The leftist professor who supported Bernie Sanders during his 2016 and 2020 presidential bids is leaving Harvard and is burning bridges on his way out.

The eccentric professor as CNN describes him accused the Harvard University of being a "spiritual rot" in his letter posted on social media.

"How said it is to see our beloved Harvard Divinity School in such decline and decay," he wrote in the letter. "The disarray of a scarreted curriculum, the disenchantment of talented yet deferential faculty, and the disorientation of precious students loom large."

His resignation comes after he said Harvard denied him an opportunity to receive tenure, the indefinite academic appointment that makes it extremely difficult to remove professors.

Could it be because of his television and radio appearances? Because folks see him talk and they see him a cranky Black man who is constantly belittling folks who refuse to embrace his "socialist" leanings.

Harvard and the Harvard Divinity School have no comment.

The resignation comes amid broader concerns about how academic institutions treat Black scholars. Earlier this year, the University of North Carolina offered a position without tenure to Nikole Hannah-Jones, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and professor. She declined the offer to North Carolina and took the opportunity to go to Howard University.

West is a controversial figure. He is an anti-Obama and anti-Biden agitator on the left. He graduated from Harvard and earned a PhD in philosophy from Princeton University, and he has taught at Harvard, Princeton, Yale College, and the Union Theological Seminary over the years. This would be the second departure from Harvard. The last time he got into a feud with Larry Summers, then president of Harvard and later Obama appointed official.
