Rep. Tom Garrett (R-VA) resigns amid a scandal.

On this memorial day, a lawmaker announces he will no longer seek reelection. Republican lawmaker Tom Garrett of Virginia will be the 44th member of the House of Representatives either resigning or retiring.

He represented the 5th Congressional district of Virginia.

The hopes of the Democrats retaking the House and Senate are still up in the air. But this announcement does give the party hope.

Garrett claims that his personal issues with the booze has burdened his family.

His staff claimed he treated them like shit. He would order them to pick up groceries, walk his dogs and even picking up the poop.

Garrett would punish his staff with threats.

Some believe he was having an affair on his wife.

Garrett is a member of the do nothing House Freedom Caucus. He represented the areas around Charlottesville. Last year the city made history. It became one of the largest rallies for a bunch of white extremists.

Donald J. Trump said they were "very fine people" and the violence was done by both sides. Heather Heyer was killed when a white extremist used his vehicle as a weapon to attack counter protesters.
