It was a hoax. Snoop Dogg was promoting a smokeless fireplace.
Okay, it was shocking that Snoop Dogg announced he was no longer smoking weed anymore.
Calvin Broadus came into the rap game in 1992 when he was a featured guest on Dr. Dre's The Chronic album. When he released his debut album Doggystyle, it went three times platinum. It sealed his name in music history.
On Thursday night, Snoop shared a serious selfie on Instagram and asked for followers and fans to respect his privacy.
His strange behavior initially sparked worry among fans who were shocked he was cutting the habit.
But others have tried to encourage him through the change, and wish nothing but the best for his health.
One fan commented: "1 hour at a time big bro," as others shared their stories of sobriety.
The news may come as a shock to some - the rapper has long been open about his love of weed, and even claimed to have smoked in the White House. He has launched several business ventures related to marijuana, including a pot-focused media company called “Merry Jane,” and a line of cannabis products.
He has also invested in in Casa Verde Capital, a venture capital firm that invests in marijuana start-ups.
Snoop Dogg released 19 albums, five collaboration albums and 25 mixtapes.
Snoop Dogg is the owner of Doggystyle Records, Death Row Records and Mount Westmore.
Big Snoop announced he will release his 20th album on Death Row and Aftermath Entertainment. It will be the first Death Row return of Dr. Dre who co owned the label with Marion "Big Suge" Knight.
Snoop Dogg worked with numerous acts through hip-hop, R&B, pop, rock, country, reggae and gospel.
