Independence Day!

The third most active holiday in the year. Independence Day. We celebrate 237 years since the United States of America was formed.

The day we celebrate America's "freedom".

It's not a real great day for those who fought for Civil Rights in the South.

The Supreme Court revoked the portion of the Voting Rights Act in which would have the government watch localities that try to play shenanigans at the ballot box.

The junk food media's conservative agitators are hoping that idiot gets off with an acquittal of the murder of Trayvon Martin. They want to see Black America riot in the street so they can blame President Barack Obama for the decision. That idiot thought it was "god's plan" to kill an unarmed teenager. Yeah, those in the media want to wrap the case up with that idiot walking out in a hoodie.

We lost 19 of our brave firefighters in Prescott, Arizona. There was a severe wildfire in the desert and this "hot shot" team were caught off guard by a shifting wind and overwhelmingly hot temperatures. We here at Journal de la Reyna send our condolences to those lost in this senseless tragedy.

The LGBT community can now have benefits as a married couple. In 14 states will allow gay marriage and the possibility of legal challenges will continue in states that don't accept it. Since the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and the California Proposition 8, many same sex couples are celebrating and are rushing to the alter. The decision tosses it back to the lower courts.

Our men and women serving overseas in Afghanistan and military bases abroad are not here celebrating. We once again thank them for their service and wish them safe. The military have expanded its resources across the world and many Americans are cautious about intervention in Egypt and Syria.

The United States Congress are once again on a vacation. The members of Congress job approval is at 13%  right  now. With the conservative members of both the Republican and Democratic Party stalling progress, we the American people suffer. The student loans rate will go up now that the Stafford Loan expired.

Just like with the E85 and green energy credits expiring, now another benefit to helping is being scrapped.

You see that our Congress inactiveness has hurt the president's job approval as well.

We're in a sequester. A forced mandate in which it advocates painful cuts to the government and it's impact is being felt in the local communities. The air shows allow U.S. Air Force planes to perform at the shows. In my community, their annual air show ended with a tragedy. A woman who is a professional plane walker died along with her pilot in a crash. Jane Wicker and her pilot Charlie Schwenker died at the Vectren Dayton Air Show in June. Air shows have seen cutbacks with attendance with the lost of Air Force planes.

Look there are plenty of things to be thankful for this holiday weekend. I am proud to be an American.

But there are some things that makes me shake my head in disgust. Our freedom of speech has gotten even more nastier. I am more nastier in how I address the public nowadays. I keep a small circle and it's really getting smaller.

I am not perfect and I don't want to call myself anything less.

But nowadays, if we could allow our freedom of speech create hateful websites, countless gun crimes, legal limbo from the court and the lawmakers, and the despair of hundreds if not millions of those in need:

What is there to celebrate freedom for?

We can barbecue and have fireworks, but we don't have the decency to say thanks to a soldier or help a person in need because we're feed bias by the junk food media, yeah what's is there to celebrate freedom for?

HIV Testing Day!

Yeah, I know it's hard for you, me and millions of others. But if you don't get a check, you may never know and it's could result in a deadly fate.

Today is National HIV Testing Day.

I hate tests! But this test here ensures that I live a healthy life!

"KNOW YOUR SCORE!"

I want my woman to know I keep myself healthy! And passing this test ensures that I have her feeling safe when we share our love!

Millions of Americans are living with HIV. Some may not even know they have the virus that may cause AIDS.

HIV/AIDS is a epidemic disease. It affects any age, race, gender, sexuality, nationality and it's transmitted from unprotected sex. It's transferred from sharing dirty needles. It's transferred through blood transfusions.

It can be spread from mother to child.

Besides cancer, HIV is one the top five health dangers in the world.

I share some of my experiences at the health clinic.

Get a HIV Test! It's the most important test of your life!

Sebastian de la Cruz Is A Real American!

Defying the odds, a 10-year old boy tells the world that the show will go on!

Bravo, little soldier.

The 10-year old boy who sung the national anthem at the NBA Finals was the subject of harsh criticism and downright racist remarks from the conservative/white supremacist bubble.

Hey, didn't these guys get the memo about 2043?

If that's not the case, they'll have less than 30 years to figure out why it's happening faster than they've expected.

Sebastian de la Cruz wowed the crowd with his rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. But he also wowed the Twitter-verse with praise and downright evil comments from a bunch of jackasses.

It would be so nice if these assholes said this to the face of this little boy. But unfortunately, here in the United States, we're still in the mindset that our country is "the land of the free".

Only free for "real Americans" and not those evil "MEXICANS" or "ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS".

They didn't happen to notice the boy is an American child.

Okay, this is ridiculous but that's how these people act.

Seeing the outpouring of ignorance online, Julian Castro and the San Antonio Spurs gave Sabastion another opportunity to sing for the fans.

He is the young mariachi singer who went on NBC's America's Got Talent.

The coaches of the NBA Finals series between the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat came out and gave him congratulations and praise for standing in the face of opposition.

Browner!

White Extremists will not be pleased about the U.S. birth rate. For the first time, over half of the nation's minority population outnumbers Whites. It began at the peak of 5 years old.

It's official, the interracial birth rate has surpassed the White birth rate.

The conservative/white supremacist bubble will not be happy about this bit of news.

Earlier this month, the noise made about Cheerios having an adorable commercial about a little girl being a interested in the cereal's benefits to her dad's health. She ends up pouring them on her dad's chest.

The noise was made over the family being interracial. So many racist comments came down the pipeline, the people over at YouTube had to shut down the comments section.

Sure enough, me and S. Baldwin were shocked about the impact that one little commercial caused.

Now the Associated Press reports that for the first time, America's racial and ethnic minorities make up about half of the under-5 age group, the US government said on Thursday. It's a historic shift that shows how young people are at the forefront of sweeping changes by race and class.
Pick your flavor of Cheerios.
The new census estimates, a snapshot of the US population as of July 2012, come a year after the Census Bureau reported that whites had fallen to a minority among babies. Fueled by immigration and high rates of birth, particularly among Hispanics, racial and ethnic minorities are now growing more rapidly in numbers than whites.

Based on current rates of growth, whites in the under-5 group are expected to tip to a minority this year or next, said Thomas Mesenbourg, the Census Bureau's acting director.

The government also projects that in five years, minorities will make up more than half of children under 18. Not long after that, the total US white population will begin a decline in absolute numbers, due to aging baby boomers.

The nation's demographic changes are already stirring discussion as to whether some civil rights-era programs, such as affirmative action in college admissions, should be retooled to focus more on income rather than race and ethnicity. The Supreme Court will rule on the issue this month.

The gap between rich and poor in the US has now stretched to its widest since 1970, making opportunities to reach the middle class increasingly difficult.

Longer-term changes in family structure, such as a decline in marriage, have led to a rise in single-mother households across all racial groups, with the fastest growth now occurring among whites. More than 40 percent of newborns are now born out of wedlock, in families more likely to be low income.

The latest census numbers show:

* The population younger than 5 stood at 49.9 percent minority in 2012.
The Cheerios commercial that caused controversy. It had an interracial family and White extremists attacked it.
* For the first time in more than a century, the number of deaths now exceeds births among white Americans. This "natural decrease'' occurred several years before the government's original projection. For now, the white population is still increasing slightly, due to immigration from Europe.

* As a whole, the nonwhite population increased by 1.9 percent to 116 million, or 37 percent of the US The fastest percentage growth is among multiracial Americans, followed by Asians and Hispanics. Non-Hispanic whites make up 63 percent of the US; Hispanics, 17 percent; blacks, 12.3 percent; Asians, 5 percent; and multiracial Americans, 2.4 percent.

