Macon d's excellent article

Once again, Macon d's on to something. Something this society refuses to address now with this country increasinginly multiracial and multicultural and now that Barack Obama is president. I think we need to take some time to think about this country and how it was shaped and how past actions shaped the nation that it is today.

Gunman Opens Fire At the Holocaust Museum

This one was motivated by pure hatred and bigotry against Blacks and Jews. That guy has a long history of bigotry that law enforcement agencies were on the lookout for a long time.

I have to say that anti-Black and anti-Semitic hatred are still prevalent today.

My heart goes out to the family of the security guard, Stephen T. Johns, who was killed today. May he rests in peace.

As for this racist bigot, I hope he gets the maximum punishment available.

Christianist Group's Billboard Compares Atheism To Murder

A group calling themselves "Answers in Genesis" recently took out a billboard in Texas depicting a young boy holding a gun.

Here’s how Answers in Genesis describes themselves:

An apologetics (i.e., Christianity-defending) ministry,
dedicated to enabling Christians to defend their faith and to proclaim
the gospel of Jesus Christ effectively…we also desire to train others
to develop a biblical worldview, and seek to expose the bankruptcy of
evolutionary ideas, and its bedfellow, a “millions of years old” earth
(and even older universe).

[..]Personally, I can’t believe they are implying that
non-believers, or to whom God “doesn’t matter,” are going to take a gun
and shoot someone in the face.

Striking yes; thoughtful, absolutely not.

Although supposedly their beef is
with evolution, I don’t see how that point is conveyed with this
picture. So, according to them, believing what Darwin had to say means
a person is lawless and will go on a killing rampage?

'Dalai Lama of the rainforest' brings climate change warning to Britain - News from Survival International

Davi Kopenawa Yanomami, Brazil, 2002.'Dalai Lama of the rainforest' brings climate change warning to Britain - News from Survival International

\A Yanomami Indian shaman from the Brazilian Amazon, dubbed ‘the Dalai Lama of the Rainforest’, will journey to Europe in June to give a message to world leaders in advance of the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen in December.

Shaman Davi Kopenawa Yanomami will tell MPs at the British Houses of Parliament that the world’s rainforests cannot be bought, and can only be saved if indigenous peoples’ land rights are recognized.

Press conference: Wednesday 10 June, 10.30 am, Survival International, 6 Charterhouse Buildings, Goswell Road, London EC1M 7ET (For journalists only – please contact Survival if you wish to attend)
Photo opportunity: Wednesday 10 June, 3.00 pm, Westminster Green, Houses of Parliament
• Royal Commonwealth Society panel discussion on indigenous peoples, Thursday 11 June, 6.15 pm at the Commonwealth Club. Details on www.thercs.org

Davi says, ‘We must listen to the cry of the earth which is asking for help. The earth has no price. It can’t be bought, or sold or exchanged. It is very important that white people, black people and indigenous peoples fight together to save the life of the forest and the earth. If we don’t fight together what will our future be? Your children need land and nature alive and standing. We Indians want respect for our rights. You can learn with us and with our shamans. That is important not only for the Yanomami but for the future of the whole world.’
