A New Orleans woman was killed when she was decapitated by a luggage conveyor. Her long hair got stuck inside the machine and scalped her. The woman was working at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, Louisiana.
The Jefferson Parish investigators said Jermani Thompson, 26 was killed after she was injured on the apron, an area where the aircraft are parked, loaded, unloaded, refueled, boarded and maintained.
A spokesman for GAT Ground Support where she was employed confirmed that she was working to offload a plane that had landed. They say her hair got tangled in a belt loader.
The company said they are heartbroken that she lost her life to this tragedy and will offer support to her family.
Frontier airlines cancelled a flight after it was confirmed of an incident.
Kevin Dolliole, Director of Aviation for NOLA said, "We are deeply saddened about the tragic loss of GAT Airline Ground Support team member, Jermani Thompson. The Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport extends its sincere condolences to her family and friends, and also to our partners at GAT and Frontier Airlines. Jermani was a part of our airport family, and we will continue to support one another in any way we can during this trying time."