* Among the under-5 age group, 22 percent live in poverty. Black toddlers were most likely to be poor, at 41 percent, followed by Hispanics at 32 percent and whites at 13 percent. Asian toddlers had a poverty rate of 11 percent.

"More so than ever, we need to recognize the importance of young minorities for the growth and vitality of our labor force and economy," said William H Frey, a demographer at the Brookings Institution who analyzed the census data.

The gaps in achievement tend to emerge early in childhood, and disparities are especially evident in SAT admission scores. College Board data show that average scores spread as wide as 130-140 points in each of the reading, math and writing sections for a student with family income of less than $20,000, compared with a student with family income exceeding $200,000.

About 40 percent of whites age 25-29 graduate from college, compared with 15 percent for Latinos and 23 percent for blacks.

Conservatives: [Republicans] Drop The Kumbaya Act!

File:Phyllis-schlafly-2007-03 cc.jpg
The crazy old lady warns Republicans to drop the act of trying to win Blacks and Hispanics.

You could be a member of the Republican Party if your only goal in life is to keep Blacks and Hispanics away from the polls. You would throw your crap on the wall claiming that Blacks support President Barack Obama because of race, and the Hispanics are illegal immigrants. You concluded that Blacks and Hispanics want to make babies so they could get "gubmint" entitlements.

In other words, Republicans and their conservative allies believe that the White race is declining because of these "parasites" taking out of the taxpayer's pockets and that Nigger Obama is allowing this.

The Republicans don't want Black and Hispanic women to have abortions.

The Republicans don't want Black and Hispanic families to get food stamps and welfare.

The Republicans don't like it that Blacks and Hispanics vote on race. Yet, perennial loser Mitt Romney had a strong turnout of White voters.

The Republicans want to pass legislation that require voters to have a state issued identification to prevent voter fraud in a minority precinct.

The Republicans don't want Blacks, Hispanics, and Muslims to own firearms. Some Republicans believe that violence in America is caused by the entertainment industry (i.e. rap music, video games and movies).

Republicans want to attack President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Attorney General Eric Holder, and UN Secretary Susan Rice. They attack the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by claiming that he supported the policies of the modern day Republican Party.

The Republicans advocate racism through their associates. These individuals King Hippo, Crazy JonesThat Guy Who Helped Obama Win, The Guy Who Throws Shit On The Wall, The Palin Da Ass, The Turd Flipper, Bill-O, and Chalk E Becker are part the junk food media. These paid agitators openly advocate violence and hatred of the Black and Hispanic communities.

Our friends over at Addicting Info found a nice little article about that crazy old lady who founded the Eagle Forum. She issued a warning to Republicans. The crazy old lady wants Republicans to drop any attempts to pass immigration reform.

Her words: The Hispanics who come in like this are going to vote Democrat. There isn't the slightest bit of evidence that they are going to vote Republican. The people the Republicans should reach out to are the white votes — the white voters who didn't vote in the last election. There are millions of them. I think when you have an establishment-run nomination system, they give us a series of losers, which they've given us with Dole, McCain, and Romney and they give us people who don’t connect with the grassroots.

So if you're looking at this comment, you notice that the crazy old lady is blaming the three former Republican nominees for being too easy on winning the rainbow instead of the White vote.

If she really want to have a honest discussion to why these three candidates lost.

Richard Nixon was the Vice President. He lost the U.S. Presidential Election the first time. He went on to win the presidency in two election victories. He ended up resigning at the peak of a scandal.

George H.W. Bush lost to Ronald Reagan in the Republican nomination. He would later become the Vice President of the United States. Bush would later lose to Bill Clinton.

Perennial loser Bob Dole lost as a vice presidential candidate. He lost to George H.W. Bush in the Republican nomination. Dole would eventually lose to incumbent president Bill Clinton.

Perennial loser John McCain lost the Republican nomination to George W. Bush. He lost to Barack Obama in a landslide election.

Perennial loser Mitt Romney lost to John McCain in the Republican nomination. He lost to incumbent president Barack Obama.

So in other words, this crazy old lady wants to ignore the fastest minority group in the nation. Forget Hispanics, Republicans only need white voters.

This is your Republican Party people. This stuff is why they're losing the elections. It's fossils like this crazy old woman who keep the Republican Party the condescending, the sexist, the homphobic, the Islamophobic, the racist, and down right stupid people most American liberals paint them out to be.

Cleveland Kidnapper Was A "Monster", Says Family!

Amanda Berry and her daughter fought back captor. The junk food media will now focus on how the Cleveland Police failed Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight.

Bad publicity and the outcomes of being in a minority-majority city.

The city where Black and law enforcement are like distant cousins. Long distance cousins to say at least.

Cleveland, population 394,000 makes it the second largest city in the state of Ohio. The city seen a major decline in population due to economic turmoils such as manufacturing drying up and racial tensions driving the White people from the city. Cleveland minority population for Black and Hispanic citizens would be about 80%.

With Blacks The Cleveland Police are facing a public backlash because of reports of neighbors ignoring their concerns.
(L-R) Ariel Castro, Onil Castro and Pedro J. Castro
Ariel Castro with brothers Onil and Pedro were arrested by Cleveland Police. Based on information Ariel Castro not his brothers may face federal charges if the FBI finds more evidence of sex slavery.
The Cleveland Police are under investigation for the shooting of unarmed individuals. The man (was a john) and the woman (was a prostitute) and they've apparently crashed into a cruiser and the police fired upon them.

Anthony Sowell, known as the Cleveland Strangler was killing prostitutes and runaways. He buried their bodies in his home. It took over a decade to discover the dead bodies being buried in the basement of his home. I once thought that one of the women freed this week was one of the victims of Sowell.

Ariel Castro the man held in custody in the kidnapping of Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight.

According to Cleveland Police, the man had restrained the women with chains and rope. The women were abused and knocked up continuously by the individuals. The women had miscarriages. The only woman with a child is Amanda Berry and she was pregnant by Ariel Castro.

Yesterday, the junk food media awaited the arrival of Gina DeJesus, Amanda Berry and her daughter.

The media covered it just like they've covered the Boston Marathon bombings and Sandy Hook tragedy: Wrong and just plain reckless.

For one thing, they're trying to say they had opportunities to escape the home. It's funny some would say that! If you're not in that person's shoes, you wouldn't know how to escape a captor!

Today, Castro was giving a bail hearing. For each woman and the child, it's a $2 million bond. With an $8 million dollar bond, the worst isn't over for the suspect. The county prosecutor is even going as far to seek the death penalty in this case.

Castro with his love for music and seemingly friendly personality, Ariel Castro was a familiar presence in his heavily Latino neighborhood on Cleveland’s west side. The Washington Post reports that the former school bus driver lived a decent life in the neighborhood. He was the "nice guy" according to neighbors. The family said he was a "monster" and a "recluse".
Ariel Castro's Facebook page tells a disturbing picture into the seemingly "nice" guy who was a bit odd.
Castro, 52, drove a school bus, attended neighborhood barbecues, played bass in a number of local bands and was known for the musical equipment that filled his living room, especially his beloved bass guitars.

Yet there were hints of another side to Castro, who was charged with kidnapping and rape on Wednesday in the abductions of three young women who were held captive for the past decade. The house that seemed so open to some fellow musicians was closed to other people, with locks on the basement, attic and garage.

Records show that Castro was accused of beating his former wife so badly it triggered a blood clot in her brain and that he was fired from his job in November after a series of disciplinary incidents.

