being vaccinated.
We are hearing about Americans regretting their decision not to get vaccinated.
Caleb Wallace, the 30-year-old founder of a group called the San Angelo Freedom Defenders who protested against masks and business closures in Texas, died on Saturday of COVID-19.
His wife, Jessica Wallace, who is pregnant with their fourth child, announced his death on a GoFundMe page. Wallace lived in San Angelo, Texas, and in July 2020 organized an event called the Freedom Rally, where participants demonstrated against lockdowns, the media, and the science behind COVID-19, The Associated Press reports. In April, Wallace demanded San Angelo's school district get rid of all of its COVID-19 safety protocols.
Jessica Wallace told the San Angelo Standard-Times that on July 26, her husband began experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and instead of going to the hospital to get tested, he started taking high doses of Vitamin C, zinc, and the anti-parasitic medicine ivermectin, which is used for livestock. Health officials have urged people to stop taking this medication for the coronavirus.
On July 30, Wallace was admitted to the emergency room, and eight days later was put on a ventilator. Jessica Wallace wrote on the GoFundMe page that her husband was "an imperfect man but he loved his family and his little girls more than anything." She said to those who "wished him death," she is "sorry his views and opinions hurt you. I prayed he'd come out of this with a new perspective and more appreciation for life. I can't say much more than that because I can't speak for him."
An Alabama woman regrets telling her son to avoid getting vaccinated. He died and her family is in the path of that hurricane. The woman shares her story and urges Americans to get vaccinated.
These days, Christy Carpenter finds strength in her family and faith. But on some days, one question keeps ringing in her head: "Why?"
After weeks of battling through oxygen treatments, her 28-year-old son died in the hospital two months after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
Now in Carpenter's Alabama home, the room belonging to Curt, her "beautiful baby boy" and firstborn, remains empty - a painful reminder of a life that could have been saved if the family had decided to get vaccinated, she said.
"It took watching my son die and me suffering the effects of covid for us to realize we need the vaccine," the mother said. "We did not get vaccinated when we had the opportunity and regret that so much now."
Although for her it will always be impossible to understand the reason for Curt's passing, Carpenter said she is determined to not let her son's death be futile.
"If Curt were here today, he would make it his mission to encourage everyone to get vaccinated," Carpenter said. "Cayla, his sister, and I are carrying out that mission in his memory."
Curt Carpenter was a young and otherwise healthy man. While at home, his mother said, he would spoil her with the "best hugs" and a daily dosage of kindness. Curt was autistic, but Christy Carpenter said he "lived life to the fullest" and had a passion for all things Pokémon, trains, video games and frogs.
The pandemic dealt a big blow to the tightknit Carpenter family on March 5, when Curt, his younger sister and his mother were diagnosed with the virus, which has claimed about 610,000 lives across the nation.
At first, the three experienced mild symptoms that slowly began to alleviate. Then, a week later, everything took a turn for the worse.
When their oxygen saturation levels dropped dangerously, the mother and son were rushed to Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham. A day later, they both developed pneumonia, and Curt Carpenter was put on a ventilator.
The constantly changing oxygen levels paired with a pneumothorax - a collapsed lung - were too much for Curt Carpenter's body. His organs began shutting down. He was declared dead May 2.
His last uttered phrase is still etched in Christy Carpenter's mind: "This is not a hoax, this is real," Curt said, according to his mother.
Alabama woman shares her son's death to COVID.
His mother said Curt Carpenter at first believed that the coronavirus was a hoax. The whole family was hesitant to get vaccinated when the shots became available.
"It took years to create other vaccines, and the coronavirus vaccine was created very quickly," Christy Carpenter said. "That made us very nervous."
The Carpenters' reluctance is not unique in a state with the lowest vaccination rates in the country. According to data from the Alabama Department of Public Health, only 33.9 percent of the state's eligible population has been fully vaccinated, and 41.6 percent has received at least one dose.
With cases beginning to climb in the state, health officials are attempting to boost confidence in the vaccine - but difficulties in rollout paired with distrust have become major hurdles.
"We find that there's a lot of mistrust with messages that come from state government, from public health, in particular, from the media," said Scott Harris, chief executive of the Alabama Department of Public Health. "It's just a multilayered problem. There's just a lot of different people who have a lot of different reasons for not getting the vaccine. And it's just hard to address them in a big way."
Much like the Carpenters, unvaccinated people are often the ones to endure the most severe effects of the virus. In Alabama, they account for more than 95 percent of the current COVID-related hospitalizations, Harris said.
Yet, for some, the disease does not end with a negative coronavirus test. Its aftermath can be just as harrowing.
Even after being discharged from the hospital, Christy Carpenter said, she could not drive or work until late May. She said she has been on pulmonary therapy ever since and still struggles with fatigue, hair loss and "covid brain."
"I lose my train of thought easily, can't remember parts of conversations, can't remember people's names that I have known for years," she said. "I sometimes think I'm going crazy, but I know I'm not."
Even worse, she deals with the backwash of memories of her son - a "social butterfly who knew no strangers" and whose time was cut short. Yet his death has inspired a renewed appreciation for life and a mission to protect it.
"If we can help keep people healthier and possibly save lives by encouraging others to take the vaccine, then Curt's death was not in vain," Christy said. "Life is a precious gift from God."
So much for that "freedom."
Grow the fuck up!
Stop pandering bullshit.
These folks are going to fucking around and then find out.
Although the coronavirus vaccines can prevent transmission and hospitalization, the virulent Delta variant has been the source of a small proportion of "breakthrough" cases that can affect older and immunocompromised people.
Of course, there's folks who are fully vaccinated but end up getting the coronavirus. As with vaccines, nothing is 100%. The vaccines are capable of preventing the coronavirus. At best, it's a 94% prevention rate which means 1 out of 500 could be infected even if they're vaccinated.
President Joe Biden had hopes that Americans would take this shit seriously. Unfortunately, Republicans so fucking eager to return to power will keep Americans fixated on the culture wars. Now vaccinations are part of this culture war.
But those fighting the culture war by not vaccinating, not wearing face mask in public, not following protocols, and deliberately ignoring federal and international rules when traveling are going to be the first casualties of the war.
With this pandemic mostly affecting states where Republican governors are, we may have to return to wearing facial protection and cutting back services to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
Do you have sympathy for those unvaccinated Americans who caught the coronavirus?
We came so far only to have a bunch of selfish idiots set it back. Just because they hate President Joe Biden.
The Republicans are so devoted to destroying Biden and the country for what....to regain power.
Pathetic.
According to the CDC, there is still not enough information on antibodies for COVID-19 and whether they can prevent someone from getting reinfected. It still recommends that people with a positive antibody test follow recommendations for protecting themselves and others.
The coronavirus doesn't care about your age, race, gender, sexuality, nationality, religion, politics, economic or social standings. It doesn't care about anything. It's a living organism that causes mild symptoms that include: fever, sore throats, chills, respiratory issues, loss of taste or smell and other unknown symptoms. If you have a weak immune system or health issues, your risk increases.
Death does happen to at least 40% of those who are affected by COVID-19.
If you're not vaccinated, your chances of death increases to 62%.
Healthy people can die from this. Take this seriously. You only have one life!
