White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles announces she has "early stage" of breast cancer.
President Donald J. Trump announced on Monday, March 16.
The president shared the news in a post on the social platform Truth Social, where he said Wiles, the first female White House chief of staff, had "early-stage breast cancer" but would continue to serve in her role during treatment.
"(She) has decided to take on this challenge, IMMEDIATELY, as opposed to waiting. She has a fantastic medical team, and her prognosis is excellent," Trump's post said. "During the treatment period, she will be spending virtually full time at the White House."
Wiles, who sat next to Trump during a Kennedy Center board meeting on March 16, later confirmed Trump's comments, saying in a post on X that she was diagnosed last week. She mentioned that "nearly one in eight women in the United States" will face a similar breast cancer diagnosis, according to current data from the American Cancer Society.
"Every day, these women continue to raise their families, go to work, and serve their communities with strength and determination. I now join their ranks," Wiles said. "I am grateful to have an outstanding team of doctors who detected the cancer early and are guiding my care, and I am encouraged by a very good prognosis.
"I am also deeply thankful for the support and encouragement of President Trump as I undergo treatment and continue serving in my role as White House Chief of Staff," Wiles added.
Wiles is one of Trump's key confidants
Wiles is one of Trump’s closest aides, having worked on his campaigns since 2015. Previously, she worked as a scheduler for President Ronald Reagan's 1980 campaign under his chief of staff, James Baker, and under Vice President Dan Quayle during George H.W. Bush's administration. She has led several other campaigns, including Ron DeSantis's bid for the 2018 Florida gubernatorial election.
Wiles, whom Trump called "one of my closest and most important advisors" in his social media post, has made headlines since being appointed in the early days of his second administration.
She was part of the February 2025 prisoner exchange between Russia and the United States, in which Russian entrepreneur Alexander Vinnik and American schoolteacher Marc Fogel were traded. She was also installed on the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in March 2025 after Trump removed the sitting members and replaced them with loyalists.
A Vanity Fair spread that made a splash thanks to its unflinching photography thrust her back into the spotlight in December 2025, when she told journalist Chris Whipple that Trump "has an alcoholic’s personality," Vice President JD Vance had been "a conspiracy theorist for a decade," and that Attorney General Pam Bondi "completely whiffed" the initial release of the Epstein files.
Wiles later called the article "a disingenuously framed hit piece."
"President Trump has no greater or more loyal advisor than Susie," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at the time. "The entire Administration is grateful for her steady leadership and united fully behind her."
Wiles said she will continue her role while getting treatment.
The White House has a lot of personal issues going on.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is pregnant.
Second Lady of the United States, Usha Vance is pregnant.
President Donald J. Trump has visible bruises on his hands and a rash on his neck.
Things to do and so much shit to say. Well, his job approval is a 32%. The war in Iran is highly unfavorable. Over 60% of Americans disapprove of the war.
Gas prices are averaging at $3.57⁹ a gallon. Diesel has averaged $4.79⁹ a gallon.
Walmart has finally increased its prices. A gallon of milk is $2.79, bread $1.59 and eggs are $2.59.
Yeah, America is in the golden age.
See Wiles will get treatment from the federal government at a low expense. You and I will either skip a doctor or find out cancer in a terminal stage because we cannot afford a bill for treatment.
The daughter of Pat Summerall, Wiles is an American political consultant and lobbyist who has served as the 32nd White House chief of staff since January 2025