The seeming contradictions have left neighbors and family members shocked and perplexed at what could have gone wrong for a family that seemed so woven into the tightly knit community around it, a family that had close ties to relatives of at least one of the victims.

“I am very surprised. I never thought Ariel would do something like this. Never,” said Noemi Castro, Ariel Castro’s half sister in an interview with The Washington Post.

Castro was charged with four counts of kidnapping, which included all three captives and the daughter born to one of them while she was detained, and three counts of rape against the three women.

Castro’s brothers — Pedro Castro, 54, and Onil Castro, 50 — were also arrested and still in custody Wednesday, but police said they would face no immediate charges. Police said they had found no evidence the two brothers were connected to the crimes.

Ariel Castro, of Puerto Rican heritage, lived in and owned the ramshackle house on Seymour Avenue where the three women — Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight — were rescued Monday night, along with Berry’s 6-year-old daughter.
Horrible experience for three women. Took over 10 years to find Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight. Suspect Ariel Castro fathered a baby with Berry.
Pedro and Onil Castro lived together a few blocks away. Little information was available about them Wednesday. Media reports said they did not have jobs and never married.

Also mysterious was the web of ties among the Castro brothers, especially Ariel Castro and the family of DeJesus, who disappeared at age 14 while walking home from school on April 2, 2004.

Roberto Diaz, a neighbor, said in a interview with The Post that Ariel Castro participated in at least one of the annual neighborhood marches to draw attention to all three missing girls. Khalid Samad, a friend of the DeJesus family, said Ariel Castro knew DeJesus’s father and helped search for her after she disappeared, the Associated Press reported. He also performed music at a fundraiser in her honor, Samad said.
The women were held in a "house of horrors" according to the law enforcement officials.
DeJesus’s best friend before she disappeared, Arlene Castro, is the daughter of Ariel Castro. Arlene Castro was with DeJesus moments before she disappeared; Arlene Castro appeared on TV’s “America’s Most Wanted” in 2005 to draw attention to the case.

In her interview with The Washington Post, Noemi Castro said that although she was not close to Ariel Castro, she had been told by other family members about “weird” signs in his life. “He didn’t let anybody in the house,” she said. “There were locks on everything. That’s a red flag.”

Ariel Castro has been accused of violence against women, according to court records. The records show he was charged in 1993 with domestic violence against his wife, Grimilda Figueroa, but a grand jury declined to indict him. The case was dropped.

In August 2005, according to records in Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court, he was ordered to stay away from Figueroa and their children after he was accused of beating her so severely that he broke her nose twice, broke her ribs, dislocated both shoulders and caused a blood clot in her brain.

The petition for a protective order says he threatened to kill Figueroa and their daughters on multiple occasions. The order was rescinded three months after it was granted, for reasons that are unclear, at a hearing not attended by Figueroa’s attorney. Figueroa died last year.

Ariel Castro’s daughter Emily has also run into trouble with the law. She was sentenced in 2008 to 25 years in prison for trying to kill her 11-month-old daughter by slashing the girl’s throat four times, court records show. Emily Castro also cut her wrists with the same knife she used on her daughter, records show.

In an appeal, filed shortly after her conviction, Castro’s attorney said his client was not competent to stand trial because she has “mental health issues, including manic depression.”

Ariel Castro also ran into problems at work. Although school records show he received mostly “excellent” marks in his performance evaluations as a bus driver for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, they also show that he was fired in November after being disciplined for the fourth time in nine years. Incidents included leaving a child alone on a bus in 2004 while he went to a Wendy’s restaurant for lunch.

A Cleveland police report quoted the girl as saying that when Castro arrived at the Wendy’s, he told her, “Lay down, b----,” and left her alone. After he returned, he “drove around a while” before he returned her to her home care provider.

The fourth time Castro was disciplined, records show, was over a Sept. 20, 2012, incident in which he left his unlocked bus in front of a school for several hours.

“I left my bus parked in front of the school and walked home two blocks away,’” he wrote in the file. “I felt tired [that] day. Scranton is my school so I didn’t think anything wrong with parking there. I do appologize.”

Local musicians said Ariel Castro could be guarded about his home, wary of letting people into his world. But Tito DeJesus, a local piano player, was one of the few who stepped inside the house on Seymour Avenue.

It was a few years back, and DeJesus was dropping off tools and appliances that Castro had bought from him. “He was kind of like a hoarder,” DeJesus recalled. The living room was filled with musical equipment, he said. A lamp served as an end table. Castro’s bass guitars were on stands around the room.

The two played together in several bands, and Castro was forever gushing about some new piece of musical gear he had acquired. “He liked to show off his stuff,” DeJesus said.
Shame!
And he liked to show off his playing, too. DeJesus said Castro’s style was a good match for his own. “He’s one of the top [Latin] bass players in Cleveland,” he said.

There was something else DeJesus noticed. “He never had a woman,” he said.

Edwin Nunez, a salsa band leader who performed with Castro, said Castro tended not to hang out with other musicians after gigs. “He was very private about his life,’’ Nunez said.

Roig-Franzia reported from Cleveland. Debbi Wilgoren and Alice Crites contributed to this report.

Drudge Misleads Headline About Income Inequality!

I for one am getting tired of The Guy Who Throws Shit On The Wall and his conservative agitating.

He's entitled to attract his rabid base of WHITE EXTREMISTS and misinformed readers with his website.

Most of the Republican Party takes marching orders from him, the folks over at Loserville, King Hippo, Chalk E Becker, and now Crazy Jones. It's no secret that a handful of Republican politicos are drafting legislation based off these highly paid luntics of the junk food media.

While they're screaming that the media is in the tank for President Barack Obama, their gullible audience continues to shell out dollars for books, events, and products endorsements.

To put this in simple words: We'll scream so much and yes, we've gotten very wealthy by doing it!

In the link, the New York Times tells a tale of income inequality between two common groups Republicans rather see in the iron college instead of the voting booths.

The median income for Blacks and Hispanics have taken a nosedive for over 50 years. Further than we thought though. In the age of Barack Obama, many Republicans and their conservative/White supremacists allies believe the minorities are "brainwashed" into supporting the president because he's a "brotha".

The New York Times cited a study from the Urban Institute saying that White families make an average of $2 for every Blacks and Hispanics that makes $1. This situation has been around for 30 years.

Newsflash, Ronald Reagan was the president back then.

The title is misleading for one thing. It's not true.

One thing about the U.S. Congress these days, they're not popular. Right now, the Kardashians are slightly more likable than members of Congress.

Since the background check vote failed, members of the U.S. Senate who voted against it have taken nosedive in popularity. Republicans and Democrats who voted against gun control really are paying a price.

This inequality gap that stiffed Black and Hispanic families continue to reign because of lawmakers failing to do their part to their constituents. Gerrymandering and lack of knowledge continues to elect these politicos back to Washington. Despite their commitment to helping their country by making progress, our politicos are really more interested in helping their friends, family and allies instead of you and me.

That link will give those in the junk food media and the conservative/White supremacist bubble a "told you so moment!" They will waste no time trying to tie every economic woe to the president.

The president released a budget bill that Republicans refuse support. The president's job bill died in 112th Congress. This wasn't moving the Republicans in the House and the Senate passed it only to have it watered down because of conservative Democrats phobias of a Republican insurgency.

The low approved Congress managed to stall the immediate cuts by the Federal Aviation Administration.

They realized that the cuts were hurting their travel by air. They quickly passed legislation and the president signed into law. The president grumbled about this and told the American people that if we're elected to do a job, why are we not working to get things done?

The point of the income inequality started when Whites left the urban areas for the suburbs. Why buy in the city when there's malls, hospitals and parks in the suburbs?

I've heard White friends say they avoid going to the city because of some perceived phobia they've watched on the local news or from experience of friends or family members living there.

The Urban Institute concluded that when it comes to wealth — as measured by assets, like cash savings, homes and retirement accounts, minus debts, like mortgages and credit card balances — white families have far outpaced black and Hispanic ones. Before the recession, non-Hispanic white families, on average, were about four times as wealthy as nonwhite families, according to the Urban Institute’s analysis of Federal Reserve data. By 2010, whites were about six times as wealthy.

The dollar value of that gap has grown, as well. By the most recent data, the average white family had about $632,000 in wealth, versus $98,000 for black families and $110,000 for Hispanic families.

“The racial wealth gap is deeply rooted in our society,” said Caroline Ratcliffe, one of the authors of the Urban Institute study. “It’s here, it’s not going away, and we need to care about it.”

Many experts consider the wealth gap to be more pernicious than the income gap, as it perpetuates from generation to generation and has a powerful effect on economic security and mobility. Young black people are much less likely than young white people to receive a large sum from their parents or other relatives to pay for college, start a business or make a down payment on a home, for instance. That, in turn, makes their wealth-building prospects shakier as they move into adulthood.

Two major factors helped to widen this wealth gap in recent years. The first is that the housing downturn hit black and Hispanic households harder than it hit white households, in aggregate. Many young Hispanic families, for instance, bought homes as the housing bubble was inflating and reaching its peak, leaving them saddled with heavy debt burdens as house prices plunged in places like suburban Phoenix and inland California.

Black families also were hit disproportionately by the housing collapse, because heading into the recession housing constituted a higher proportion of their wealth than for white families, leaving them more exposed when the market crashed. Higher unemployment rates and lower incomes among blacks left them less able to keep paying their mortgages and more likely to lose their homes, experts said.

Discriminatory lending practices were also a factor. “We know that communities of color, their rate of subprime or predatory loans was twice what it is in the overall population,” said Tom Shapiro, the director of the Institute on Assets and Social Policy at Brandeis University.

Black families also suffered bigger hits to their retirement savings, the Urban Institute found. On aggregate, the value of black families’ retirement accounts shrank 35 percent between 2007 and 2010, while white families’ accounts actually gained 9 percent over the same period. With lower earnings and higher unemployment rates leaving them with a thinner safety net to begin with, black families were more likely to take funds out of the market when it was depressed, leaving them out in the cold as the market recovered.

“That reservoir of what you can dig into for emergencies and contingencies is a lot shallower in communities of color,” Professor Shapiro said. “That pushes black families to sling off assets, like I.R.A.’s or stocks, that you might have had another goal in mind for.”

The Guy Who Throws Shit On The Wall tweets a picture with former Bill Clinton nemesis (alleged mistress) Paula Jones. They were spotted at the 2013 White House Correspondents Dinner.
Something similar may be happening as the housing recovery takes hold. “Some people talk about it in terms of a land grab,” said Professor Hamilton of the New School, as mainly white investors are buying foreclosed homes from disproportionately minority owners. “As the housing market starts to appreciate, some of those minority buyers might not be back.”

All in all, Hispanic families lost 44 percent of their wealth between 2007 and 2010, the Urban Institute estimates, and black families lost 31 percent. White families, by comparison, lost 11 percent of their wealth. The economic turbulence worsened a gap that has persisted for as long as social scientists have measured it, and has its roots in institutional racism, they said, which, for instance, prevented black Americans from benefiting fully from the G.I. Bill back in the 1940s and 1950s.

The Urban Institute study looked at mean wealth figures, where a small number of high-net-worth families skews the averages upward. Median wealth figures — where half of households have more wealth and half less — produces lower numbers, but the trends are the same, the Urban Institute researchers said.

Even if blacks and Hispanics make progress in the years ahead as the economy improves, the persistence of the wealth gap has pushed many public policy scholars to recommend the adoption of more ambitious programs to help reduce worsening inequality.

The Urban Institute suggests reforming government policies that encourage savings but disproportionately benefit the already wealthy and families with high incomes, like the home mortgage interest deduction. Automatic savings vehicles also might help lower-income and lower-wealth families start saving, it said.

Professor Hamilton has proposed “baby bonds,” granting savings accounts to infants, seeded with funds that allocate greater sums to families with less wealth. (Such accounts would be race-blind, Professor Hamilton emphasized.) Accountholders could tap that money as young adults, to pay for college or start a business.

“That’s really going to break the link of intergenerational poverty, and the intergenerational wealth gap,” Professor Hamilton argued.

But in the absence of such far-reaching measures, scholars and advocates remain generally pessimistic that the wealth gap will narrow even as members of minority groups increase their share of the American work force.

“The growth in the wealth divide is going to be very hard to close,” said Dedrick Muhammad, the senior director of the economic department at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the civil rights organization. “I don’t have a positive feeling about racial wealth inequality resolving itself with the recovery.”

Teen Carjacking Victim Stuffed In The Trunk!

Margaret E. Smith, 89, was allegedly tossed around in the trunk as the teens drove like a "roller coaster ride."
You do the right thing for others and yet they still take advantage of your goodwill!

An 89-year old Delaware woman is counting her blessings that she survived a horrible ordeal. She was giving two young teenage girls a ride to town. Didn't expect her kindness would end up nearly killing her.

In the junk food media, conservative agitators and the White supremacists are looking at any teenager of color being "natural born criminals" and "thugs by birth". They never expect it to happen to their kind!

Well you'll wait for a moment and then you hear about the next mass shooting in a suburban town.

The teenagers photos are released to the public. They're being charged as adults. These two young girls and their passengers, two 17-year old boys are going to be spending time in the "juvie school" before a trip to the "iron college".

Junia McDonald, 14 and Jackeline H. Perez, 15 asked the woman, now identified as 89-year old Margaret E. Smith for a ride down the road.

Ms. Smith was at a local restaurant and had thought that these young girls look needy.

She gave them a ride. Soon the ride turned into a carjacking. The girls grabbed the keys and wrestled Ms. Smith into the back of her trunk. For nearly two days, the young girls were riding around town with their new whip and the elderly woman in the trunk.
Two teen girls from Delaware carjacked an elderly lady and drove around for more than 24 hours with her locked in the trunk, police have said. Pictured here are 14-year-old girl as Junia McDonald and the 15-year-old girl as Jackeline H. Perez.
Junia McDonald and Jackeline H. Perez at age 14 and 15 will be likely seeing the iron bars instead of high school proms.
The New York Daily News reports that a lift from a Milford Chicken Man store to a home in Lincoln some four miles away on Tuesday morning.

But when they arrived at their destination, they are accused of forcing her to hand over the keys to her Buick, stealing $500 from her coat pocket and bundling her into the car’s trunk.

Driving off, they are said to have kept her locked in the confined space as they cruised around town — even picking up two 17-year-old boys along the way.

Ignoring her screams for help, Smith's frail body was thrown around in the trunk — as the teens drove like a "roller coaster ride."

They eventually dumped her at a cemetery close to Seaford, more than 20 miles from where she had picked them up, late on Wednesday afternoon.
The two 17-year-old boys picked up along the way were identified as Phillip L. Brewer and Rondaiges A. Harper.
Phillip L. Brewer and Rondaiges A. Harper are both 17 year old. They were accomplices to two young girls carjacking an elderly woman.
Smith, whose family had reported her missing at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

She had since been released.

The two girls were charged with robbery, carjacking, kidnapping and conspiracy and were detained on $122,000 cash bonds.

The two boys were charged with kidnapping, conspiracy and receiving stolen property and are being held on $27,000 secured bonds.

Another teen, who is still a juvenile and cannot be named, was charged with receiving stolen property and is on a $2,000 secured bond.

Jay-Z & Beyonce Celebrate Anniversary In Cuba!

Get the siren, Drudge: The Carters are in Havana.

Jay-Z appears on Roc-A-Fella Records/RocNation.
Beyonce appears on Columbia Records/Sony Music Group.

That guy who throws shit to the wall hoping it will stick, the turd flipper, King Hippo, and that guy who helped Obama win will be complaining about it soon.

Since Jay-Z and Beyonce are the biggest supporters of President Barack Obama, the conservative agitating and the remaining portions of the junk food media will complain about them being "communist" and "traitors".

Seeing they've celebrated five years of marriage, the couple goes to Cuba to celebrate with paparazzi in toe.

The couple had to wear bulletproof vest due to the security restrictions and the Cuba's customs on celebrity travels. The couple usually carries a high volume of security members.

But since when is it not allowed to travel to Cuba?

Didn't the president sign an executive order lifting travel restrictions to Cuba?

Anyway, two Florida Republican lawmakers want to have the U.S. State Department look into the matter!

Florida Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart have written a letter to Adam Szubin, director of the United States’ Office of Foreign Assets Control, seeking information on the type of licence the pair of stars received for their travel to Cuba. The Caribbean Journal reports the two representatives were totally pissed and are demanding an investigation into the matter.

The letter wrote by the two included here:

Dear Director Szubin:

We write to express concern and to request information regarding the highly publicized trip by U.S. musicians Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Beyoncé) and Shawn Carter (Jay-Z) to Cuba. We would like to respectfully request, within all applicable rules and guidelines, information regarding the type of license that Beyoncé and Jay-Z received, for what purpose, and who approved such travel.

As you know, U.S. law expressly prohibits the licensing of financial transactions for “tourist activities” in Cuba (Section 910(b)(1) of the Trade Sanctions Reform and Export Enhancement Act). If these individuals were given people-to-people licenses, we would like to bring to your attention the Cuba Travel Advisory issued by OFAC on July 25, 2011 which states, “OFAC only licenses People-to-People Groups that certify that all participants will have a full-time schedule of educational exchange activities that will result in meaningful interaction between the travelers and individuals in Cuba.” These restrictions are in place because the Cuban dictatorship is one of four U.S.-designated state sponsors of terrorism with one of the world’s most egregious human rights records. Cuba’s tourism industry is wholly state-controlled; therefore, U.S. dollars spent on Cuban tourism directly fund the machinery of oppression that brutally represses the Cuban people.

Despite the clear prohibition against tourism in Cuba, numerous press reports described the couple’s trip as tourism, and the Castro regime touted it as such in its propaganda. We represent a community of many who have been deeply and personally harmed by the Castro regime’s atrocities, including former political prisoners and the families of murdered innocents. The restrictions on tourism travel are common-sense measures meant to prevent U.S. dollars from supporting a murderous regime that opposes U.S. security interests at every turn and which ruthlessly suppresses the most basic liberties of speech, assembly, and belief. We support the Cuban people by refusing to sustain their jailers.

Thank you very much for your assistance in this important matter and look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Mario Diaz-Balart

Member of Congress Member of Congress

US citizens are permitted to travel to Cuba only under certain licences, such as people-to-people travel or educational endeavors.

“We would like to respectfully request, within all applicable rules and guidelines, information regarding the type of licence that Beyoncé and Jay-Z received, for what purpose, and who approved such travel,” the lawmakers wrote.
US Lawmakers Express “Concern” Over Jay-Z, Beyonce Cuba Trip
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Florida) and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Florida) are pissed that Jay-Z and Beyonce traveled to Cuba for their anniversary.
“If these individuals were given people-to-people licenses, we would like to bring to your attention the Cuba Travel Advisory issued by OFAC on July 25, 2011 which states, ‘OFAC only licenses People-to-People Groups that certify that all participants will have a full-time schedule of educational exchange activities that will result in meaningful interaction between the travelers and individuals in Cuba,’” they wrote.

Jay-Z and Beyonce in Havana, Cuba.
Both Members of Congress have been longtime critics of Cuba’s government.

The two said that, because Cuba’s tourism industry is “wholly state-owned,” “US dollars spent on Cuban tourism directly fund the machinery of oppression that brutally represses the Cuban people.”

In other words, we're pissed that two celebrities who openly endorsed President Barack Obama went to Cuba. So that makes the president a "communist", right?

Jay-Z and Beyonce, have fun. Ignore the haters!

I'm coming to the conclusion that conservatives are worthless and their fussing and screaming amounts to little or no action from the progressives. It's time to hit them where it hurts. We need to get more active in politics to stop the Republicans and their allies in the conservative movement. They're still stuck on Reagan and the 20th Century. If you're a progressive/liberal, you want progress to move forward.

There's no need to hide from the hate mongering of those who spent their lives trying to divide us! Loserville and the guy who sticks shit on the wall hoping it will stick have failed, and hopefully the Republicans see it! They need to cut the vein and move to the middle. Keep being conservative and all, but drop the racist, sexist, homophobic, Islamophobic, anti-choice, and condescending rhetoric and maybe you'll win elections!

The race card is burning a hole in the Republican Party's donors pockets.

In other non-story news, two more Democrats come out in favor of gay marriage. Indiana's Joe Donnelly and North Dakota's Heidi Heitkamp got the message. These two came from states that perennial loser Mitt Romney won! These two are slightly conservative. Unlike West Virginia's Joe Manchin who got his head up some dude's ass!

Democrats were warned by their rich liberal allies that if they don't support gay marriage, immigration reform and allow cuts to domestic programs, they'll suffer at the ballot box.

Texas Gun Ho!

Still bitter about losing the Republican nomination, Texas governor Rick Perry wants to take another shot (at being president). The state is on high alert after two Texas district attorneys were gunned down. Some are pointing fingers at a White extremist group.

The state of Texas is on a state of emergency with the latest shooting of a suburban Dallas district attorney and his wife being gunned down in their home. Apparently the FBI and Texas Rangers are singling the options of being the work of domestic terrorists. White supremacists or drug cartels from Mexico may have targeted the individual.

The second most populated state is probably the only state that has a strong presence of firearms.

Texas is by far one of the states that overwhelmingly goes to Republicans. That's the only state that carries a prize among Republicans electoral votes. The state's current governor Rick Perry, heads its reign.

The state of Texas has the most lapse gun laws in the nation. You're allowed to carry a firearm in the public place in some jurisdictions. Most Texas Republicans believe that President Barack Obama is a "Communist", "gun grabbing", NIGGER.

The state is the home of former presidents George H.W. and George W. Bush. The state's last Democratic victory went

Texas has a growing Hispanic population. About 38% of the state's population is either Latino or White (Hispanic).

What got the conservative/White supremacist bubble stirring is the fact that non-Whites are growing rapidly and Barack Obama won reelection. Nothing better than having the good ole days ruined by these interlopers.
Texas district attorney and his wife were killed by unknown assailant.
It's only fair to say that we here at Journal de la Reyna send our condolences to the victims and hope justice will be served to those involved.

The Associated Press reports that a Texas district attorney and his wife were found shot to death in their home, authorities have said little about their investigation or any potential suspects.

But suspicion in the slayings shifted to a white supremacist gang with a long history of violence and retribution that was also the focus of a December law enforcement bulletin warning that its members might try to attack police or prosecutors.

Four top leaders of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas were indicted in October for crimes ranging from murder to drug trafficking. Two months later, authorities issued the bulletin warning that the gang might try to retaliate against law enforcement for the investigation that led to the arrests of 34 of its members on federal charges.

Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife were found dead Saturday in their East Texas home. The killings were especially jarring because they happened just a couple of months after one of the county’s assistant district attorneys, Mark Hasse, was killed in a parking lot near his courthouse office.

McLelland was part of a multi-agency task force that took part in the investigation of the Aryan Brotherhood. The task force also included the FBI, the Drug Enforcement Administration as well as police departments in Houston and Fort Worth.

Investigators have declined to say if the group is the focus of their efforts, but the state Department of Public Safety bulletin warned that the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas is “involved in issuing orders to inflict ‘mass casualties or death’ to law enforcement officials involved in the recent case.”

Terry Pelz, a former Texas prison warden and expert on the Aryan Brotherhood said killing law enforcement representatives would be uncharacteristic of the group.

“They don’t go around killing officials,” he said. “They don’t draw heat upon themselves.”

But Pelz, who worked in the Texas prison system for 21 years, added that the gang has a history of threatening officials and of killing its own member or rivals. He suggested if the Aryan Brotherhood was behind the slayings in Kaufman County, some sort of disruption in the gang’s operations might have prompted their retaliation.

That disruption might have come last year, when federal prosecutors in Houston in November announced indictments against 34 alleged members of the gang, including four of its top leaders in Texas. At the time, prosecutors called the indictment “a devastating blow to the leadership” of the gang.

Meanwhile, deputies escorted some Kaufman County employees into the courthouse Monday after the slayings stirred fears that other public employees could be targeted. Law enforcement officers were seen patrolling outside the courthouse, one holding a semi-automatic weapon, while others walked around inside.

Deputies were called to the McLelland home by relatives and friends who had been unable to reach the pair, according to a search warrant affidavit.

When they arrived, investigators found the two had been shot multiple times. Cartridge casings were scattered near their bodies, the affidavit said.

Authorities have not discussed a motive.

“I don’t want to walk around in fear every day … but on the other hand, two months ago, we wouldn’t be having this conversation,” County Judge Bruce Wood, the county’s top administrator, said Monday at a news conference.

The killings also came less than two weeks after Colorado’s prison chief was shot to death at his front door, apparently by an ex-convict.

Law enforcement agencies throughout Texas were on high alert, and steps were being taken to better protect other DAs and their staffs.

In Harris County, which includes Houston, District Attorney Mike Anderson said he accepted the sheriff’s offer of 24-hour security for him and his family. Anderson said he also would take precautions at his office, the largest of its kind in Texas, with more than 270 prosecutors.

“I think district attorneys across Texas are still in a state of shock,” Anderson said Sunday.

McLelland, 63, was the 13th prosecutor killed in the U.S. since the National Association of District Attorneys began keeping count in the 1960s.

Kaufman County Sheriff David Byrnes would not give details Sunday of how the killings unfolded and said there was nothing to indicate for certain whether the DA’s slaying was connected to Hasse’s.

El Paso County, Colo., sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Joe Roybal said investigators had so far found no evidence connecting the Texas killings to the Colorado case, but added: “We’re examining all possibilities.”

Colorado’s corrections director, Tom Clements, was killed March 19 when he answered the doorbell at his home outside Colorado Springs. Evan Spencer Ebel, a white supremacist and former Colorado inmate suspected of shooting Clements, died in a shootout with Texas deputies two days later about 100 miles from Kaufman.
Group mentality is a dangerous thing within the White extremist movement.
In an Associated Press interview shortly after the Colorado slaying, McLelland himself raised the possibility that Hasse was gunned down by a white supremacist gang.

McLelland, elected in 2010, said his office had prosecuted several cases against such gangs, particularly one known as the Aryan Brotherhood. The groups have a strong presence around Kaufman County, a mostly rural area dotted with subdivisions, with a population of about 104,000.
No arrests have been made in Hasse’s Jan. 31 slaying. After that attack, McLelland said, he carried a gun everywhere around town, even when walking his dog. He figured assassins were more likely to try to attack him outside. He said he had warned all his employees to be constantly on the alert.

GOP Congressman Utters Racial Slur!

Another Republican caught in a firestorm over racial comments.

The Citizens for Responsible Ethics in Washington has been a thorn in Alaskan Republican Representative Don Young backside for years. CREW's chief Melanie Sloan has been trying to get this foolish politico out of the Capitol for years. This guy is under investigation for numerous earmarks. The lobbyists love this guy!

The king of pork and shady dealings is one again in the news for all the wrong reasons.

While the Republican National Committee is working on its image, their biggest problem lies within it's primarily white male voters. The reactionary bigotry inherited by White conservatives have totally turned off minority groups and women.

If this last election didn't prove to be a wake up call for Republicans, I don't know what else they've got!

Seriously, Republicans are condescending and totally ignorant. They continue to run on stupid.

Now Alaskan congressman Young uttered a racial slur that will piss off the Hispanic/Latino community.

He made a reference to his days living in California with his dad. He called the laborers, "wetbacks".

Now being from the cold northernmost state seriously got him delusional. How could a legislator say such things?

Every member of the Republican establishment condemned that comment and it took three official apologies from the congressman to realize the error of his ways.

Republicans are total idiots. And it always begins with this!

Marco Rubio: I Listen To Lil' Wayne Too! However, He's No 'Pac!

Florida senator Marco Rubio weighs in on hip-hop music.
Senator Marco Rubio is floated as a potential candidate for the Republican nomination for president. In order to appeal to Blacks and Hispanics, the Florida senator will talk like the Hip-Hop Republican.

Senator Marco Rubio (R-Florida) is a big fan of hip-hop music. He likes rappers Tupac Shakur, Lil' Wayne, Big Daddy Kane and Jay-Z.

Uncle Luke (Luther Campbell) and the 2 Live Crew, Rick Ross, Flo Rida, Pitbull, Trick Daddy, Trina, and numerous rappers built up the Miami rap scene.

Rubio grew up on hip-hop!

File:Lil Wayne in Concert.jpgAs a hip-hop fan, the senator weighs in on the potential run for president and a magazine's declaration of Lil' Wayne being "bigger than Tupac Shakur!"

Lil' Wayne, a veteran of hip-hop at age 30. Been with New Orleans based rap label Cash Money Records since he was 11 years old, the rapper managed to release his first album when he was 16.

Lil' Wayne is the most sought after rapper right now!  Lil' Wayne passed Elvis Presley as the male with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with 109 songs.

The Block Is Hot was the commercial debut of the rapper. He gain notoriety as the closing hook on former Cash Money rapper Juvenile's Back That Azz Up.

The rapper collaborated with legendary rappers such as Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, Wyclef Jean, Kanye West, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Busta Rhymes.

To make the point, Lil' Wayne is a dedicated rapper. The highly anticipated I Am Not A Human Being II will be released soon and many music writers have declared the rapper is bigger than Tupac Shakur.

The rapper once claimed that "he's the best rapper alive!"

Senator Rubio makes the point that "There is only one Tupac."

"It's a different time," said the senator. "These guys have some message in what they're saying, but I think they're largely entertainers. I think Tupac was more someone who was trying to inform us about what was going on, and he did it through entertainment. So it's just a different time. They're all good, though."

Now we seen this act all before!

Whenever there's "self-proclaimed" King of Rap, the title doesn't usually last long!

We seen the feud between Tupac and Biggie. We seen Jay-Z and Nas. We seen 50 Cent and Ja Rule.

Each of these feuds were legendary. They've made impact on the state of hip-hop.

Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G. and Will Smith are the only entertainers who have longstanding name recognition.

Lil' Wayne, 50 Cent, Kanye West, Rick Ross, Future, Drake, Gucci Mane, Nicki Minaj, and 2 Chainz are the most commercial rappers with the longest streak of collaborations. They have name recognition but nothing longstanding in my opinion.

TMZ catches up with the senator and asked him about Lil' Wayne being compared to Tupac Shakur.

Lil' Wayne appears under Cash Money Records.

Hugo Chávez Passes Away!

The world mourns Hugo Chavez.

The president of Venezuela has died. The often brash and colorful leader of the Republic of Venezuela passed away according to multiple sources. He was struggling with cancer.

It held off his successful reelection for his fourth term. Chavez stated that he was recovering from an operation to remove an abscessed tumor with cancerous cells. He required a second operation in December 2012. Chavez was to have been sworn in on January 10, 2013, but the National Assembly of Venezuela agreed to postpone the inauguration to allow him time to recuperate and return from a third medical treatment trip to Cuba.

It was reported by the Associated Press.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — President Hugo Chavez was a fighter. The former paratroop commander and fiery populist waged continual battle for his socialist ideals and outsmarted his rivals time and again, defeating a coup attempt, winning re-election three times and using his country's vast oil wealth to his political advantage.

A self-described "subversive," Chavez fashioned himself after the 19th Century independence leader Simon Bolivar and renamed his country the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

He called himself a "humble soldier" in a battle for socialism and against U.S. hegemony. He thrived on confrontation with Washington and his political opponents at home, and used those conflicts to rally his followers.

Almost the only adversary it seemed he couldn't beat was cancer. He died Tuesday in Caracas at 4:25 local time after his prolonged illness. He was 58.

During more than 14 years in office, his leftist politics and grandiose style polarized Venezuelans. The barrel-chested leader electrified crowds with his booming voice, and won admiration among the poor with government social programs and a folksy, nationalistic style.

His opponents seethed at the larger-than-life character who demonized them on television and ordered the expropriation of farms and businesses. Many in the middle class cringed at his bombast and complained about rising crime, soaring inflation and government economic controls.

Chavez used his country's vast oil wealth to launch social programs that included state-run food markets, new public housing, free health clinics and education programs. Poverty declined during Chavez's presidency amid a historic boom in oil earnings, but critics said he failed to use the windfall of hundreds of billions of dollars to develop the country's economy.

Inflation soared and the homicide rate rose to among the highest in the world

Before his struggle with cancer, he appeared on television almost daily, frequently speaking for hours and breaking into song or philosophical discourse. He often wore the bright red of his United Socialist Party of Venezuela, or the fatigues and red beret of his army days. He had donned the same uniform in 1992 while leading an ill-fated coup attempt that first landed him in jail and then launched his political career.

The rest of the world watched as the country with the world's biggest proven oil reserves took a turn to the left under its unconventional leader, who considered himself above all else a revolutionary.

"I'm still a subversive," the president told The Associated Press in a 2007 interview, recalling his days as a rebel soldier. "I think the entire world has to be subverted."

Chavez was a master communicator and savvy political strategist, and managed to turn his struggle against cancer into a rallying cry, until the illness finally defeated him.

From the start, he billed himself as the heir of Bolivar, who led much of South America to independence. He often spoke beneath a portrait of Bolivar and presented replicas of the liberator's sword to allies. He built a soaring mausoleum in Caracas to house the remains of "El Libertador."

Chavez also was inspired by his mentor Fidel Castro and took on the Cuban leader's role as Washington's chief antagonist in the Western Hemisphere after the ailing Castro turned over the presidency to his brother Raul in 2006. Like Castro, Chavez vilified U.S.-style capitalism while forming alliances throughout Latin America and with distant powers such as Russia, China and Iran.

Supporters eagerly raised Chavez to the pantheon of revolutionary legends ranging from Castro to Argentine-born rebel Ernesto "Che" Guevara. Chavez nurtured that cult of personality, and even as he stayed out of sight for long stretches fighting cancer, his out-sized image appeared on buildings and billboard throughout Venezuela. The airwaves boomed with his baritone mantra: "I am a nation." Supporters carried posters and wore masks of his eyes, chanting, "I am Chavez."

In the battles Chavez waged at home and abroad, he captivated his base by championing his country's poor.

"This is the path: the hard, long path, filled with doubts, filled with errors, filled with bitterness, but this is the path," Chavez told his backers in 2011. "The path is this: socialism."

On television, he would lambast his opponents as "oligarchs," scold his aides, tell jokes, reminisce about his childhood, lecture Venezuelans on socialism and make sudden announcements, such as expelling the U.S. ambassador or ordering tanks to Venezuela's border with Colombia.

Chavez carried his in-your-face style to the world stage as well. In a 2006 speech to the U.N. General Assembly, he called President George W. Bush the devil, saying the podium reeked of sulfur after the U.S. president's address.

At a summit in 2007, he repeatedly called Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar a fascist, prompting Spain's King Juan Carlos to snap, "Why don't you shut up?"

Critics saw Chavez as a typical Latin American caudillo, a strongman who ruled through force of personality and showed disdain for democratic rules. Chavez concentrated power in his hands with allies who dominated the congress and justices who controlled the Supreme Court.

"El Comandante," as he was known, insisted Venezuela remained a vibrant democracy and denied charges that he sought to restrict free speech. But some opponents faced criminal charges and were driven into exile. His government forced the opposition-aligned television channel, RCTV, off the air by refusing to renew its license.

While Chavez trumpeted plans for communes and an egalitarian society, his rhetoric regularly conflicted with reality. Despite government seizures of companies and farmland, the balance between Venezuela's public and private sectors changed little during his presidency.

Nonetheless, Chavez maintained a core of supporters who stayed loyal to their "comandante" until the end.

"Chavez masterfully exploits the disenchantment of people who feel excluded ... and he feeds on controversy whenever he can," Cristina Marcano and Alberto Barrera Tyszka wrote in their book "Hugo Chavez: The Definitive Biography of Venezuela's Controversial President."

Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias was born on July 28, 1954, in the rural town of Sabaneta in Venezuela's western plains. He was the son of a schoolteacher father and was the second of six brothers. His mother was also a schoolteacher who met her husband at age 16.
Conservatives hated Hugo Chavez as much as they hate President Barack Obama.
Hugo and his older brother Adan grew up with their grandmother, Rosa Ines, in a home with a dirt floor, mud walls and a roof made of palm fronds.

Chavez was a fine baseball player and hoped he might one day pitch in the U.S. major leagues. When he joined the military at age 17, he aimed to keep honing his baseball skills in the capital.

But between his army duties and drills, the young soldier immersed himself in the history of Bolivar and other Venezuelan heroes who had overthrown Spanish rule, and his political ideas began to take shape.

Chavez burst into public view in 1992 as a paratroop commander leading a military rebellion that brought tanks to the presidential palace. When the coup collapsed, Chavez was allowed to make a televised statement in which he declared that his movement had failed "for now." The speech, and those two defiant words, launched his career, searing his image into the memory of Venezuelans.

Two years later, he and other coup prisoners were released from prison, and President Rafael Caldera dropped the charges against them.

After organizing a new party, Chavez ran for president in 1998, pledging to clean up Venezuela's entrenched corruption and shatter its traditional two-party system. At age 44, he became the country's youngest president in four decades of democracy with 56 percent of the vote.

After he took office on Feb. 2, 1999, Chavez called for a new constitution, and an assembly filled with his allies drafted the document. Among various changes, it lengthened presidential terms from five years to six and changed the country's name to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

By 2000, his increasingly confrontational style and close ties to Cuba disenchanted many of the middle-class supporters who voted for him, and the next several years saw bold attempts by opponents to dislodge him from power.

In 2002, he survived a short-lived coup, which began after large anti-Chavez street protests ended in shootings and bloodshed. Dissident military officers detained the president and announced he had resigned.

But within two days, he returned to power with the help of military loyalists amid massive protests by his supporters.

Chavez emerged a stronger president.

He defeated an opposition-led strike that paralyzed the country's oil industry and fired thousands of state oil company employees.

The coup also turned Chavez more decidedly against the U.S. government, which had swiftly recognized the provisional leader who briefly replaced him. He created political and trade alliances that excluded the U.S., and he cozied up to Iran and Syria in large part, it seemed, due to their shared antagonism toward the U.S. government. Despite the souring relationship, Chavez kept selling the bulk of Venezuela's oil to the United States.

By 2005, Chavez was espousing a new, vaguely defined "21st-century socialism." Yet the agenda didn't involve a sudden overhaul to the country's economic order, and some businesspeople continued to prosper.

Those with lucrative ties to the government came to be known as the "Bolivarian bourgeoisie."

After easily winning re-election in 2006, Chavez began calling for a "multi-polar world" free of U.S. domination, part of an expanded international agenda. He boosted oil shipments to China, set up joint factories with Iran to produce tractors and cars, and sealed arms deals with Russia for assault rifles, helicopters and fighter jets. He focused on building alliances throughout Latin America and injected new energy into the region's left. Allies were elected in Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina and other countries.

Chavez also cemented relationships with island countries in the Caribbean by selling them oil on preferential terms while severing ties with Israel, supporting the Palestinian cause and backing Iran's right to a nuclear energy program.

All the while, Chavez emphasized that it was necessary to prepare for any potential conflict with the "empire," his term for the United States.

He told the AP in 2007 that he loved the movie "Gladiator."

"It's confronting the empire, and confronting evil. ... And you end up relating to that gladiator," Chavez said as he drove across Venezuela's southern plains.

He said he felt a deep connection to those plains where he grew up, and that when died he hoped to be buried in the savanna.

"A man from the plains, from these great open spaces ... tends to be a nomad, tends not to see barriers. What you see is the horizon," Chavez said.

Running a revolution ultimately left little time for a personal life. His second marriage, to journalist Marisabel Rodriguez, deteriorated in the early years of his presidency, and they divorced in 2004. In addition to their one daughter, Rosines, Chavez had three children from his first marriage, which ended before he ran for office. His daughters Maria and Rosa often appeared at his side at official events and during his trips. He had one son, Hugo Rafael Chavez.

After he was diagnosed with cancer in June 2011, he acknowledged that he had recklessly neglected his health. He had taken to staying up late and drinking as many as 40 cups of coffee a day. He regularly summoned his Cabinet ministers to the presidential palace late at night.

Even as he appeared with head shaved while undergoing chemotherapy, he never revealed the exact location of tumors that were removed from his pelvic region, or the exact type of cancer.

Chavez exerted himself for one final election campaign in 2012 after saying tests showed he was cancer-free, and defeated younger challenger Henrique Capriles. With another six-year term in hand, he promised to keep pressing for revolutionary changes.

But two months later, he went to Cuba for a fourth cancer-related surgery, blowing a kiss to his country as he boarded the plane.

After a 10-week absence, the government announced that Chavez had returned to Venezuela and was being treated at a military hospital in Caracas. He was never seen again in public.

In his final years, Chavez frequently said Venezuela was well on its way toward socialism, and at least in his mind, there was no turning back.

His political movement, however, was mostly a one-man phenomenon. Only three days before his final surgery, Chavez named Vice President Nicolas Maduro as his chosen successor.

Now, it will be up to Venezuelans to determine whether the Chavismo movement can survive, and how it will evolve, without the leader who inspired it.

Fist Full Of Dollars!

Racial stereotypes are common within the Black community. Many conservative White males think of Blacks as natural born criminals. Many in the conservative/white supremacist bubble think Black men want to grow up to be rappers, athletes, drug dealers, thugs and "gubmint gibbs mes". The believe Black men are the inductees of the iron college (prison), or the pop skip (dead beat parent).

Many in the conservative/white supremacist bubble think of Black women as ugly, fat, ghetto, ignorant, attitude rousing, baby making factories who worship the penis and not the employer.

Besides the stereotypes, racial slurs come down the pipe. Blacks are referred as monkeys, primates, Niggers, coons, bootlips, Obama's children, enslaved to the Democrat plantation or whatever else coming out of the conservative/white supremacist bubble.

Mediaite brings to attention a controversial cover. The Bloomberg Businessweek magazine cover shows a Black family in a house full of money. Meenal Vamburkar uncovers this one.

She writes that Bloomberg Businessweek became part of its own story today — through its controversial cover. It wasn't long before the magazine was accused of crossing the line with a “racist” portrayal of the issue.

Now I am all for freedom of speech. But so far, my thoughts of how the media portrays the Black family and President Barack Obama overstepped its boundaries.

Of course you know the outrage is pretty big right now!

For those in the conservative/white supremacist bubble, this is just PC (political correctness) outrage over nothing. It's just those lefties and civil right agitators making a mountain out of a mole hill.

The Raw Story also reports that the cover depicts people of color with a house full of cash. The “father” is barefoot and leering, depicted as an African-American, leaning out a window to clutch at a stream of dollar bills. The “mother” figure has brown skin and cartoonish, oversized lips. Upstairs we see a black boy and a Hispanic teenage girl, each grotesquely caricatured and shown reclining on big piles of money. All of the characters are grabbing for money while talking on cell phones or Bluetooth devices. Even the family cat, floating on a pillow in a sea of money downstairs, is depicted as black.

According to the Columbia Journalism Review, the image reinforces race-blaming right wing tropes about the mortgage crisis. “The narrative of the crash on the right has been the blame-minority-borrowers line , sometimes via dog whistle, often via bullhorn,” wrote CJR’s Ryan Chittum.

“In fact, though, the record is clear: minorities were disproportionately targeted by predatory lending, which has always gone hand in hand with subprime. Even when they qualified for prime loans that similar-circumstance whites got, they were pushed into higher-interest subprimes.”

Rinku Sen, president of the Applied Research Center, a nonprofit dedicated to “racial justice through media, research and activism,” called the artwork “egregious,” “straightforwardly racist” and “an extreme take on the ‘freeloader’ image.”

Sen said that while many will feel the temptation to call for symbolic firings and to demand some sort of disciplinary action toward whatever editorial personnel let this drawing by, the judgment error on the magazine’s part presents an opportunity to the public.

“It’s upsetting,” she said, “but it’s a really good opportunity to have a discussion with Bloomberg News about how they understand racial dynamics in the economy and how they make editorial choices that have racial implications.”

“What’s sad about this cover is that it’s obsessed with perpetuating racial stereotypes rather than telling the truth. Greed did bring down the housing market but it was the rapaciousness of Wall Street rather than communities of color,” said Imara Jones, the economic justice contributor at Colorlines.com.

”As financial institutions, such as Bank of America and Wells Fargo have admitted to the Justice Department in court settlements, their predatory lending practices of steering credit worthy blacks and Latinos into bogus financial products is what collapsed our economic system. According to Wall Street itself, racism is what destroyed the American dream for millions.”

Bloomberg apologized for the cover.

The magazine is a part of the vast media empire created by Michael Bloomberg, the mayor of New York City. He was a Republican until 2007. He left the party and became an independent. Bloomberg endorsed President Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential election.
